Observing the Armies on the Battlefield of Kuruksetra

                                 TEXT 9

                        anye ca bahavah sura
                        mad-arthe tyakta-jivitah
                         nana-sastra-praharanah
                         sarve yuddha-visaradah

   WORD FOR WORD
   anye--others; ca--also; bahavah--in great numbers; surah--heroes;
   mat-arthe--for my sake; tyakta-jivitah--prepared to risk life;
   nana--many; sastra--weapons; praharanah--equipped with; sarve--all
of them; yuddha-visaradah--experienced in military science.

   TRANSLATION
There are many other heroes who are prepared to lay down their
lives for my sake. All of them are well equipped with different
kinds of weapons, and all are experienced in military science.

PURPORT by HDG Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada:
As far as the others are concerned--like Jayadratha, Krtavarma and
Salya--all are determined to lay down their lives for Duryodhana's
sake. In other words, it is already concluded that all of them
would die in the Battle of Kuruksetra for joining the party of the
sinful Duryodhana. Duryodhana was, of course, confident of his
victory on account of the above-mentioned combined strength of his
   friends.

Prabhupada Uvacha:
(here's some nectar, sometimes it comes in the form of Srutakirti prabhu's diary, other times from Govinda dasi's diary, or sometimes from a letter, but still nectar...)

Look! You Have Broken the Floor!

In Hawaii, one woman disciple went in to see Srila Prabhupada and brought her one-year-old daughter with her. The temple president introduced her, telling how they were trying to arrange that this woman could earn money for her needs without unduly straining the temple's finances.
The woman said that she heard there was a job picking guavas available on the island. Prabhupada said no, a woman with a child should not take such strenuous labor. When she said that as an alternative she could distribute his books, Prabhupada smiled and approved, "Yes, do that."
While this talk was going on, the woman's young child began to play with papers on Prabhupada's desk.
"No," said Prabhupada, shaking his finger at the child.
The woman picked up her child and placed her beside her, but the little girl crawled forward and started to touch Prabhupada's feet.
"No!" the mother called out, and she began to drag her child away, but Prabhupada said, "My papers she should not touch, but my feet, that is all right. You must learn how to instruct the child properly."
Knowing that her time in the darsana was soon up, the mother tried to introduce a philosophical question to get some spiritual benefit from the rare opportunity of talking to Srila Prabhupada. She asked, "How do you become free from fear?" Prabhupada replied by giving the example of Prahlada Maharaja. For him, Prabhupada said, he saw everything as coming from Krsna, whether it was good or bad, whereas for the demon, there was only fear.
Prabhupada then drank water and held the cup out to the small child. By now, however, the child was getting tired and cranky. She refused the water and threw herself on the ground, hitting her head in a temper tantrum. Before she actually began to cry, Prabhupada interrupted her and said, "Look!" pointing to the floor. "You have broken the floor!" The child immediately got up, stopped crying, and looked at the floor. Then Prabhupada gestured that they should leave.

" Stool Is Sublime - Materialists "
Caitanya Caritamrta Adi 1.14
Hyderabad, April 7, 1975

Listen to the entire lecture on-line:
http://prabhupadavani.org/Caitanya_Caritamrta/RamFiles/CC13.ram

Pradyumna: "I offer my obeisances unto the Supreme Lord Krsna, who is nondifferent from His features as a devotee, devotional incarnation, devotional manifestation, pure devotee, and devotional energy."

Prabhupada:

panca-tattvatmakam krsnam
bhakta-rupa-svarupakam
bhaktavataram bhaktakhyam
namami bhakta-saktikam
 [Cc. Adi 1.14]

So Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu, has five features. Krsna has five features. Krsna means these five features. What are those? Krsna, Krsna's manifestation, Krsna's incarnation, Krsna's different potencies, in this way. And Krsna, the source of devotional service, He is Krsna Caitanya, bhakta-saktikam. To advance in devotional service requires spiritual strength. It is not so easy thing. That spiritual strength is also Krsna, bhakta-saktikam. There is nothing except Krsna, ekam brahma dvitiya-nasti. So we have to understand Him especially in these five features for advancing in devotional service. Therefore His name is panca-tattvatmakam, with five features, krsnam, bhakta-rupa-svarupakam. Krsna is so kind upon us that... He is coming as He is. Krsna is original, and trying to convince us about the necessity of our life, or the goal of our life. Prayojana, prayojana: it is necessary. It is not optional -- compulsory. If you don't take to Krsna consciousness, then you will continue to suffer; therefore it is necessity. It is not that if you like, you can take it; if you don't like, you reject it. If you reject it, then you will suffer. And if you take it, then actually you will enjoy life.

So maya is very strong. Although it is necessary, maya is always dictating that it is not necessary. The real necessity is materialistic way of life, this is maya's dictation. Maya... We are now given a chance of maya's jurisdiction. So maya wants to punish us more and more, because we have forgotten Krsna. Great punishment.

krsna bhuliya jiva bhoga vancha kare
pasate maya tare japatiya dhare

Maya means to give sufficient punishment to the living entities who have forgotten Krsna and wants to enjoy material life independently. They are called conditioned soul. Bhutva bhutva praliyate [Bg. 8.19]. This conditioned life means we accept one type of body, we suffer sufficiently. It is simply suffering. There is no enjoyment. Where is enjoyment? To remain in the womb of the mother for ten months, is that enjoyment? Packed up in airtight bag? Just imagine, if you were put in airtight bag at the present moment, within three seconds you will die. You cannot live without air, even for three seconds. This is our position. And by maya's arrangement, we have to remain at least for ten months within the airtight bag, embryo, within the abdomen of our mother. So if we cannot live for even three seconds without air, how it was possible to remain in that airtight bag for ten months? That is also Krsna's mercy, to allow us to develop the body, so that coming out of the mother's womb we can live independently. To make us strong in the body. But the maya is so strong that even within that position, the mother is also killing the child. This is Kali-yuga...............continued

SRILA PRABHUPADA'S QUOTE OF THE DAY

Energy is always kept on the left side. Radharani
is on the left side of the Lord, and similarly,
Lakshmiji is also on the left side of the Lord. We
are also marginal energy, not exactly like
Radharani or Laksmiji, so we should keep ourself
always on the left side of the Lord, and let us act
as His Arms, or army.

Sri Radha-astami - The appearance day of Srimati Radharani:

That in Varsana we are under Srimati Radharani's shelter, here is Her janma-lila. He mentioned how Srila Prabhupada was very reserved whenever he talked about Radharani - She is so special, all happiness expands in Her, and Krsna expands Himself in Her, She is the source of all fortune and the original angel. Krsna does not tolerate any offenses against Her. . .
Saying this, let us remember the pastime about how Srimati Radharani appeared. She came just to serve Krsna. . . She wanted to make devotees for Him, just like Gadadhara Pandit (who is Her expansion), also came to make devotees for MahaPrabhu's.

When King Vrshabhanu offers his Beautiful, blind baby girl to Narada Muni for blessings, Narada Muni became overwhelmed in ecstasy, his hair stood on  end, tears were flowing  from his eyes, all his body was shivering. . .Narada Muni took that girl baby and put her on his lap. He started to think :'I have gone to all the places in the entire universe, no where I had found such a beautiful girl like this. NOWHERE!!
I am very fortunate.' Then he tells King Vrshabhanu that he is very very fortunate to have this baby girl as daughter. Wherever this girl is, this place resides the Goddess of Fortune. So your duty is just to take care of this baby and nothing else. Narada Muni prayed to Radharani with very pleasing prayers, having Her on his lap. He asked Her to give darshan of Her Youthful Kishori form. Radharani being very pleased appeared before him with all Her sakhis and told Narada Muni to meet Her in Kusum Sarovar. Accordingly Narada Muni got darshan of Srimati Radharani in Her Kishori Form which is very very pleasing, which attracts the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

The SKANDA PURANA states that out of many thousands of gopis, sixteen thousand are predominant; and out of 108 gopis, eight are still more prominent; out of eight gopis Radharani and Candravalli are prominent; and out of these two gopis, Radharani is the most prominent” (KB Chap. 31).  “Because Radha possesses all the charm and sweetness, She is the better of the two.  In the Sruti-sastra Radharani is known by the name Gandharva-devi.  Srimati Radharani considers Sri Krsna millions and millions of times more dear than Her own life’s breath”. (RKG)  When we compare the gopis, it appears that Srimati Radharani is most important because Her real feature expresses the highest ecstasy of love.  The mahabhava (ecstasy of love) experienced by the other gopis cannot be compared to that of Sri Radha.  Radharani is the very form of ecstatic love for Sri Krsna who says: “The happiness I feel when meeting Radharani is a hundred times greater than the happiness I get from meeting others”. (CC Adi 4.258) “Srimati Radharani is the beloved consort of Krsna, and She is the wealth of Krsna’s life.  Without Radharani surpasses all in beauty, good qualities, in good fortune, and, above all, in love”. (CC Adi 4.214)
Being the greatest devotee and the nest worshiper of Sri Krsna, Sri Radha possesses the most exemplary and exalted mentality. “Srimati Radharani said, ‘I do not mind My personal distress.  I only wish for the happiness of Krsna, for His happiness is the goal of My life.  However, if He feels great happiness in giving Me distress, that distress is the best of My happiness.’ Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur says that a devotee does not care about his own happiness or distress, he is simply interested in seeing that Krsna is happy, and for that purpose he engages in various activities.  A pure devotee has no way of sensing happiness except my seeing that Krsna is happy in every respect.  If Krsna becomes happy by giving him distress, such a devotee accepts that unhappiness as the greatest of all happiness”. (CC Antya 20.52v&p)

The Special Reason for Writing the SRIMAD-BHAGAVATAM

“Since so many Puranas already depict Krsna’s pastimes, it was not necessary to retell Lord Krsna’s pastimes in the SRIMAD-BHAGAVATAM.  What was the special reason for writing the SRIMAD-BHAGAVATAM?  The SRIMAD-BHAGAVATAM was written to introduce and describe the glories of the gopis; and especially to establish Srimati Radharani’s supremely elevated position as the most beloved of the Supreme Lord Krsna”. (SVMP)  According to Srila Visvanatha Cakravati Thakur, in the SRIMAD-BHAGAVATAM verse (10.83.42) the word “sriyah” refers to the supreme goddess of fortune, Srimati Radharani.”  “The transcendental goddess, Srimati Radharani is the direct counterpart of Lord Sri Krsna.  Radha is the central figure for all the goddesses of fortune.  Radharani possesses all attractiveness to attract the all-attractive Personality of Godhead.  Radharani is the internal potency of the Lord”. (BGT)

The Indescribable Beauty of Srimati Radharani

Srimati Radharani is fifteen years old and full of the luster of youth.  Radha is expert in all the sixty-four fine arts and Her transcendental form is like an ocean of nectar.  Radha’s splendid bodily luster is like molten gold or stationary lightning.  Radha wears wonderfully beautiful blue garments, and She is decorated with various pearls and flowers.  Gandharvika (Radha) is very beautiful, and has long, nicely braided hair.  Radha’s splendid forehead is decorated with the red pigment, sindura, and with beautiful locks of curling hair.  Decorated with blue bangles, Sri Radha’s arms have defeated Cupid’s staff with their beauty.  Decorated with black mascara, Radhika’s expanded lotus eyes are the most beautiful in all the three planetary systems.
Radhika’s nose if as beautiful as a sesame flower and the tip is nicely decorated with a pearl.  Anointed with carious perfumes, Sri Radha is splendidly beautiful.  Radha’s ears are decorated with wonderful earrings and Her nectarean lips defeat red lotus flowers.  Srimati Radharani’s teeth are a row of pearls and Her tongue is very beautiful.  Decorated with a smile of pure love for Krsna, Radha’s beautiful face is as splendid as millions of moons.  The beauty of Radhika’s chin has defeated and bewildered Cupid.  Decorated with a drop of musk, Radha’s chin appears like a golden lotus flower with a bumblebee.
Bearing all the marks of wonderful beauty, Radha’s neck, back and sides are enchantingly gorgeous.  Radhika’s breast is like splendid golden waterpots covered by a bodice decorated with a pearl necklace.  Srimati Radharani’s beautiful enchanting arms are two red lotus flowers illuminated by the series of moons that are Her fingernails.
Jeweled rings decorate Radha’s splendidly beautiful fingers.  Charming, full of sweet nectar, and decorated with a deep navel, Sri Radha’s beautiful waist enchants the three worlds.  Radhika’s sloping hips lead to Her charmingly beautiful slender waist which is bound by a creeper of three beautiful folds of skin and decorated with a sash of tinkling bells.
As beautiful as two exquisite plantain trees, Sri Radha’s thighs enchant the mind of Cupid.  Sri Radha’s beautiful knees are two reservoirs filled with the nectar of various transcendental pastimes.  Radha’s beautiful feet are decorated with jeweled ankle-bells, and Her toes with toe rings as beautiful as the treasure of Varuna. (RKG)

Sri Radha’s Gold and Flower Ornaments

Srimati Radharani wears twelve different ornaments on Her transcendental form.  These ornaments which include Radha’s crown, earrings, belt, ankle-bells, finger and toe rings, armlets, and jewel necklaces that look like strings of stars are all fashioned from pure gold; they appear like myriad shining suns.  Sri Radha wears a locket containing a picture of Sri Krsna and a signet ring that is engraved with "Radha".  Radha’s Syamantaka jewel is also known as Sankhacuda-siromani” (Sankhacuda’s crest jewel).  Srimati Radhika’s ankle-bells stun Sri Krsna with their tinkling sounds.
Besides jewels and gold, Radha wears a variety of flower crowns, necklaces, armlets, sashes, earrings, bracelets, anklets and blouses.  Radha taught Lalita-sakhi how to make these flower decorations, which Radharani prefers over the jeweled variety.  Srimati Radhika’s favorite crown is made from flowers and buds of five colours arranged in five points.  The gopis also artistically arrange flowers to create five different kinds of earrings; resembling objects like a peacock, lotus, shark or half-moon. (RKG)
“The glaringly effulgent tiara’s shimmering halo; beautifully sports in all directs stretching to the horizon.  Glistening, sleek armlets, bracelets and necklaces refract a collective, flickering of jewel-like coronas.  Hip-spanning belt of softly tinkling bells.  Anklets charming musical chimes embellishing the majesty of Her divine lotus feet.  Oh, my dear mind! Just worship the effulgence known as ‘Radha’”. (RRS)

Srimati Radharani’s Clothing

Wearing light-colored clothes during the full moon and dark colours in the moon’s absence, Sri Radha dresses to please Her beloved Krsna, and to facilitate Her nightly meetings with Her gallant lover, Sri Syamasundara.  Radha’s favourite outfit is a “Krsna-blue” sari and shawl matched with a pink blouse that delights Sri Krsna.
“Radharani’s upper garment is red like a ruby, and it is the favourite of Lord Hari.  Radha’s lower garment is the color of a blue cloud, and it is Her favourite.” (RKG),  “Sri Krsna said to Sri Radha, ‘All glories to Your wonderful ruby-red silk sari.  O Radha, this sari has doubled the passionate love I bear for You in My heart’”. (UN)

Glorification of Srimati Radharani’s Indescribable Beauty

Sri Krsna praised Srimati Radharani, ‘My dear Radha, Your curling locks of hair, long restless eyes, firm breasts, slender waist, shyly lowered head, creeper-like arms and jewel-like fingernails are all exquisitely beautiful.  The jubilant festival of Your beauty makes the three worlds tremble in transcendental bliss’”. (UN)
“The beauty of Srimati Radharani’s eyes forcible devours the beauty of the newly grown blue lotus flower, and the beauty of Radha’s face surpasses that of an entire forest of fully blossomed lotuses.  Radha’s bodily luster seems to place even gold in a painful situation.  Thus the wonderful unprecedented beauty of Srimati Radharani is awakening in Vrndavana”. (Vidagdha-madhava)
“Entwining this way and that with decorations of fresh forest flowers, and bound and tied up with jewel-threads; Adorned with jasmine garlands of exotic fragrance and hanging down very best of noble gemstones; Your hair style arranged by the hand of Hari, will I ever see it, Oh Radhe?
“Teeth like rows of pearls and lovely lips like bimba berries; Thin waist, wide hips and a deep navel like a whirlpool of newer youth; This indescribable lover – the very heart of the cleverest maidens – May Radha protect us!
“Oh moon-faced one! O doe-eyed one! O Goddess! Oh lovely-nosed one! O one with reddish lips! O sweet smiler! O Supreme Laksmi! O creeper-armed one! O lustrous one of conch shell-smooth neck! O one with plantain tree shaped thighs! Oh whose collection of lotus toenails brightly illuminates all directions! When, Oh Radhe, will You be worshipped by me?” (RRS)

(CS)
“Srimati Radharani always keeps Her hand on the shoulders of Her friends and Radha always talks and thinks of the pastimes of Krsna.  Radharani forever offers Krsna a kind of intoxication by Her sweet talks.  Sri radha supplies all the demands of Sri Krsna, and Radharani possesses unique and uncommon qualities meant for Krsna’s satisfaction.  Srimati Radhika is able to fulfill all the desires of Krsna.  No one else can do so.  Radha is so expert in all affairs that the damsels of Vraja come to learn the arts from her”. (TLC Chap.31)

Today is Rädhäñöamé. So pray to Rädhäräëé

Sri Sri Radha Madhava in Mayapur

Prabhupada: So our request is... Everyone who is present here... Today is Rädhäñöamé. So pray to Rädhäräëé. And She is hare, harä. This hare, this word, is Rädhäräëé. Harä, Rädhäräëé. Rädhä or harä  the same thing. So Hare Kåñëa. So we are praying to Rädhäräëé, “My Mother, Rädhäräëé, and Kåñëa.” Hare Kåñëa. “O Kåñëa, O the Lord.” Hare Kåñëa Hare Kåñëa, the same thing, repetition. “O Rädhäräëé, O Kåñëa.” “O Rädhä-Kåñëa.” “Rädhe-Kåñëa” or “Hare Kåñëa,” the same thing. Hare Kåñëa Hare Kåñëa Kåñëa Kåñëa Hare Hare. Again addressing, “O Kåñëa, O Kåñëa, O Rädhäräëé.” Hare Räma. The same thing, again. Hare Räma. Räma is also Kåñëa. Räma is Räma, Räma is Balaräma. They are all Kåñëa. Hare Räma Hare Räma Räma Räma Hare Hare. So this repetition of addressing Rädhä and Kåñëa or Hare Kåñëa is to pray, “My dear Lord, the, and the energy, the spiritual energy of the Lord, kindly engage me in Your service.” That’s all. “I am now embarrassed with this material service. Please engage me in Your service.”
This is good sense. We are servants here. We are engaged in so many services. But it is not giving us comfort. Na trapä nopaçänti. The service which we are rendering to others, they are not satisfied, I am not satisfied. This is material service. But if you give service to Kåñëa... Svalpam apy asya dharmasya träyate mahato bhayät. A little service can save you from the greatest danger. This is the formula.
Just like Ajämila. Ajämila, in his boyhood, he was brähmaëa. He was giving service to Viñëu. But in young age he became a victim of a prostitute, and he fell down. But at the end, ante näräyaëa-småtiù, when Yamadüta was coming and were so fearful, he did not know whom to take shelter, but he was attached to his youngest son, whose name was Näräyaëa. So he thought, “This Näräyaëa would give me protection.” So he asked him, “Näräyaëa!” But at the same time he remembered that “That Näräyaëa, oh, hm, I sometimes gave service.” So immediately Näräyaëa saved him. Svalpam apy asya dharmasya träyate mahato bhayät.
So it is our duty therefore... That is the duty of human life, to become Kåñëa conscious. And that is stated here. Véta-räga-bhaya-krodhä man-mayä mäm upäçritäù, bahavaù. It is not that one or two. Many. Jïäna-tapasä. Jïäna. That is required, knowledge and tapasya. That is human life. If, if we remain just like cats and dogs, eat, sleep and have sex life, beget children and die someday, this is cats’ and dogs’ life. This is not human life. Human life is different. Man-mayä mäm upäçritäù. Jïäna-tapasä pütä. To become purified by knowledge and tapasya. Tapo divyaà yena çuddhyet sattvam. That is the statement of Åñabhadeva. Everywhere. We have to purify our existence, and get out of this repetition of birth and death. That is success of life.
So we shall pray to Rädhäräëé... What is Rädhäräëé? Rädhäräëé is the pleasure potency of Kåñëa. Pleasure potency. Paräsya çaktir vividhaiva çrüyate. The Supreme Lord has many potencies. Na tasya käryam karaëaà ca vidyate. Therefore He has nothing to do. He has got so many potencies. Just like big man, a rich man. He’s sitting. But his energies, his potencies, are working. Big, big factory. And he knows everything. Similarly, paräsya çaktir vividhaiva çrüyate. He has got many multi-potencies. One of them is this pleasure potency. Pleasure potency...

He also wants pleasure. So when Kåñëa wants... Kåñëa is Paraà Brahman. He cannot enjoy anything material. He has to create the source of enjoyment by His own spiritual potency. That is Rädhäräëé.
So Rädhäräëé is described in the çästra: rädhä-kåñëa-praëaya-vikåtir hlädiné-çaktir asmäd. That is Kåñëa’s hlädiné-çakti. She gives pleasure to Kåñëa. So She is very kind. And today is Rädhäñöamé. If we pray to Çrématé Rädhäräëé... Therefore in Våndävana you’ll see. They are first of all glorifying, “Jaya Rädhe!” Everywhere you’ll hear. “Jaya Rädhe.”

Guest: Jaya Rädhe.

Prabhupäda: To glorify Çrématé Rädhäräëé. So if Rädhäräëé’s pleased, he’ll be able to approach Kåñëa very easily. And that is the goal of our life. That is the goal of life. Véta-räga-bhaya-krodhä man-mayä mäm upäçritäù. Mäm upäçritäù means you have to take... You cannot take shelter of Kåñëa directly. You have to take shelter of His potency.
Kåñëa is therefore trying to help us. Guru-kåñëa-kåpäya päya bhakti-latä-béja. He is within. He is called caitya-guru. If you are purified... Kåñëa... Buddhi-yogaà dadämi tam. He’ll directly speak you. And so long you cannot, then He sends His representative, the spiritual master, the guru. You can ask through the spiritual master about Kåñëa. Yasya prasädäd bhagavat-prasädaù.
So in this way we have to be absorbed in the thought of Kåñëa. We have to take shelter of Kåñëa. Then... If you take shelter of Kåñëa, this jïäna...

väsudeve bhagavati
bhakti-yogaù prayojitaù
janayaty äçu vairägyaà
jïänaà ca yad ahaitukam

The same thing. Kåñëa will speak. Kåñëa is within you. Simply you have to take shelter of Kåñëa, always thinking of Kåñëa, chant Hare Kåñëa Hare Kåñëa Kåñëa Kåñëa Hare Hare, Hare Räma Hare Räma...
Guests: Hare Räma Räma Räma Hare Hare.
Prabhupäda: Thank you very much. That’s all. (end)(A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. 23rd September 1974. BG 4:10. class. Srimati Radharani's Appearance day lecture excerpt. Calcutta.)

"Now today is our Rädhäñöami ceremony. I must speak now something about Rädhäräëé, and then I shall go up, reach my apartment at twelve. In the meantime, you can observe the ceremonies. So, so far Rädhäräëé, Rädhäräëé, today is the birthday of Çrématé Rädhäräëé. Rädhäräëé is the pleasure potency of Kåñëa. Kåñëa is the Supreme Brahman. Just try to understand. Kåñëa is the Supreme Brahman. Paraà brahma paraà dhäma pavitraà paramaà bhavän. So when paraà brahma wants to enjoy... That enjoying spirit is there in the paraà brahma. Otherwise we cannot have this enjoying spirit. Because we are part and parcel, therefore we have got that enjoying spirit; but that is materially contaminated. But the fact is there, because Kåñëa, He is enjoying, this enjoying spirit we have got also, but I do not know how to enjoy. We are trying to enjoy in the matter, in the dull matter. That is spiritual. So brahman, brahman sukhänubhütyä. People are trying to feel what is brahma-sukha, pleasure of brahmänubhäva. That is not material pleasure. So many yogis, they have given up their family life, their kingdom, and meditating to achieve that Brahman pleasure. Actually, the idea is Brahman pleasure. So many brahmacärés, so many sannyäsés, they are trying to achieve that Brahman pleasure, and in order to achieve that Brahman pleasure they are neglecting, they are kicking off all this material pleasure. Do you think that Brahman pleasure is ordinary, this material pleasure? To achieve a portion of Brahman pleasure, if they are kicking off all this material pleasure... Don’t talk of ourselves. We are ordinary men. In the history we have got instances, that of Bharata Mahäräja. Bharata Mahäräja, under whose name this planet is called Bhäratavarña. That Bharata Mahäräja was the emperor of the whole world. And as emperor he had his beautiful wife, young children. But at the age of twenty-four years, just young man, he gave up everything. All right. This is very old story, of course, but you know Lord Buddha. He was also a prince. He was also prince, not ordinary man, and he was kñatriya, and he was always enjoying with beautiful women. That is the palace pleasure accustomed in every, in Oriental countries, that in the palace there are many beautiful girls, they’re always dancing and giving pleasure to the kings and the prince. So Lord Buddha was also in such pleasure, but he gave up everything and began to meditate.
There are many hundreds of instances in Indian history that to realize the Brahman pleasure they gave up everything. They gave up everything. That is the way. Tapasya means voluntarily accepting something severe for realizing the supreme pleasure. That is called tapasya. So if, for tasting a little Brahman pleasure, all materialistic pleasures are to be given up, do you think that the Supreme Brahman, Lord Kåñëa, is enjoying this material pleasure? Is it very reasonable? This Kåñëa, He’s enjoying lakñmé-sahasra-çata-sambhrama-sevyamänam. Hundreds and thousands of goddess of fortune are engaged in His service. Do you think these lakñmés are material women? How Kåñëa can take pleasure in the material women? No. This is mistake. Änanda-cinmaya-rasa-pratibhävitäbhis täbhir ya eva nija-rüpatayä kaläbhiù. In the Brahma-saàhitä you’ll find that He expands His änanda-cinmaya-rasa, the mellow of transcendental pleasure potency. And these gopés are expansion of His pleasure potency. And Rädhäräëé is the center. Rädhäräëé is the center. So Rädhäräëé is not... Don’t take that Rädhäräëé is an ordinary woman like we have our wife or sister or mother. No. She is the pleasure potency. And the birth of Rädhäräëé was not from the womb of any human being. She was found by her father in the field. While father was plowing, he saw one little nice child is lying there, and he had no children, so he caught it and presented to the queen, “Oh, here we have got a very nice child.” “How you got?” “Oh, in the field.” Just see. Rädhäräëé’s janma is like that. So this janma is today and Rädhä, this name is sometimes not found in Bhägavata. So the atheistic class of men protest this Rädhäräëé’s name is not in the Çrémad-Bhägavatam. How this name came, Rädhäräëé? But they do not know how to see it. There is anayärädhyate. There are many gopés, but there is mention that by this particular gopé He is served more pleasingly. Kåñëa accepts this gopé’s service more gladly. Anayärädhyate. Ärädhyate. This ärädhate, this word, ärädhyate means worshiping. From this word ärädhyate, Rädhä has come. But Rädhä’s name are there in other Puräëas. So this is the origin.
So Rädhä, so Rädhä and Kåñëa. Kåñëa is the enjoyer and He wants to enjoy. So He’s the Supreme Brahman. He cannot enjoy anything, ätmaräma, He can enjoy it in Himself. Therefore Rädhäräëé is the expansion of His pleasure potency. Kåñëa hasn’t got to seek external things for His pleasure. No. He is in Himself full, ätmaräma. So Rädhäräëé is expansion of Kåñëa. Kåñëa is the energetic, and Rädhäräëé is the energy. Just like energy and energetic, you cannot separate. Fire and the heat you cannot separate. Wherever there is fire there is heat, and wherever there is heat there is fire. Similarly, wherever there is Kåñëa there is Rädhä. And wherever there is Rädhä there is Kåñëa. They are inseparable. But He is enjoying. So Svarüpa Dämodara Gosvämé has described this intricate philosophy of Rädhä and Kåñëa in one verse, very nice verse. Rädhä kåñëa-praëaya-vikåtir hlädiné-çaktir asmäd ekätmänäv api bhuvi purä deha-bhedaà gatau tau. So Rädhä and Kåñëa is the one Supreme, but in order to enjoy, They have divided into two. Again Lord Caitanya joined the two into one. Caitanyäkhyaà prakaöam adhunä. That one means Kåñëa in the ecstasy of Rädhä. Sometimes Kåñëa is in ecstasy of Rädhä. Sometimes Rädhä is in ecstasy of Kåñëa. This is going on. But the whole thing is Rädhä and Kåñëa means the one, the Supreme.
So Rädhä-Kåñëa philosophy is a very great philosophy. It is to be understood in the liberated stage. Rädhä-Kåñëa philosophy is not to be understood in the conditioned stage. But when we worship Rädhä-Kåñëa in our conditional stage, actually we worship Lakñmé-Näräyaëa. You have seen that picture, this viddhi-märga and räga-märga. Rädhä-Kåñëa worship is on the platform of pure love, and Lakñmé-Näräyaëa worship is on the regulative principles. So long we do not develop our pure love, we have to worship on the regulative principles. One has to become a brahmacäré, one has to become a sannyäsé, one has to perform the worship in this way, in the morning he has to rise, he has to offer. So many rules and regulations. There are at least sixty-four rules and regulations. So we shall introduce them gradually as you develop. So in the viddhi-märga, when you have no love for God or Kåñëa, we have to follow the regulative principles and automatically..., there is practice. When practicing. Just like you practice this mådaìga playing. In the beginning it is not in order, but when you become well versed in the practice, the sound will come so nice. Similarly, when we are engaged by regulative principles in the worship of Rädhä-Kåñëa, that is called viddhi-märga. And actually when you are on the love platform, then that is called räga-märga. So without viddhi-märga, if anyone wants to learn the räga-märga immediately, that is foolishness. That is foolishness. Nobody can pass M.A. examination without going through the regulative principles of primary schools and colleges. So therefore I do not, I mean to say, indulge in the discussions of Rädhä and Kåñëa so easily. Rather go on with the regulative principle at the present moment. Gradually, as you become purified, as you become on the transcendental platform, you’ll understand what is Rädhä-Kåñëa. Don’t try to understand Rädhä-Kåñëa very quickly. It is a very big subject. If we want to understand Rädhä-Kåñëa very quickly, then there will be so many präkåta-sahajiyäs. In India there are präkåta-sahajiyä. Just like Rädhä-Kåñëa dancing. Rädhä-Kåñëa has become a plaything. The painting Rädhä-Kåñëa, Kåñëa is kissing Rädhä, Rädhä is kissing. These are all nonsense. Rädhä-Kåñëa philosophy has to be understood by the liberated person, not by the conditioned soul. So we shall await for the fortunate moment when we are liberated, then we shall understand rädhä-kåñëa-praëaya-vikåtir. Because Kåñëa and Rädhä, They are not on the material field. Try to understand. This is Jéva Gosvämé’s analysis, that Kåñëa is the Supreme Brahman. The Supreme Brahman cannot accept anything material. So Rädhä is not in the material field.
Now there is a very nice song. I shall sing if you can play on the harmonium. Yes. This is a Rüpa Gosvämé’s song. (sings)
rädhe jaya jaya mädhava-dayite
gokula-taruëé-maëòala-mahite

dämodara-rati-vardhana-veçe
hari-niñkuta-våndä-vipineçe

våñabhänudadhi-nava-çaçi-lekhe
lalitä-sakhé guëa-ramita-viçäkhe

karuëäà kuru mayi karuëä-bharite
sanaka-sanätana-varëita-carite
rädhe jaya jaya mädhava-dayite

This song was sung by Rüpa Gosvämé. He is the real person, actual person, to understand Rädhä and Kåñëa. So he says, “All glories to Rädhäräëé.” Rädhe jaya jaya mädhava-dayite. “She’s so dear to Kåñëa.” Kåñëa, everyone is trying to love Kåñëa, but Kåñëa is trying to love somebody. Now how great She is. Just try to understand. Everyone, the whole world, the whole universe, all living entities, they are trying to love Kåñëa. Kåñëa-prema. Lord Caitanya describes, prema-pumärtho mahän. And Rüpa Gosvämé described that “You are distributing kåñëa-prema.” So kåñëa-prema is so valuable, but Kåñëa is after Rädhäräëé. Just see how Rädhäräëé is great. Just try to understand the greatness of Rädhäräëé. Therefore She is so great, and we have to offer our respect. Rädhe jaya jaya madhava-dayite. How She is? Gokula-taruëé-maëòala-mahite. Taruëé, taruëé means young girls. You’ll see the pictures, they are all young girls. But of all the young girls, She is the most beautiful. She is enchanting to the young girls also. She is so beautiful. Gokula-taruëé-maëòala-mahite. Dämodara-rati-vardhana-veçe. And She always dresses Her so nicely that Dämodara, Kåñëa, becomes attracted by Her beauty. Hari-niñkuta-våndä-vipineçe. And She is the only lovable object of Kåñëa, and She is the queen of Våndävana. This queen of Våndävana... You’ll find in Våndävana, if you go to Våndävana, everyone is worshiping Rädhäräëé. Räëé means queen. They are always speaking, “Jaya Rädhe!” Rädhäräëé. All the devotees in Våndävana, they are worshiper of Rädhäräëé. Hari-niñkuta-våndä-vipineçe. Våñabhänudadhi-nava-çaçi-lekhe. And She appeared as the daughter of King Våñabhänu, and Her companion, Lalitä-sakhé and Viçäkha-sakhé, and the devotees... So on behalf of the pure devotees of Kåñëa, Rüpa Gosvämé is praying, karuëäà kuru mayi karuëä-bharite. “Oh, my worshipable Rädhäräëé, You are full of mercy. So I am begging of Your mercy because You are so merciful, very easily You offer, bestow Your mercy. So I am begging Your mercy.” Karuëäà kuru mayi karuëä-bharite, sanaka-sanätana-varëita-carite. Now somebody may say, “Oh, you are so great, learned scholar, you are so great saintly person, and you are begging mercy from an ordinary girl? How is that?” Therefore Rüpa Gosvämé says, “Oh, this is not ordinary girl.” Sanaka-sanätana-varëita-carite. “This girl’s description is possible to be made by great saintly persons like Sanaka-Sanätana. She is not ordinary.”
So the lesson is that we should not treat Rädhäräëé as ordinary girl, or Kåñëa as ordinary man. They are the Supreme Absolute Truth. But in the Absolute Truth, there is the pleasure potency, and that is exhibited in the dealings of Rädhä and Kåñëa. And Rädhä’s expansion all the gopés, and Kåñëa is the Supreme Lord.
Thank you very much. Chant Hare Kåñëa. You can chant? Can you chant? Janärdana? All right, you can chant. What is that? No, I have explained that one çloka from this Räma-carita-manasa. Chant Hare Kåñëa. (end) (A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. 30th August 1968. Srimati Radharani's Appearance Day. Montreal.)

Yo brahma rudra shuka narada bhishma mukhyair

(Radha Rasa Sudhanidhi 4)

"I constantly remember Shrimati Radharani`s foot dust which is a fragrant transcendental powder possessed of unlimited potency, able to immediately subdue the Supreme being, Shri Krishna Who is not so easily seen even by great devotee-leaders like Brahma, Shiva, Shukadeva, Narada and Bhishma."

gaurange mradima smite madhurima netrancale draghima
vakshoje garima tathaiva tanima madhye gatau mandima

"O Sri Radhe! May the softness of Your transcendental golden body, the sweetness of Your smile, the wideness of Your eyes, the abundance of your bosom, the slimness of Your waist, the lightness of your gait, the wideness of Your hips, the crookedness of Your eyebrows, the redness of Your cherry-lips and the numbness of Your heart saturated with aesthetic loving sentiments, be present in my meditation."

verse 75 of Sri Radharasa Sudhanidhi

Vraja chandrendriya grama vishrama vidhushalika
Krishna sarvendriyonmadi radhety akshara yugmaka
(Srila Raghunatha Dasa Goswami’s 108 names of Sri Radhikha 45)

"Although Krishna is the pleasure giving like cooling moon for all the inhabitants of Vraja, still Srimati Radharani is the resting place for all of His senses which She completely maddens with the two syllables of Her name Radha.”

Yaj japah sakrideva gokulapater akarshakas tat kshanad
Yatra premavatam samasta purushartheshu sphuret tucchata
Yan namankita mantra japana parah pritya svayam madhavah
Shri krishno’pi tad adbhutam sphuratu me radheti varna-dvayam.
(Sri Radha Rasa Sudhanidhi 95)

"May the two strikingly wonderful syllables "Ra-dha”, that immediately attracts the Lord of Gokula (Krishna) when they are pronounced even once, that reveals the insignificance of all human pursuits (other than bhakti sadhana and prema) when there is love for Them, that are included in the mantra-formula repeated with great love by Lord Madhava (Vishnu) and even by Sri Krishna himself, appear in my heart !”

Kalindi tata kunja mandira gato yogindravad yat pada
Jyotir dhyana parah sada japati yam premashru purno harih
Kenapy adbhutam ullasad rati rasanandena sammohitah
Sa radheti sada hridi sphuratu me vidya para dvy akshara
(Radha Rasa Sudhanidhi 96)

"May the surprisingly fine, bliss giving, spiritually tastfull, endowed with the flavour of absolute transcendental shringara-love, wish fulfilling and charming two syllables of Radha’s name, which represent the highest supreme cognition and are muttered by Sri Hari (Krishna) who like a great yogi sits in a bower’s temple on the bank of the Yamuna, meditating on the effulgence of Shri Radha’s lotusfeet with streaming tears of love, be always revealed in my heart !

Devanam atha bhakta mukta suhridam atyanta duram ca yat

(Radha Rasa Sudhanidhi 97)

"The divine ambrosial transcendental name of Sri Radha, that remains difficult to utter by the demigods, the devotees in general, the liberated souls and Krishna’s friends, is even repeated and described with love by Hari (Krishna). He listens this name of Radha being sung to him by the sakhis and also chants it congegationally with them in ecstasy. This name of Radha that consists of the greatest spiritual love, gusto and bliss, is my very life.”

Radha namaiva karyam hy anudinam militam sadhanadhisa kotis
Tyajya nirajya radha padakamala sudham sampumarthagra kotih
Radha padabja lila bhuvi jayati sada’manda mandara kotih
Sri radha kinkarinam luthati caranayor adbhuta siddhi kotih.
(Radha Rasa Sudhanidhi 144)

"If one can simply get into the habit of daily chanting only the holy name of Radha, millions of best spiritual practises (exept the different limbs of bhakti sadhana) will be naturally depreciated and given up. Millions of greatest human goals of life just worship the transcendental nectar of Sri Radha ‘s lotusfeet, and are thus of no interest for those worshipping Them. There are Millions of wishyielding trees in Sri Radha’s playground (Vraja) which is always decorated by Her foot marks, and millions of wonderfull mystic perfections roll at the feet of Sri Radha’s manjaris, but are simply uncared for by them.”

Anulikhyanantan api sad aparadhan madhupatir
Maha premavistas tava parama deyam vimrisyati
Tavaikam sri radhe grinata iha namamrita rasam
Mahimnah kah simam sprisatu tava dasyaika manasam
(Radha Rasa Sudhanidhi 155)

"O Sri Radhe! Madhupati (Krishna) doesn’t take into consideration the innumerabile offenses commited to Saints by anyone who relished even once the sweetness of repeating your delicious holy name, but rather considers, overwhelmed with great ecstatic love, to bestow the highest gift of Your personal service to such a person. Then how can we ever think to understand the greatness of someone whose mind always dwells on Your service.”

Jaya jaya radha nama vrindavana yara dhama
Krishna sukha vilasera nidhi
Heno radha guna gana na shunilo mora kana
Vanchita korilo more vidhi
(Prema Bhakti Chandrika 108)

"Glory, glory to the holy name of Radha, that permanently dwells everywhere in Vrindavana, and that is the ocean of Krishna’s blissful transcendental pastimes. Due to my bad luck I didn’t hear the glorification of such a Radha.”

Krishna nama gane bhai, radhika charana pai
Radha nama gane krishna chandra
Sankshepe kohinu kotha, ghuchao monera byatha

"IN EVERY TOWN AND VILLAGE the chanting of the Holy Name of Krishna shall be heard. This was the forecast made by Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu almost 500 years ago in India. Today, as the Hare Krishna Mantra -- Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare -- resounds in Bombay and New York, Nairobi and Sydney, and in Paris and Hong Kong, the prophecy of Lord Caitanya stands fulfilled. The universal import of this "Samkirtan Movement" (the congregational chanting of the Holy Names of the Lord) was expressed by Lord Caitanya as follows:

"Glory to the Sri Krishna Samkirtan which cleanses the heart of all the dust accumulated for years together. Thus the fire of conditional life, of repeated birth and death, is extinguished. The Samkirtan Movement is the prime benediction for humanity at large because it spreads the rays of the benediction Moon. It is the life of all transcendental knowledge, it increases the ocean of transcendental bliss, and it helps us to have a taste of the full nectar for which we are always anxious."

Agama Tantra and the Vaishnava Samskaras as a way of life:

Recently I was asked, "Don't you find it an inconvenience to always be checking to see when is the right time to do this or the best time for that?"

In simple terms my answer was and still is; if you go to the bus or railway station or airport it is probably an intelligent venture to enquire about the times and routes of vehicles than to just hope that one will be along soon, or one is going in your direction.

There are subtle influences in the Universe that, for thousands of years gone by, advanced cultures have honoured, respected and utilised. Before the corruption of the Vedik literatures by the Christian and Moslem invaders to India all these things were used; Ayurvedik Medicine; Vedik Astrology; etc. Today there's a rennaisance among many to revive these arts.

We have been trained and studied to be able to provide these services. See some of my sites:

"The religious principles taught by Mohammed and Jesus Christ are similar to the religious principles taught by Vaishnava sects. Buddhism and Jainism are similar to Saiva-dharma. This is scientific consideration of truths regarding religious principles. Those who consider their own religious principles as real dharma and others religious principles as irreligion or subreligion are unable to ascertain the truth due to being influenced by prejudice. Actually religious principles followed by people in general are different only due to the different qualifications of the practitioners, but the constitutional religious principles of all living entities are one." Scientists Confirm Benefits of Turmeric Against Leukemia,  Alzheimer's and Other Diseases
http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/5983_998910,00430005.htm

LONDON, ENGLAND, September 10, 2004: The growing popularity of Indian food is evident from the increasing number of Indian restaurants opening up across the UK. But it is not merely the lure of the palate that ensures the success of the cuisine, now health benefits will add to the charm of a well-cooked dish. Scientists have found that spicy food could protect the body against damage that leads to cancers, in particular leukemia. Most children in India grow up with the knowledge of the benefits of turmeric, but on Thursday, a childhood leukemia conference in London was told that the root that gives yellow color to Indian dishes is an antioxidant which can protect against environmental chemicals that damage DNA. Scientists now increasingly believe that lower rates of leukemia in Asia may be due to the difference in diet. Turmeric is also said to slow the rate of diseases such as Alzheimer's and to possess anti-inflammatory properties that could help with Crohn's Disease. Speaking at the conference, Professor Moolky Nagabhushan, of Loyola University Medical Centre in Chicago, said turmeric blocks some of the harmful effects of cigarette smoke, protects against chromosome damage and prevents dangerous chemicals forming after eating processed food. It has been seen that curcumin, the compound that gives turmeric its yellow color, stops leukemia cells multiplying. He said: "Our studies show that turmeric - and curcumin - in the diet mitigate the effects of some of these risk factors." Ken Campbell, of the Leukaemia Research Fund, said leukemia was rare in people of Asian descent. He said: "This suggests that lower rates of childhood leukemia in India, China and Japan may, at least in part, be due to differences in genetically determined susceptibility."

Janmashtami Celebrated at England's House of Commons
Jay Lakhani, Vivekananda Centre, London

LONDON, ENGLAND, September 8, 2004: Today we were invited to a special Janmashtami celebration at the House of Commons promoted by Tony McNulty a Member of Parliament and sponsored by NV Lakhani foundation. The guest speakers included the deputy prime minister, cabinet ministers, and a host of other Members of Parliament as well as Ken Livingston the Mayor of London. The unique feature about this gathering was the fact that the parliamentarians thanked the Hindu community for taking Janmashtami celebrations into the House of Commons thus infusing a spiritual message into the politics of UK. It was wonderful to hear the Members of Parliament commending the role of the Hindu community in the United Kingdom and suggesting that such celebrations should be a yearly event. What we are seeing is a serious shift of emphasis in the UK of not just tolerating other religions but 'accepting other religions' as equally valid. We were very impressed by what we saw and heard.

Special Darshan in Vrindavan

The day after Balaram Purnima in Vrindavan there are very special darshans in the Saptadevalay (Seven Goswami Temples). Padmanabha Goswami of Radharaman Temple explained to me that the last few days Jhulan Yatra has been going on and Radha and Krishna have been swinging in the cool rainy season breezes and are in a funny mood, so the Divine Couple manifests all these funny Darshans the day after Purnima.

We took all the devotees on kirtan procession to all the Saptadevalay. First we came to Madan Mohan Mandir where the darshan was Radharani Rai, Radharani as a King. After dancing in Rasa Lila, the gopis and Krishna were tired and they took rest in a grove of Kadamba trees. When He awoke, Krishna could not find his flute or mukut (crown). Lalita and Visakha told Him, "Kanha, we will only give them back when you become the darwan (guard) of our King." So here we see Radharani standing high dressed as a king and we get the merciful darshan of her divine padaravinda, two lotus feet. At her feet are Krishna's mukut and flute. Madan Mohan is standing down below and instead of flute, he is holding a silver sword and shield as the darwan of Radharani Rai!

Then we proceeded to Damodar temple to see the darshan of Shyam Sakhi. In order to get close to Srimati Radharani who is upset with Him, Damodara has dressed as a Kinnari holding a beautiful gold and silver vina. The sakhis then ask the Kinnari what is her name and if she can sing a song to cheer up Srimati Radhika. "She" says Her name is Shyam Sakhi, since "She's" blackish and sings a song that plunges the gopis into ectatic bliss. To reward Shyam Sakhi, Radharani is about to give her the jewel locket from Her own neck. Lalita notices that this "sakhi" is bent in three ways and points it out to Sri Radha. But seeing her beloved dressed up this funny way, She can no longer maintain her anger. Tonight even Krishna Chandra, Madhava, and Chalchikan have joined the fun and are also dressed as sakhis with even pots of yogurt on Their heads!

We came next to Radha Shyamsundar Mandir, where Nauka Bihar (boating) pastime is taking place. They placed a beautifully decorated boat in front of the altar and brought the small Deities of Radha Shyamsundar of Shyamananda Prabhu forward and raised them up like They are sitting in the boat. Many other sakhis have joined them and are manning the silver oars. The large Radha Shyamsundar Deities of Baladeva Vidyabhusana are presiding from behind. Even they have made a small pool of water in front of the boat.

Chanting through Loi Bazaar and around Nidhivan, we arrived at Radharaman Mandir. As there is no Radharani Deity here, there is no special darshan, but then Radharaman darshan is always special. Radharaman is the self-manifested Deity of Gopala Bhatta Goswami and this night He is outside the temple chamber on a beautiful silver singhasana and we were able to very nicely observe His divine features while a traditional kirtan party was singing sweet bhajans on the platform in the rear of the temple.

From there we went nearby to Radha Gokulananda Mandir. On the way there is a small Sad Bhuja Mahaprabhu Deity. We enter and found to our surprise that Mahaprabhu is dressed up as Radharani! We know that Radha bhava dyuti sulalitam, Mahaprabhu has taken the bhava and luster of Radharani, but tonight, that bhava has burst out.

At Gokulananda Mandir the darshan is Raval Rai. Raval is the birthplace of Radharani just near Gokula, so here again She is dressed as a king and She is on a throne and have placed some extra feet coming out from under Her sari in such a way that She is sitting. They have used the large Deities of Radha Vijay Govinda of Baladeva Vidyabhusana for this darshan. Govinda's flute and mukut are resting at Radharani's lotus feet and Govinda is standing below with His silver sword and shield as the darwan of Radharani.

Going back past Radharaman Mandir, we chanted our way to Radha Gopinatha Mandir. Here the darshan is Van Bihar, forest pastimes in the night. The whole altar is covered with greenery with parrots, monkeys, and fruits. There are extra gopis and gopas besides the Deity of Ananga Manjari who traditionally presides here with Radha Gopinatha. After Nrsinga Caturdasi, there is Purnima and then two days after that, on the dwitiya day, all the Brijbasis do a Vrindavan Parikrama at night known as Van Bihar Parikrama. Here a small kirtan party sitting to one side, is sweetly serenading Radha Gopinatha in the forest.

Then there was a fired up Parikram through Gopinatha Bazaar on the way to Radha Govinda Mandir. But first we stop at Mahaprabhu Mandir, where there is an astonishing seven-foot Deity of Mahaprabhu known as Amiya Nimai. Here again, the Radha Bhava as burst forth and Mahaprabhu is dressed like Srimati Radharani. Seeing this wonderful display, the kirtan became very ecstatic with devotees dancing like firebrands. Suddenly as we went up to the upper darshan mandap to get a closer view, a small harmless snake appeared and frightened everyone. All the devotees jumped and all the video cameras focused in on him as he tried to hide behind some pillar.

Finally going around the back side of the stately dark red carved sandstone temple of Govinda Deva, we reached new Govinda Deva Mandir. All the devotees were amazed to see the incredible Subal Vesha Darshan. Krishna wanted to meet Radharani, but she was in Javat with her mother-in-law Jatila. On some pretext, Subal sent Jatila and Kutila to the forest to look for his calf. Since his features are very similar to Radhika, they exchanged dresses and She dressed up as Subal. But certain female features were still quite obvious. Subal said that there's no problem, I told everyone that I was looking for my calf, so just hold this calf on your chest and no one will notice. So here we see Radhika dressed as Subal with Her dhoti between Her legs and we also get darshan of Her supremely Divine Padaravinda! She is holding a beautiful white calf on Her chest.

We have arrived just in time for aratka so we have a very enthusiastic kirtan of Govinda Jaya Jaya Gopala Jaya Jaya. Before the temple closes for the evening, we had a boisterous kirtan in the sunken courtyard of the temple with all the visitors joining in. Then we all left and by Krishna's grace, we found just enough tongas (horsecarts) to take everyone back to Krishna Balaram Mandir doing kirtan along the way.

In service of Sri Sri Krishna Balaram,
Deena Bandhu dasa

80% of the Rakhis in India are made by Muslim artisans
http://www.nri-worldwide.com/cgi-local/ts.pl?action=fetch&area=happensonlyinindia

When Hindu women tie 'rakhis' on the wrists of their brothers on the joyous occasion of Raksha Bandhan (Aug 29), they would do well to remember the toil and tears of hundreds of down-and-out Muslim women of Ahmedabad who create these wonderful wristbands. Few know that 80 per cent of these decorative cords used all over India are designed by Mulsims living in Millat Nagar, a sardined shanty town on the outskirts of Ahmedabad in Gujarat.

Traders in Gujarat from all over the country strike a hard bargain with these hapless women living in the 1,200-odd ramshackle dwellings in the slum, to buy the beautiful bands at throwaway prices.

Rakhi-making is a year-round home trade for Millat Nagar residents who work for hours on end in their dim-lit houses, churning out hundreds of eye-catching products using plastics, cotton, sponge, fibre, silk, artificial pearls and other gingerbread materials.

The nimble-fingered designers include not only young, unlettered Muslim girls but also grey-haired grannies.

The hard-working women are paid only Rs.10 (US$ 0.22) for 12 dozen 'rakhis' which are then sold at ten-fold prices in retail.

Protestant Christian Ministers Uneducated in Other Faiths
Religion News Service

USA, September 1, 2004:   (RNS) Most Protestant ministers expressed  little familiarity with the key beliefs of a number of non-Protestant  religious groups, a survey has found. The findings by Ellison Research,  a marketing research company in Phoenix, were first reported in the  September/October edition of Facts & Trends, a magazine published by  LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention. More  than half were familiar with related faiths, such as Catholicism and  Judaism, but just 28 percent with Buddhism, 27 percent with Hinduism  and a scant 5 percent with Sikhism The survey was based on a sample of  700 Protestant minsters in 50 states.

There was a couple who used to go to England to shop in a beautiful antique store. This trip was to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.   They both liked antiques and pottery, and especially tea-cups.   Spotting an exceptional cup, they asked   "May we see that?  We've never seen a cup quite so beautiful."

As the lady handed it to them,; suddenly the tea-cup spoke, "You don't understand." It said, "I have not always been a tea-cup. There was a time when I was just a lump of red clay. My master took me and rolled me, pounded and patted me over and over and I yelled out, "Don't  do  that." "I don't like  it!" "Let  me  alone," but he only smiled, and gently said; "Not yet!!"

Then. WHAM!  I was placed on a spinning wheel and suddenly I was spun around and around and around. "Stop it !  I'm getting so  dizzy!  I'm going to be sick!",  I screamed. But the master only nodded and said, quietly;  'Not yet.'   He spun me and poked and prodded and bent me out of shape to suit himself and then......

Then he put me in the oven.  I never felt such heat.  I yelled and knocked and pounded at the door. " Help! Get me out of here!" I could see him through the opening and I could read his lips as he shook his head from side to side, 'Not yet'.

"When I thought I couldn't bear it another minute, the door opened.  He carefully took me out and put me on the shelf, and I began to cool.  Oh, that felt so good!  "Ah, this is much better," I thought.

But, after I cooled he picked me up and he brushed and painted me all over.  The fumes were horrible. I thought I would gag. 'Oh, please; Stop it, Stop it!!' I cried. He only shook his head and said. 'Not yet!'.

Then suddenly he put me back in to the oven.   Only it was not like the first one. This was twice as hot and I just knew I would suffocate.  I begged. I pleaded. I screamed. I cried.   I was convinced I would never make it.  I was ready to give up.  Just then the door opened and he took me out and again placed me on the shelf, where I cooled and waited and waited, wondering "What's he going to do to me next?"

An hour later he handed me a mirror and said 'Look at yourself.' And I did.

I said, 'That's not me; that couldn't be me.  It's beautiful.  I'm beautiful!"'

Quietly he spoke: "I want you to remember, then,' he said, 'I know it hurt to be rolled and pounded and patted, but had I just left you alone, you'd have dried up.

I know it made you dizzy to spin around on the wheel, but if I had stopped, you would have crumbled.

I know it hurt and it was hot and disagreeable in the oven, but if I hadn't put you there, you would have cracked.

I know the fumes were bad when I brushed and painted you all over, but if I hadn't done that, you never would have hardened.  You would not have had any color in your life. If I hadn't put you back in that second oven, you wouldn't have survived for long because the hardness would not have held.

Now you are a finished product. Now you are what I had in mind when I first began with you."

The moral of this story is this:

God knows what He's doing [ for each of us ]. He is the potter, and we are His clay. He will mould us and make us, and expose us to just enough pressures of just the right kinds that we may be made into a flawless piece of work to fulfill His good, pleasing and perfect will.

So when life seems hard, and you are being pounded and patted and pushed almost beyond endurance; when your world seems to be spinning out of control;  when you feel like you are in a fiery furnace of trials; when life seems to "stink", try this....  Brew a cup of of your favorite tea in your prettiest tea cup,  sit down and think on this story and then, have a little talk with the Potter.

Vege update:
Social scientists and law enforcement officials have identified animal abuse as a symptom of emotional illness and a precursor to violent crimes against human beings. To allow individuals guilty of perpetrating such cruel acts to go unpunished or not sufficiently punished would be to sanction these horrific crimes and would permit them to go on to possibly commit violent crimes against humans.

Bengal Royal Rice
Preparation and cooking time: 50 minutes
Yield: 6 to 8 persons (or two Bengalis)

Ingredients:
1 ½ Cups Basmati rice, white or brown
1/2 tsp Saffron threads
3 Cups Purified water
2 tsp Sea salt
3 tsp Nutmeg
1/3 Cup Ghee (clarified butter)
1/4 Cup Cashew bits, or halves
1/4 Cup Almonds, slivered
3 Tbsp Raisins
1 tsp Fennel seeds
1 Cinnamon stick
1 tsp Cumin seeds
6 Pods, Cardamom, bruised
6 Whole Cloves
1 tsp. Black pepper
1/4 tsp Cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp. Asafetida, (a spice similar in flavour to onions and garlic), can be found in most natural food stores.
2 Tbsp Coconut, shredded
1/3 Cup Green peas, frozen
1/4 Cup Raw sugar

Method:
1.Wash, drain, and dry the rice.
2.Boil the water, salt, saffron and nutmeg in a 2-quart saucepan over a moderate heat. Keep it covered to avoid evaporation.
3.Heat 2 tablespoons of the ghee in a 4-quart saucepan over moderate heat. Add the cashews and almonds and toast. Remove with a slotted spoon and add the raisins for a couple of seconds  until they swell. Remove and place them in a bowl with the cashews and almonds.
4.Heat 2 tablespoons of ghee in same pan. Sauté the rice for 2 to 3 minutes over moderate heat; then add the boiling water. Stir, raise the heat, and bring the water to a full boil. Immediately reduce the heat to low, cover with a tight fitting lid, and gently simmer, without stirring, for 15 to 20 minutes or until all the water has been absorbed and the rice is tender and flaky.
5.Remove the rice from the heat, leaving the lid on for another 5 minutes to allow the rice to become firm.
6.Place the remaining ghee in a heavy pan over moderate heat.
Stir-fry the fennel seeds, cinnamon stick, cumin seeds, cardamom pods and whole cloves for 1 minute. Add the black pepper, cayenne, asafetida, and dried or fresh coconut. Sauté for 1 minute and then add the peas, sugar, nuts and raisins. Remove from the heat.
7.Carefully combine the cooked rice with all the other ingredients.
Serve in a beautiful bowl befitting this beautiful rice.

Cauliflower and Potato Supreme (Gobi Alu Bhaji)
For best results with this North Indian favourite, use pure ghee as the frying medium. Serve this rich vegetable dish for special occasions.

PREPARATION AND COOKING TIME: 35 minutes
YIELD: enough for 5 or 6 persons
Ingredients:
2 large baking potatoes peeled and cut into 21/2 cm (1-inch) cubes
ghee or oil for deep frying
1 medium cauliflower cut into flowerets
1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) coarsely ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon (2 ml) ginger powder
1/2 teaspoon (2 ml) turmeric
1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt
1 cup (250 ml) plain yogurt or sour cream at room temperature
1 tablespoon (20 ml) chopped fresh coriander or parsley

1. Rinse the potato cubes in cold water. Drain and pat them dry.
2. Place enough ghee in a deep wok or pan that will well-cover the quantity of potatoes. Heat the ghee to 190°C/375°F. Fry the potatoes until golden brown (8 - 10 minutes). (You might need to fry in 2 batches). Remove and drain the potatoes. Deep-fry the cauliflowers until they're cooked but slightly firm. Remove and drain them.
3. When all the vegetables are deep-fried, drained, and still warm, place them in a large bowl, add the spices, salt, and yogurt or sour cream. Add the fresh herbs and serve immediately. If not serving immediately, when you are ready to serve, warm the spiced vegetables in a low-heat oven and add the yogurt or sour cream.

'Radha Red’ Plum Chutney
This is a version of the famous "Radha Red" plum chutney that has been a favourite at many Hare Krishna multi-course feasts throughout Australia for decades. It features the subtle and exotic flavour of pure camphor, sometimes available at Chinese and Indian grocery stores. The plums should, if possible, be the Damson variety or the red plums referred to as a "blood plums".

PREPARATION TIME: about 1 hour
YIELD: about 3 cups (750 ml)

Ingredients:
1.4 kg (3 pounds) ripe red plums,
pitted and cut into eighths
a pinch of raw camphor crystals
2 cups (500 ) sugar
3 tablespoons (60 ml) finely shredded
fresh coconut
4 tablespoons (80 ml) butter
11/2 teaspoons (7 ml) ground coriander
1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) powdered cardamom seeds

1. Heat the butter over low heat in heavy 5-litre/quart saucepan until it froths. Add the coriander, cardamom, and coconut, saute for one minute, and add the plums. Raise the heat and bring the chutney to a boil; then reduce the heat and simmer covered for about 15 minutes or until the plums lose their shape.
2. Add the sugar and continue to simmer uncovered for another 40 - 45 minutes or until the chutney is fairly thick and glazed, stirring occasionally. Add the camphor crystals and mix well.
Serve at room temperature or refrigerate covered for up to 4 days.

Wash urad dahl thoroughly. Soak in water overnight. Drain, leaving a tiny bit of water. In a blender, grind urad dahl until it is a smooth paste, adding a little more water if necessary. The paste should be very thick. Set aside.
Add anise seed to paste. Using white flour, butter or ghee solids and water, make a soft dough, like puri dough. (Not wet.) Let the dough sit for one hour under a dampened cloth. Meanwhile prepare three very small bowls in the following manner:

1.      Put in a mixture of 1 T. water and 1/2 t. asafoetida.
2.      Put plain salt in the second.
3.      Put cayenne pepper in the third.

Pinch off balls of dough one inch in diameter. Roll them out into circles of 21/2" in diameter. Pinch off a ball of kachori paste about one inch in diameter; dip into each of bowls in succession, and place in the center of the circle of kachori dough. Gather up the dough around the paste as you would gather a paper bag. Make sure all the urad dahl is covered, and seal the top edge very well using a little water. Flatten the sealed kachori with a rolling pin, and then roll gently as you would a puri or chapati.

Be very careful not to break the surfaces. If necessary, pat them out by hand. Deep-fry the kachori in fairly hot ghee as you would a puri. Stand up kachoris on paper toweling to drain. Before offering them, refry very quickly, but do not brown.

This preparation is one of Srimati Radharani's favorites and is always prepared for Her appearance day. There is nothing in the material world to compare with the flavor of Radhaballabha Kachoris.

Rajasthani Spicy Dal-Stuffed Bread
(Urad Dal Poori)
These spicy, fried breads called Urad Dal Pooris (and sometimes called Urad Dal Kachoris) are a popular roadside snack in Rajasthan. Uraddal can be obtained at any Indian grocer. Serve these tasty breads with hot Pumpkin and Potatoes Marwari Style, Date and Tamarind Sauce, or as a snack with a dab of fresh yogurt.

DAL SOAKING TIME: 4 hours
PREPARATION TIME: 45 minutes
COOKING TIME: 30 minutes
YIELD: about 20 dal pooris

Ingredients:
1 cup (250 ml) urad dal
2 cups (500 ml) sifted chapati flour or half-wholemeal and half-unbleached plain flour
1/2 cup (125 ml) ghee or oil, warmed
3 teaspoons (10 ml) salt
water
1 tablespoon (20 ml) coriander seeds
1 tablespoon (20 ml) fennel seeds
1 tablespoon (20 ml) cumin seeds
8 whole black peppercorns
4 large dried red chilies
ghee for frying

1. Place the urad dal in a bowl, cover with cold water, and leave to soak for 4 hours. Drain, place in a blender or food processor with a sprinkle of cold water, and grind coarsely to a paste. Transfer to a small bowl.
2. In another bowl, combine the flour, 4 tablespoons (80 ml) of warm ghee, 2 teaspoons (10 ml) of salt, and enough water to make a stiff but smooth dough. Knead well and put aside, covered with a cloth, for 20 minutes.
3. Sprinkle the coriander seeds, cumin, fennel, black peppercorns, and chilies into a heavy pan and dry-roast them over moderate heat until they darken a few shades and become aromatic (a few minutes). Transfer them to a coffee grinder, or mortar and pestle, and grind them to a powder.
4. Heat 1 tablespoon (20 ml) of ghee or oil in a heavy pan over moderate heat. Add the dal paste and stir-fry it, stirring constantly over moderate heat until it starts to stick on the bottom. Remove from the heat, add the powdered spices and 1 teaspoon of the salt, and mix well. Transfer onto a plate or dish to cool.
5. Divide the dough into 20 portions. Roll each portion into a smooth ball. With a rolling pin on a slightly oiled surface, roll out each ball into a thick patty about 5 cm (2-inches) wide. Place 1 tablespoon (20 ml) of cooled filling in the centre of each one, gathering the edges of the dough back over to completely enclose the filling. Pinch the excess dough together and press it back into the centre of the patty. Flatten slightly; then with a rolling pin roll out seam side down (carefully avoiding puncturing the pastry) into a disk 5 -  71/2 cm (2 - 3 inches) wide.
6. When all the dal pooris are rolled, heat the ghee or oil in a pan or wok to 180°C/355°F and carefully slip in 3 or 4 dal pooris. They will immediately sink then rise to the surface. Press them down with a slotted spoon until they inflate. Fry them until lightly browned on one side (about 2 minutes) then turn them over and fry on the second side for another 1 or 2 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a triple-thickness of paper towels. Cook all dalpooris and serve hot.

Vegetable Fritters (Pakoras):
Pakoras are popular spiced, batter-dipped, deep-fried, vegetables that make perfect snacks or hors d'oeuvres. Ghee is the preferred medium for frying pakoras, although you can use nut or vegetable oil. Serve hot pakoras with you favourite chutney or dip.
Try batter-frying various types of vegetables. Cauliflower pakoras are probably the most popular, but equally delicious are potato rings, zucchini chunks, spinach leaves, pumpkin slices, eggplant rings, baby tomatoes, sweet potatoes, red or green pepper slices, asparagus tips, and artichoke hearts.
Cook pakoras slowly to ensure that the batter and the vegetables cook simultaneously. You needn't precook the vegetables.

PREPARATION TIME: 10 minutes
BATTER SITTING TIME: 10 - 15 minutes
COOKING TIME: 30 minutes
YIELD: 2 dozen large or 3 dozen medium pakoras

Ingredients:
2/3 cup (165 ml) chickpea flour
2/3 cup (165 ml) plain flour
2/3 cup (165 ml) self-raising flour
21/2 teaspoons (12 ml) salt
2 teaspoons (10 ml) yellow asafoetida powder
11/2 teaspoons (7 ml) turmeric
2 teaspoons (10 ml) cayenne pepper
11/2 teaspoons (7 ml) ground coriander
2 teaspoons (10 ml) green chilies, seeded and finely chopped about 21/2 cups (625 ml) cold water, or enough to make a smooth batter bite-sized vegetable pieces of your choice ghee or oil for deep-frying

1. Combine the flours, salt, powdered spices, and green chilies in a bowl. Mix well with a wire whisk.
2. Slowly add cold water while whisking the batter until it achieves the consistency of medium-light cream. When you dip the vegetable in the batter, it should be completely coated but neither thick and heavy nor runny and thin. Have extra flour and water on hand to adjust the consistency as required. Let the batter sit for 10 to 15 minutes.
3. Heat fresh ghee or oil, to the depth of 61/2 - 71/2 cm (21/2 - 3 inches, in a wok or deep-frying vessel until the temperature reaches about 180°C/355°F. Dip 5 or 6 pieces of vegetable in the batter and, one at a time, carefully slip them into the hot oil.
4. The temperature will fall, but try to maintain it between 173°C - 180°C/345°F - 355°F  throughout the frying. Fry until the pakoras are golden brown, turning to cook them evenly on all sides. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Continue cooking until all the pakoras are done. Serve immediately or keep warm, uncovered, in a preheated cool oven for up to 1/2 hour.

Apple and Blackberry Crumble:
This version of the famous English dessert has delighted customers at Gopal's Restaurant in Melbourne for many years. Succulent stewed apples, folded with fresh blackberries, are baked with a buttery, crunchy topping and served with cream or hot custard.

PREPARATION AND COOKING TIME: 15 minutes
BAKING TIME: 20 minutes
YIELD: enough for 6 to 8 persons

Ingredients:
6 medium green apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
11/2 cups (375 ml) fresh blackberries (or try raspberries, loganberries, or boysenberries)
1 tablespoon (20 ml) sugar

Soft Cakes in Strawberry Yogurt (Malpoora):
This luscious version of the well known Indian sweet Malpoora is not traditional but rather something that has been developed over 2 decades in the Sunday Feast kitchens of Hare Krishna Temples around the world. Spoonfuls of thick batter are deep-fried in ghee to produce doughnut-like soft cakes, which are suspended in sweetened, fruit flavoured yogurt. You can substitute any fresh ripe berry for the strawberries, or try banana, passion fruit, papaya, mango, or kiwifruit.

PREPARATION TIME: 15 minutes
BATTER RESTING TIME: 15 minutes
COOKING TIME: 20 minutes
YIELD: about 2 dozen
Ingredients:
21/4 cups (560 ml) self-raising flour
1 cup (250 ml) icing sugar
11/4 cups (310 ml) cold water
ghee for deep-frying
5 cups (11/4 litres) plain yogurt, chilled
3/4 cup (185 ml) caster sugar
11/2 cups (375 ml) strawberries, washed and quartered

1. Sift together the flour and icing sugar in a bowl. Add the water gradually, while stirring with a wire whisk, until the mixture reaches a consistency somewhere between batter and dough. Spoon in one tablespoon (20 ml) of yogurt and whisk again. The finished batter should cling to a spoon. Allow to set for 15 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, heat the ghee to a depth of 6.5 - 7.5 cm (21/2 - 3 inches) in a wok or deep-frying pan over moderately low heat 160°C/320°F.
3. Spoon out a tablespoon of batter from the bowl. With the aid of a second spoon, deftly slide the batter into the hot ghee. Quickly repeat the procedure for about 8 spoonfuls of batter. Allow the cakes to inflate in the ghee. Then turn them over with a slotted spoon and fry them, turning occasionally, for about 3 to 4 minutes, or until they are light golden brown all over. Remove and drain. Repeat until all the batter is used up.
4. Combine the yogurt and caster sugar in a large bowl. Crush a few berries through your fingers into the yogurt. Add the rest of the berries and combine well.
5. Carefully fold the fried cakes into the fruit yogurt and refrigerate, allowing the cakes to soak for about 30 minutes before serving. Serve the malpoora in individual dessert bowls with strawberry yogurt spooned on top.

Brahmin bagels by Devadeva dasi

Although we devotees like to restrict ourselves to homemade breads, every once in a while some of us get that certain yen for a little bagel nosh. Instead of submitting ourselves to the karma and disappointment of store- bought supermarket bagels, why not make our own? I have seen some pretty good bagel recipes by devotee chefs and feel it is my dharma to continue the bagel parampara.

By following a few easy steps, devotees can achieve the bagel-jyoti. While they probably will not replicate the bagels of one's youth (unless one grew up in Kansas) they are an acceptable replacement.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees

Use your favorite bread dough or use mine:

Ingredients:
Combine 12 cups flour (white, wheat, or any ratio of integration of the two)
1/4 cup oil
3 tablespoons sugar (white or brown, it's up to you)
3 tablespoons yeast
1 teaspoon salt
3-4 cups of hot water or whey

Method:
Now knead!
On an oily work surface, grab some dough and form rings that look like, you guessed it, bagels! Craft stores such as Michael's (if you are in the USA) sell doughnut/bagel shaped cookie cutter rings that work perfectly for shaping the dough. Usually there are two sizes of these cutters. I recommend the smaller size for the stability of the bagel throughout the bagel-making process. Lay each bagel on an oiled baking sheet and cover with a cloth. Allow the bagels to rise in a warm area. Brush with a little milk or keep it pareve* by brushing with plain soymilk.

The next step in the bagel making process involves good old-fashioned steam. Bagel makers can choose between boiling your bagel in a big pot of water for five minutes or steaming bagels on wax paper in a covered colander or bamboo steamer. Make sure not to turn the bagels over, and leave room for them to expand upon boiling. After boiling or steaming, drain bagels in a sieve and then place on baking sheet prepared with farina or cornmeal. I have found my boiled bagels to remain mushy in areas when boiled, therefore I personally prefer the steaming method.

Bake until bagels are brown. Allow bagels to cool and shmear with butter or cream cheese. Many of you may have a strong urge to say a brachah** over the bagels, but I know Krishna would prefer us to simply recite the standard offering prayers. Now that Krishna has eaten, it's your turn. Mmmmm. Delish!

This recipe makes 22 large size bagels or 44 small size bagels.

* "Pareve": a term used in Jewish cooking, not necessary for prasad. The bagel is a traditional Jewish bread.

** "Brachah": a Hebrew prayer.Ed.

Offering our food to Krishna:
....excerpt from lecture by HDG Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada - Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.3.1-3 -- San Francisco, March 28, 1968

The Vedic literature says like this, that God has no leg, no hand. Therefore the impersonalists take advantage of it. "Oh, here it is stated God has no legs, no hands." But the next line is, javana grhita: "He can accept everything which you offer Him in devotion."

Now how He can accept? If He has no hand, how He can accept things from us? That means He hasn't got a hand like us. His hand is different. Therefore even though He is situated in the spiritual world, which is far, far away from us, still, He says in the Bhagavad-gita, it is said,

patram puspam phalam toyam
yo me bhaktya prayacchati
tad aham bhakty-upahrtam
asnami prayatatmanah

Krsna says that "A little flower or little water or a little leaf, whatever My devotee offers Me in love and devotion, I accept it." And tad aham bhakty-upahrtam. "And because he has brought it with great devotion, therefore I eat." Tad aham bhakty-upahrtam asnami. Asnami means "I eat." Now you can say, "All right, I'll offer these fruits and flower to God, but it is the same. It is remaining. How He is eating?" But His eating is not like my eating, because He hasn't got a body like this. This body is material. If you bring me a plate of fruits, this body immediately swallows it. But He has got spiritual body. He eats... Simply as soon as He knows that you have offered it in devotion, He eats immediately.

Go here to follow the simple system for offering foodstuffs to the Lord

Four Wives parable:

A college professor, an avowed Athiest, was teaching his class. He shocked several of his students when he flatly stated he was going to prove there was no God.
Addressing the ceiling he shouted: "God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform.  I'll give you 15 minutes!"
The lecture room fell silent. You could have heard a pin fall. Ten minutes went by.  Again he taunted God, saying, "Here I am, God.  I'm still waiting."
His count-down got down to the last couple of minutes when a Marine - just released from active duty and newly registered in the class - walked up to the professor, hit him full force in the face, and sent him tumbling from his lofty platform. The professor was out cold! At first, the students shocked and babbled in confusion.

The young Marine took a seat in the front row and sat silent. The class fell silent...waiting.
Eventually, the professor came to, shaken. He looked at the young Marine in the front row.  When he regained his senses and could speak he asked:  "What's the matter with you?  Why did you do that?"
The Marine quietly replied, "God was busy.  He sent me."

One night, an 87-year-old woman came home from Bingo to find her husband in bed with another woman.

She became violent and ended up pushing him off the balcony of their 20th-floor assisted-living apartment, killing him instantly.

Brought before the court on the charge of murder, she was asked if she had anything to say in defense of herself.

"Your Honor," she began coolly, "I figured that at 92 years old, if he could do that, then he could fly too".

from Bhakta Gary Kearns in Qw8

I dropped off my wife at her hairstylist, and she was to phone me when it was time to pick her up.
She got quite a surprise when she called.  A male voice said, "Hello," so she assumed that she'd reached me.
"Come and get me," she said.
"Are you sure?" the man replied. "This is Everest Funeral Home."

The school bell rang just as little Jasbindar started eating a Popsicle, and since he didn't want to waste it, he stuck it in his pants pocket.

In the classroom the teacher asked little Vichee what they called people who lived at the North Pole. She said, "Eskimos."

Then teacher asked little Tara what they called people who live in Mexico. She said, "Mexicans."

The teacher asked Jasbindar what they called people who live in Europe, and Jasbindar said, "I don't know."

Then super-smart little Manika behind Jasbindar said, "European."
Little Jasbindar's face turned red and he screamed, "I AM NOT! My Popsicle is melting!"

A THEORY OF CREATION

God created the mule, and told him, "You will be mule, working constantly from dusk to dawn, carrying heavy loads on your back. You will eat grass and lack intelligence. You will live for 50 years."  The mule answered, "To live like this for 50 years is too much. Please, give me no more than 20." And it was so.

Then God created the dog, and told him, "You will hold vigilance over the dwellings of Man, to whom you will be his greatest companion. You will eat his table scraps and live for 25 years."  And the dog responded, "Lord, to live 25 years as a dog like that is too much. Please, no more than 10 years." And it was so.

God then created the monkey, and told him, "You are monkey. You shall swing from tree to tree, acting like an idiot. You will be funny, and you shall live for 20 years."  And the monkey responded, "Lord, to live 20 years as the clown of the world is too much. Please, Lord, give me no more than 10 years." And it was so.

Finally, God created Man and told him, "You are Man, the only rational being that walks the earth. You will use your intelligence to have mastery over the creatures of the world. You will dominate the earth and live for 20 years."  And the man responded, "Lord, to be Man for only 20 years is too little. Please, Lord, give me the 30 years the mule refused, the 15 years the dog refused, and the 10 years the monkey rejected." And it was so.

And so God made Man to live 20 years as a man, then marry and live 30 years like a mule working and carrying heavy loads on his back. Then, he is to have children and live 15 years as a dog, guarding his house and eating the leftovers after they empty the pantry; then, in his old age, to live 10 years as a monkey, acting like an idiot to amuse his grand children.

SHARK!!

There is this atheist swimming in the ocean. All of the sudden he sees this shark in the water, so he starts swimming towards his boat. As he looks back he sees the shark turn and head towards him. His boat is a ways off and he starts swimming like crazy. He's scared to death, and as he turns to see the jaws of the great white beast open revealing its teeth in a horrific splendor, the atheist screams, "Oh God! Save me!" In an instant time is frozen and a bright light shines down from above. The man is motionless in the water when he hears the voice of God say, "You are an atheist. Why do you call upon me when you do not believe in me?" Aghast with confusion and knowing he can't lie the man replies, "Well, that's true I don't believe in you, but how about the shark? Can you make the shark believe in you?" The Lord replies, "As you wish," and the light retracted back into the heavens and the man could feel the water begin to move once again. As the atheist looks back he can see the jaws of the shark start to close down on him, when all of sudden the shark stops and pulls back. Shocked, the man looks at the shark as the huge beast closes its eyes and bows its head and says, "Thank you Lord for this food for which I am about to receive..."

Two Priests On Vacation

Two priests were going to Hawaii on vacation and decided that they would make this a real vacation by not wearing anything that would identify them as clergy.

As soon as the plane landed, they headed for a store and bought some really outrageous shorts, shirts, sandals, sunglasses, and etc.

The next morning they went to the beach, dressed in their "tourist" garb and were sitting on beach chairs, enjoying a drink, the sunshine and the scenery when a "drop dead gorgeous" blonde in a tiny bikini came walking straight towards them. They couldn't help but stare and when she passed them, she smiled and said, "Good morning, Father" - "Good morning, Father," nodding and addressing each of them individually, then passed on by.They were both stunned. How in the world did she recognize them as priests?

The next day they went back to the store, bought even more outrageous outfits-these were so loud, you could hear them before you even saw them-and again settled on the beach in their chairs to enjoy the sunshine, etc.

After a while, the same gorgeous blonde, wearing a string bikini this time, came walking toward them again. (They were glad they had sunglasses, because their eyes were about to pop out of their heads.)

Again, she approached them and greeted them individually: "Good morning, Father," "Good morning Father," and started to walk away.

One of the priests couldn't stand it and said. "Just a minute, young lady. Yes, we are priests, and proud of it, but I have to know, how in the world did YOU know?"

"Oh, Father, don't you recognize me? I'm Sister Angela!"

By 7 p.m. things had not changed, so I suggested I go outside, pretend I had just got home, and start all over again.  My wife agreed.

I went outside, came back in and, with a big smile, announced, "Honey, I'm home!"

"And just where have you been?" she replied sharply "It's after seven o'clock!

Bill Gates Dies

Bill Gates died in a car accident. He found himself in Purgatory being sized up by God. ...

"Well, Bill, I'm really confused on this call. I'm not sure whether to send you to Heaven or Hell. After all, you enormously helped society by putting a computer in almost every home in the world and yet you created that ghastly Windows 95. I'm going to do something I've never done before. In your case, I'm going to let you decide where you want to go!"

Bill replied: "Well, thanks, God. What's the difference between the two?"

God said: "I'm willing to let you visit both places briefly if it will help you make a decision."

"Fine, but where should I go first?" asked Bill.

God said: "I'm going to leave it up to you."

Bill said: "OK, then, let's try Hell first." So Bill went to Hell...

It was a beautiful, clean, sandy beach with clear waters. There were thousands of beautiful women running around, playing in the water, laughing and frolicking about. The sun was shining and the temperature was perfect. Bill was very pleased.

"This is great!" he told God. "If this is Hell, I REALLY want to see Heaven!"

"Fine" said God and off they went.

Heaven was a high place in the clouds, with angels drifting about playing harps and singing. It was nice but not as enticing as Hell.
Bill thought for a quick minute and rendered his decision.

"Hmm, I think I prefer Hell" he told God.

"Fine" retorted God, "as you desire".

So Bill Gates went to Hell.

Two weeks later, God decided to check up on the late billionaire to see how he was doing in Hell.

When God arrived in Hell, he found Bill shackled to a wall, screaming amongst the hot flames in a dark cave. He was being burned and tortured by demons.

"How's everything going, Bill?" God asked.

Bill responded, his voice full of anguish and disappointment: "This is awful, this is not what I expected. I can't believe this happened.
What happened to that other place with the beaches and the beautiful women playing in the water?"

God says: "That was the screen saver."
