Of sacrifices, the sacrifice performed according to the directions of scripture, as a matter of duty, by those who desire no reward, is of the nature of goodness.PURPORT by HDG Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta swami Prabhupada:
The general tendency is to offer sacrifice with some purpose in mind, but here it is stated that sacrifice should be performed without any such desire. It should be done as a matter of duty. Take, for example, the performance of rituals in temples or in churches. Generally they are performed with the purpose of material benefit, but that is not in the mode of goodness. One should go to a temple or church as a matter of duty, offer respect to the Supreme Personality of Godhead and offer flowers and eatables. Everyone thinks that there is no use in going to the temple just to worship God. But worship for economic benefit is not recommended in the scriptural injunctions. One should go simply to offer respect to the Deity. That will place one in the mode of goodness. It is the duty of every civilized man to obey the injunctions of the scriptures and offer respect to the Supreme Personality of Godhead.Copyright 1983 The Bhaktivedanta Book Trust International. Bluffing Others and Bluffing Themselves
On another morning walk, Srila Prabhupada was vehemently criticizing the politicians for bluffing the people with false propaganda about birth control. Knowing some politicians myself, I felt that actually I believed what they were saying, so I asked Srila Prabhupada, "When you say the politicians are bluffing the people, are they consciously bluffing them or do they actually believe they are doing good?" Srila Prabhupada replied with great force, " They are bluffing the people - and they have bluffed themselves also."

Prabhupada: (chants mangalacarana) So Prahlada Maharaja's proposal is that kaumara acaret prajnah. Intelligent Who is intelligent? He should begin Krsna consciousness from childhood. Not that we have to wait. And he is presenting an analytical study of the whole life, that unless we begin Krsna consciousness from childhood, hardly there will be opportunity to practice this transcendental method. Because in the beginning he has said that this life, human form of life, is very rare. The present educational system, they do not know it, that how important this human form of life is and how it has to be utilized. So that is being explained.
So he is analyzing the whole life, that pumso varsa-satam hy ayuh [SB 7.6.6]. Accepting that we have got one hundred years of life, but we have to waste half of it, fifty years, by sleeping at night. So immediately fifty years minus. Nisphalam yad asau ratryam sete 'ndham prapitas tamah. When we sleep, we have no activity. We cannot make any advance, any department of knowledge. Sometimes we sleep more by intoxicating habit. So nisphalam yad asau ratryam. The whole night is wasted because we cannot produce anything. There are two kinds of production: material production and spiritual production. Arthadam. Artha means factual profit. So there are two kinds of profit. Those who are materialists, they calculate profit by dollars, and those who are spiritualists, they calculate profit: "How much I have advanced today in spiritual or Krsna consciousness?" Both of them are profits. So either make this profit or that profit, but don't waste your time. That is the proposal. But the best profit is, for human form of life, to advance in Krsna consciousness. So he has analyzed that mugdhasya balye kaisore kridato yati vimsatih [SB 7.6.7]. So fifty years immediately minus from our life. Then, by playing in youthhood and childhood, another twenty years. Seventy years minus. Then jaraya grasta dehasya yaty akalpasya vimsatih. Then, when old age comes, by disease, by invalidity, another twenty years minus. That means fifty plus twenty plus twenty. Out of hundred years, ninety years gone. Then,
durapurena kamena
mohena ca baliyasa
sesam grhesu saktasya
pramattasyapayati hi
[SB 7.6.8]
The balance ten years, because the whole life we have spoiled in material activities, in the balance, ten years are wasted: "What I have done, and how to pull on? Oh, this was not successful. How I have to make successful? This boy was not educated. That boy was not properly brought up. He has gone out home...," so many anxieties. That means if we do not practice from childhood, then in the advanced age it is not possible. That is the proposal of Prahlada Maharaja.

“O son of Kunti, the nonpermanent appearance of happiness and distress, and their disappearance in due course, are like the appearance and disappearance of winter and summer seasons. They arise from sense perception, O scion of Bharata, and one must learn to tolerate them without being disturbed.” (Bhagavad Gita verse 2.14)
The Last Words of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupada.
On December 27, 1936, several days prior to the setting of the blazing sun of the Gaudiya Vaishnava sampradaya, Om Vishnupada Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur, he spoke to an gathering of his closest disciples, at which time he said the following words:
“I have disturbed many people because I felt myself obliged to speak the unadulterated truth. I have told everyone to worship Hari without hypocrisy and because of this some people have perhaps considered me to be their enemy. So I have caused many people anxiety by telling them to give up other desires and hypocrisy and to sincerely serve Krishna. Some day they will be able to understand what I was getting at.
“All of you please preach the message of Rupa and Raghunath with great enthusiasm. The ultimate object of our desires is to become specks of dust at the lotus feet of the followers of Rupa Goswami. Remain united in following the asraya-vigraha in order to satisfy the transcendental senses of the one, non-dual supreme truth. Make your way through this impermanent, transitory life in whatever way you can, keeping the goal of worshiping the Lord foremost in your minds. Don’t abandon this goal, even in the face of hundreds of dangers, insults, or persecutions. Don’t lose your spirit if you see that the majority of people cannot accept the principle of selfless service to the Supreme Lord. Never abandon your bhajana, hearing and chanting Krishna-katha, the be-all and end-all of your devotional life. Please always chant the name of the Lord, being humbler than a blade of grass and more tolerant than the tree.
“This body is like the aging cow which in ancient times was meant to be offered up in sacrifice. Only we desire to offer the body to Krishna in the sacrifice of the Holy Name established by Sri Krishna Chaitanya and his associates. We do not seek to become heroes performing great works or religious deeds; our true being and our identity is that of a speck of dust at the lotus feet of Sri Rupa Prabhu, life after life. The stream which flows from Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur will never be dammed up. Remember this and vow to double your efforts to fulfill Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur’s desires. Amongst you are many capable and worthy individuals. We seek nothing for ourselves; our only motto is:
adadanas trnam dantair idam yace punah
punah |
srimad rupa-padambhoja-dhulh syam janma-janmani
||
Taking grass between my teeth, I pray repeatedly that I may become a speck of dust at Sri Rupa Goswami’s lotus feet, birth after birth. (Raghunath Das Goswami, Muktacarita.)
“While living in the world, we encounter many difficulties; but there is no need for us to be bewildered by these difficulties -- nor need we make any effort to remove them. What is necessary is for us, while we are still here, is to learn what will remain after we have removed all those difficulties -- what will be the nature of our eternal life. There are so many things which we want or don’t want, but we have to come to terms with this duality of attractions and repulsions. The more we distance ourselves from Krishna’s lotus feet, the more these things will draw us in. We can only begin to comprehend the exquisite taste of service to Krishna’s lotus feet after transcending these worldly attractions and repulsions and being attracted by his holy name. The doctrines of Krishna-bhakti seem startling at first, perhaps even perplexing. Knowingly or unknowingly, every human being is struggling to eliminate the adventitious elements in life which interfere with his direct experience of eternal fulfillment. Our only obligation is to go beyond duality and to enter the world of that eternal fulfillment.
“We have no attachment for anyone in this world, nor any hostility. Whatever arrangements we make in this world last but a moment, while the need to search out the supreme fulfillment is equally unavoidable for everyone. May all of you work united and in harmony toward the same goal: to earn the right to serve the root asraya-vigraha. May the current of ideas propagated by Rupa Goswami flow throughout the world. May we never under any circumstances become indifferent to the seven-tongued sacrificial flame of the Holy Name. If our attraction to it remains ever-increasing, we will achieve all perfection. Remain faithful to Rupa Goswami’s followers and preach Rupa and Raghunath’s teachings enthusiastically and fearlessly.”
"IN EVERY TOWN AND VILLAGE the chanting of the Holy Name of Krishna shall be heard. This was the forecast made by Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu almost 500 years ago in India. Today, as the Hare Krishna Mantra -- Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare -- resounds in Bombay and New York, Nairobi and Sydney, and in Paris and Hong Kong, the prophecy of Lord Caitanya stands fulfilled. The universal import of this "Samkirtan Movement" (the congregational chanting of the Holy Names of the Lord) was expressed by Lord Caitanya as follows:
"Glory to the Sri Krishna Samkirtan which cleanses the heart of all the dust accumulated for years together. Thus the fire of conditional life, of repeated birth and death, is extinguished. The Samkirtan Movement is the prime benediction for humanity at large because it spreads the rays of the benediction Moon. It is the life of all transcendental knowledge, it increases the ocean of transcendental bliss, and it helps us to have a taste of the full nectar for which we are always anxious."

Agama Tantra and the Vaishnava Samskaras
as a way of life:
Recently I was asked, "Don't you find it an inconvenience to always be checking to see when is the right time to do this or the best time for that?"
In simple terms my answer was and still is; if you go to the bus or railway station or airport it is probably an intelligent venture to enquire about the times and routes of vehicles than to just hope that one will be along soon, or one is going in your direction.
There are subtle influences in the Universe that for thousands of years by advanced cultures have honoured, respected and utilised. Before the corruption of the Vedik literatures by the Christian and Moslem invaders to India all these things were used; Ayurvedik Medicine; Vedik Astrology; etc. Today there's a rennaisance among many to revive these arts.
We have been trained and studied to be able to provide these services. See some of my sites:

This is scientific consideration of truths regarding religious principles. Those who consider their own religious principles as real dharma and others religious principles as irreligion or subreligion are unable to ascertain the truth due to being influenced by prejudice. Maharishi Vedic City wins vote for the "American Dream
Town" in Iowa
"Our city fulfils the American dream of a happy, healthy life in a
safe and peaceful environment"-Mayor Wynne
NEWS RELEASE
13 January 2004
Contact: Robert Roth (USA) +1-641-472-7285
Maharishi Vedic City -- Iowa's newest city -- is also Iowa's "American Dream Town," according the results of a widely publicized Internet vote that sought to identify the most ideal small town in every state in the nation. The honour was announced this week by Ingrid Lemme, founder of the American Dream Town (http://www.americandreamtown.com/press-2004.htm)
With the honour, Maharishi Vedic City will also be featured in the soon-to-be published book "American Dream Towns USA, 2004," which is slated for national and worldwide distribution.
"Maharishi Vedic City fulfils the American dream of a healthy, happy life in a safe, peaceful environment," said Dr. Robert G. Wynne, Mayor of Maharishi Vedic City. "We appreciate this honour and invite everyone in America to come and see for themselves why Maharishi Vedic City received this award."
Maharishi Vedic City is named in honour of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the world's foremost scholar in the Vedic science of prevention. The programs of Maharishi's Vedic Science have been utilized by governments, universities and schools, businesses, and health care systems throughout the world. Maharishi Vedic City is unique because it has incorporated all of Maharishi's programs to promote prevention-oriented, problem-free administration. These programs include:
Vedic Architecture:
"Every home and office building in Maharishi Vedic City is designed
according to Vedic architecture to promote health, happiness, and good
fortune," Mayor Wynne said. "For example, every building faces east, and
has a silent center space called a Brahmasthan."
Vedic Health Care:
"Maharishi Vedic City is probably the healthiest city in America,"
Mayor Wynne said. "Our residents make use of Vedic health care to prevent
disease and promote health. And we are home to the College of Maharishi
Consciousness-Based Health Care of Maharishi University of Management and
the world-renowned Raj Health Center, which provides the prevention-oriented
Maharishi Vedic Approach to Health to guests worldwide."
Vedic Agriculture:
"We recognize the importance of healthy food for our citizens," Mayor
Wynne said. "That is why we have banned the sale of all non-organic food
from our city and have begun construction on the first of a planned 100
acres of greenhouses at Maharishi Vedic City Organic Farms which will grow
healthy, nutritious organic produce for residents of our city and the whole
Midwest."
Vedic Education:
"We recognize that the solution to all problems is proper education
-- education that develops the total brain potential and cosmic creative
intelligence of every student," Mayor Wynne said. "That is why we are proud
that our city and the surrounding area are home to world's flagship educational
institutions based on Vedic Education -- Consciousness-Based Education
-- including Maharishi University of Management, Maharishi School of the
Age of Enlightenment, Maharishi Open University, Maharishi Spiritual University,
and Ideal Girls School. These institutions also offer courses in Consciousness-Based
Education to schools, colleges, and universities throughout the world."
Vedic Administration:
"Maharishi Vedic City is a model of prevention-oriented, problem-free
administration for every city -- large or small -- in the world," Mayor
Wynne said. "To achieve this, we have adopted as our constitution the Constitution
of the Universe, which administers the infinite diversity of the universe
with perfect order."
Vedic Economy:
"The ideal currency of Maharishi Vedic City is the Raam -- the development
currency of the Global Country of World Peace. The City is also planning
to be the future home of Raam Bank," Mayor Wynne said.
Vedic Defence:
"We founded Maharishi Vedic City to become a 'lighthouse of peace'
for America and the world," Mayor Wynne said. "That is why our city is
working to quickly establish a permanent group of peace-creating experts
whose daily practice of Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation and Yogic
Flying techniques will promote coherent national and world consciousness
and thereby prevent any negativity from arising in America or in the family
of nations."

First Vaishnava PhD at Oxford University - England
Congratulations to Krishna Kshetra Dasa, who achieved his PhD at Oxford this month. A disciple of Srila Prabhupada who has preached Krishna consciousness extensively for more than twenty years in Europe, Krishna Kshetra has been studying at Oxford for the past four years.
His 90,000-word doctoral thesis is an exposition of deity worship, both in classical times and modern day. It bears the suitably scholarly title of The Grammar and Poetics of Murti Seva - Chaitanya Vaishnava Image Worship as Discourse, Ritual and Narrative.
He translates sections of the Hari Bhakti Vilasa, the handbook on ritual worship written by Sanatana Goswami under the orders of Lord Caitanya, and explains the relationship between the devotee and the deity with references to modern-day vaishnavas.
Although a very mature student at the age of 54, Krishna Kshetra explains that the academic path is beneficial for those devotees who feel so inclined. His own path of study has been facilitated by the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies, an initiative started by devotees in 1997. Krishna Kshetra will remain at Oxford for a period as a post-doctoral research fellow.
...while over in Cambridge
In the other big university town of Cambridge, Michelle, Marianne, and Aharada have been cooking and serving the most delicious meals to a very grateful, and ever-increasing, number of hungry students. From humble beginnings last year their Monday evening Vegetarian Diners Club has swollen to around 45 customers every week.
For only £3.50 the students can eat all they can, choosing from the range of dishes on offer that week.

Eat Those Fruit and Veggies for a Long Life Span
http://www.rediff.com/news/2003/nov/10un.htm
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL, November 10, 2003: Consuming at least 400 grams of fruit and vegetables each day will ward off heart disease, cancer, Type 2 diabetes and obesity. This statement appeared recently in a published report presented by the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization's Food and Nutrition Division. World Health Organization Director Pekka Ruska reinterates, "There is strong and growing evidence that sufficient consumption of fruits and vegetables helps prevent many diseases and promotes good health, but large parts of the world's population consume too little of these." The article says that both United Nation Agencies, the WHO and the FAO, emphasize that inadequate consumption of fruits and vegetables is estimated to cause some 2.7 million deaths worldwide each year.

Vedic Heritage Still Survives
http://www.swamishyam.org/everyguide-vedicherit.html
The home of this eternal wisdom and universal lifestyle was India. India's ancient name was Bharata, which means,
bhàyàm ratah bhàratah
Being totally dedicated to a way of life
based on divine knowledge.
Even today, the official name of India is Bharata. This name has a great significance. Bharata is the name of a renowned Vedic King born in the Solar Dynasty. He observed the Vedic lifestyle precisely, achieved great wisdom, and eventually attained enlightenment.
In the Vedic Age, whoever adopted the universal way of life to become established in this Supreme wisdom, was called "Arya". Nowadays this term has become misunderstood and manipulated by various groups. The Nazis used it to promote their super-human race, knowing that the Aryans were once the world's most advanced, invincible civilization. Today scholars use this term to denote a race of people coming from the bank of the Danube or the Volga Rivers, or somewhere in Central Asia, who later invaded India. But all of these misconceptions are due to intellectual circumspection devoid of intuitive satoric capacities and Vedic knowledge. Rather than adding anything to the world, they have caused a great havoc.
Aryans were the original residents of India living at the foot of the Himalayas, and the first inhabitants of Earth(1). Over time, people left the country voluntarily to live elsewhere or were banished, populating other areas of the world. Later, masters of this civilization were sent to different parts of the world to help these individuals maintain the Vedic way of life. The renowned Emperor Manu stated,
etaddesaprasùtasya sakàsàdagra janmanah
sve sve charitram sikseran prthivyàh sarva mànavàh
All the inhabitants of the world should receive an education in the Aryan lifestyle from the knowers of Absolute Truth, born in the land of Bharata.
Confusion concerning this expansion of civilization is due to misrepresentations of world history, misconstrued around vested interests and improper interpretation of mystical Sanskrit expressions.
Yet, even with this misrepresentation, the educated West has become aware that the Vedas are the world's most ancient and esoteric literatures. The Vedas form the nucleus around which the Vedic civilization revolved.
The Vedicans or Aryans enjoyed life's richest possibilities in one Intergalactic civilization. Much of the Vedic civilization was either destroyed or converted from approximately the First Century on, by Christian and Moslem zealots, who were out to gain wealth and power in the name of religion. Rulers all over the world have repeatedly obliterated world history with a view to subjugating the masses, since knowledge is power. In this context, thousands of manuscripts have been burned, millions of people tortured, thousands of buildings and cities converted into modern religious sites, with their artifacts buried in the dusts of time. Some famous expungings include:
240 BC: The Chinese Emperor Dic Huyang destroyed all of the books on history and science he had access to;
146 BC: The Romans burnt the Library in Carthage which contained 500,000 manuscripts. It burned for 17 days;
? BC: Library at the Temple of Ptah, the Divine Lord in Memphis was burned destroying many palm-leaf manuscripts;
? : In Asia Minor the library at Peragmus was burnt containing 200,000 texts;
48 BC: Julius Ceaser burned the famous library in Alexandria, Egypt which contained 700,000 manuscripts;
6 BC: Pisistratus in Athens was burnt; only Homer's epics were salvaged;
? : The Bibractis Druid College's Library in Autun, France was destroyed by Roman troops;
? : Emperor Tsin-She Hwangeti of China had thousands of ancient manuscripts burned;
? : Leo Isarus burned down a library of 300,000 volumes in Istanbul;
296 AD: Dioclisian burned a large number of Aegyptian and Greek manuscripts;
312 AD (approximately): The first neo-convert Roman Christian Emperor Constantine swooped down on the Vatican (then Vedican) destroying a number of Vedic manuscripts. It is believed that he also slew the Vedic pontiff and installed a Christian in his place.
1555 AD: A European Christian ruler, Franciso Telod, in Peru destroyed all the records and manuscripts throwing light on the ancient civilization of the Americas in his access.
1600 AD: Bishop Diago de Landa destroyed most of the ancient literature and sacred books of Mexico(2)
1860-1940 AD: British rule in India effectively destroyed the public educational system and robbed thousands of valuable manuscripts, destroying the rest. Even with all of this, there are numerous facts which still point to the glory of the Vedic Age.
Some of these include:
The existence of Vedic calendars extending back thousands of years and more, such as the Yudhistira Calendar(3) wide-spread use of accurate time-measurement and astrological calculations(4); Sanskrit names used all over the world for countries, cities, towns, rivers, and people(5); the existence of ancient Vedic sciences such as Ayurveda(6); Mayasur the oldest architectural text in the world(7); war policies(8); ethics, history, and philosophy(9); mathematics(10); grammar(11); physics(12); and astronomy(13). These ancient Vedic systems parallel and surpass what our modern 21st Century advancements have given us.
In the two Vedic epics of India, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata(14), similar to the Iliad and the Oddysey, capitals are mentioned which were in existence until just recently, or which are still centers of attraction(16). Their traditions, methods of time-measurement, architecture, dressing style, ornamentation, cooking style, and religious observances deeply resemble those of ancient India. This is also true of various parts of ancient Russia, Egypt, Greece, and Japan.
Researchers in the journal of the Polynesian Society, Volumes 13, dated 1904, and 26, dated 1917, state that the Maories (aborigines of Australia) seem to be a branch of ancient Vedic society, as their language is akin to Sanskrit and their deities seem to be from the Vedic pantheon. Another researcher named Treager published a book in 1885 entitled, The Aryan Maori.
In the well spread Vedic civilization of the Golden Age Iran, Asia Minor, and Iraq followed the Vedic way of life. In the second century of the Christian era, Japan, China, and central Asia adopted Buddhism without any violent threats to convert. Buddhism arose from the Vedic civilization. Eastern and Northern Africa were also very close to Vedic living.
Brihadaranyaka Upanisada was written before 3100 BC. It describes an esoteric science called Madhuvidya, expounded by Rishi Dadhichi. He was born forty seven generations before Poutibhasya. If we take even fifty years for one generation, Dadhichi's time goes back to 2350 BC, before Poutibhasya's time, which was 3500 BCE(17). This would indicate that at least five thousand eight hundred fifty years ago, the Vedic civilization existed in its full glory and grace.
In 1000 BCE the Vedic civilization was still predominant in India. At that time India was as large as Europe, excluding Russia. India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Khotan, Burma, Malaya, Thailand, Indonesia, Indochina, Bali, the Philippines, and Simhal were all living the Vedic lifestyle.
Greek ambassador Megasthenes to Emperor Selukas, who lived in Bihar,
India at the end of 400 BCE, wrote:
"India, being of enormous size, is populated by races both numerous
and diverse of which not even one was originally of foreign descent, but
all were indigenous, and more over, that India neither received a colony
from abroad nor sent out a colony to any other nation(18)."

Big Questions About the Big Bang
For years, the big bang theory has been put forward by scientists as the only viable explanation of the origin of universe. But upon closer examination, it appears that the little-publicized shortcomings of the theory may prove to be insurmountable.
PSYCHOLOGY
The Mystery of Consciousness
Consciousness is a fact of life: we all have it. But can modern science, within its current mechanistic framework, explain it? It appears not. More...
BIOLOGY
Life from Chemicals: Fact or Fantasy?
In Darwin's time, scientists thought the living cell to be no more than a simple bag of chemicals. They could readily imagine that the first such cell might have spontaneosly evolved from a mixture of organic chemicals. But as modern biochemical research uncovers the incredible complexity of even the simplest microorganisms, it is not so clear that chemical evolution is adequate to explain the origin of life.
EVOLUTION THEORY
A New Look At Evolution
Certain types of evidence have traditionally been cited as proof for the idea that one species gives rise to another by purely physical processes. But upon critical examination, it appears the same evidence can be used to show that intelligent design may have played a part in the origin of species.
PALEONTOLOGY
The Record of the Rocks
According to the scientific establishment, the "fact" of evolution is clearly evident in the fossil record. But is appears that the record of the rocks has been carefully edited to support current evolutionary theory.
PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE
Higher Dimensional Science
At a time when the attempt to explain everything in the universe in terms of simple physical laws is proving unsuccessful, the need for a new strategy of scientific investigation is becoming more and more apparent.

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. All glories to Sri Panca-tattva.
We are starting a new conference called Panca-tattva Nectar on PAMHO, so devotees can share their realizations and memories of the recent festival in Mayapur.
During the course of conversations, it was realized that there are so many stories out there, so many different understandings and realizations, so many small and big incidents to share, that we should endeavor to record them all and share them amongst everyone who wants to hear.
Last night, in the Deity Sewing Room upstairs from Sri Panca-tattva's altar, HG Jananivas prabhu was talking with Ramadevi mataji, the Deities' seamstress, along with Lilasamayi devi (from Italy) and Jalangi devi (from China), and myself, and there were endless stories, just between the four of us. We realized that these stories should be shared. Ramadevi suggested a conference, and Jananivas prabhu said it was a wonderful idea, so this is what we are now doing.
Please share the news with others in your zone who have returned from Mayapur, and those who did not come to Mayapur but who want to share the nectar. So many things have happened in the lives of so many devotees since the arrival of Sri Panca-tattva. It is obvious that we are entering a new phase in ISKCON, and these stories are an encouragement and an inspiration to everyone. Please write in to the conference and share the mercy...

HRISIKESH - The Motion Picture
Date: Tue, 09 Mar 2004 01:35:45 -0000
Srila Prabhupada Coming To The Silver Screen
BY EX ORIENTE LUX
USA, Mar 5 (VNN) HRISIKESH - The Motion Picture of Life Times
The extra-ordinary life story of Srila Prabhupada disciple Hrisikesa dasa is set for the Silver Screen. The 600 page pre-production Script is completed and Asia's Pacific Film Works (20th Century Fox) has given the green light. The 6th Sense director M. Night Shyamalan is under consideration to direct the movie, which will be filmed on location using local production services in California, London, Nepal, India, Thailand, and Bali.
In the movie, tentatively named Hrisikesh, His Divine Grace is a major character. Srila Prabhupada may be played by famous Indian actor, Amrish Puri (who looks very much like Srila Prabhupada). Ben Kingsley may play HDG Srila Bon Maharaj. Josh Hartnett is under consideration to play Hrisikesh. Within two years the movie may be seen on main line cinemas around the globe. Featured in this movie are reincarnation, Krishna consciousness, Srila Prabhupada, Srila Bon Maharaj, Gaudiya Vaishnava Ashram life, Gaudiya siddhanta (mostly question and answer), the subplot of tug-of-war between Srila Prabhupada and Srila Bon Maharaj is also a feature. It is also a Rock 'n' Roll movie about The Misunderstood, it is a fugitive - escape movie, it is a culture shock movie, it is a war movie, and it is a thriller!!!
First he gets murdered, then his adventure begins: This movie begins in 1947 with Hrisikesh as an 80 year old sadhu getting shot during partition riots and then reborn in America as Richard Shaw-Brown. It features Hrisikesh as a rock 'n' roll star fugitive meeting devotees in San Francisco (1967) and becoming a disciple of Srila Prabhupada; it also features the philosophy of Lord Chaitanya, and the early days of the Hare Krishna Movement, also featured will be Vrindavan, and Mount Govardhan, and Varshana, and Nandagram, and Jaipur, and Karoli, and Delhi, and Bombay, and swinging 60s London, the extraordinarily great band, The Misunderstood, and it's unfair plight and super music, and exotic Bali; also the Vietnam draft and Boot Camp (with Uncle Sam demonized as the Devil and Vietnam war as hell), state of the art technology will be used to create FX reincarnation scenes that will be a roller-coaster ride for the viewers, Shyamasundar & Mukunda Maharaj are chief characters, as is Srila Krishna Das Babaji; it is also a Katmandu movie, a 1967 Summer of Love hippy movie, and an ANTI-WAR MOVIE! It is a story of East meets West.
To read a synopsis click http://www.hrisikesh.net/Synopsis.htm Richard Shaw Brown, who co-wrote the screenplay, will be a consultant in several countries to help with the story boards and other details of costumes, procedures, etc.
This is a 1st for Srila Prabhupada himself to be featured in a big budget Hollywood movie. And on the pretext of telling Hrisikesa's story, Lord Krishna's philosophy is revealed. Password holders are welcome to download the entire script as a pdf.file before it goes beyond pre-production and a line producer breaks it up into lighting script, cameras script, sets script, costumes script, above and below the line actors scripts, make up script, locations script, etc. This film should be a BIG boost for Gaudiya Vaishnavism, and help make Srila Prabhupada much more famous. Just as Mel Gibsons's Passion is reviving so much interest in Christ, so Hrisikesh can create a global revival of Srila Prabhupada and Gaudiya Siddhanta.

Condolences
Long standing Iskcon Wellington supporter and devotee Mr Mohan Musadilal passed away. He was a regular at the Sunday feast prior to his illness Mr Mohan Musadilal passed away on Wednesday 7 April 2004 at the ripe age of 75 years due to long term illness.
Mohan is survived by his good wife's Srimati Ram Dulari Musadi Lal, and two grand children. Their daughter Revathi died of cancer about 5 years ago, that leaves Nev Gajadhar (son-in-law), Nitasha Gajadhar (grand daughter), Sandeep Gajadhar (grand son).
Bhagavad Gita clearly states 9:31, declare it boldly that My devotee never perishes.

“As a person puts on new garments, giving up old ones, the soul similarly accepts new material bodies, giving up the old and useless ones”. (Bhagavad Gita 2:22.)
The body is just like an outer dress. When a suit becomes old, we give it up and accept another suit; similarly the soul is changing dresses according to desire and necessity

“For the soul there is neither birth nor death. Nor, having once been, does he ever cease to be. It is unborn, eternal, ever-existing, undying, and primeval. The soul is not slain when the body is slain.” “The soul can never be cut to pieces by any weapon, nor burned by fire, nor moistened by water, nor withered by the wind”. (Bhagavad Gita 2:23.)
“It is said that the soul is invisible, inconceivable and immutable. Knowing this, you should not grieve for the body.” (Bhagavad Gita 2:25.)
That is why we have such a method of sanctified disposal of the body according to religious principles.
“In this material nature, everything is created, it stays for some time, produces some by-products, dwindles, and finally vanishes. Our bodies are created at a certain moment by sexual intercourse. The semen of the father emulsifies and takes a pea (seed like) form, and the living entity, or soul, takes shelter in that form, and because it takes shelter, it develops hands, legs, eyes, etc. This development is complete in the seventh month, and in the ninth month the human being comes out of the womb. It is because the soul is present that the child develops. If the soul is not present, there is no development, and the child is born dead. We can take this dead body and preserve it in chemicals, but it will not develop. Development means change of body. All of us have had baby bodies, but those bodies are no longer existing. The body of a baby develops into the body of a child, and that body develops into the body of a boy (or girl), and that body develops into a youth’s body, which eventually turns into an old man’s (old Woman’s) body. Finally the body completely vanishes.”.(SSR 7. Exploring the Spiritual Frontier.)
I’m sure we can all recollect. But who is it that who recollects? The soul. The body is changed. It is not we, the soul, who has changed, only the external covering the body. The body is changed, but the soul is the same and therefore any one of us, all of us can recollect.
“Unlike the bodily changes, there is no change in the soul.”(B.G. 2:25 purport.) For the soul is spiritual by nature.

“One who has taken his birth is sure to die, and after death one is sure to take birth again. Therefore, in the unavoidable discharge of your duty, you should not lament.” (Bhagavad Gita 2:27.)
“One has to take birth according to one’s activities of life. And after finishing one term of activities, one has to die to take birth for the next. In this way one is going through one cycle of birth and death after another without liberation.” (B.G. 2:27. Purport ex.)

“All created beings are unmanifest in their beginning, manifest in their interim state, and unmanifest again when annihilated. So what need is there for lamentation?” (Bhagavad Gita 2:28.)
“Some look on the soul as amazing, some describe him as amazing, and some hear of him as amazing, while others, even after hearing about him, cannot understand him at all.” (Bhagavad Gita 2:29.)
That person, who we loved so dear, is different from the body, which we again commit to the elements, and so we should not lament. The body is animated by life, given by our eternal Father, God. The only difference between a live body and that of a dead one is the absence of the life force – that is who we miss. Otherwise we would take home these bodily remains, and keep them in her favourite chair…….
The person is sometimes compared to the air (for both are invisible to the untrained eye). As air passes over different situations it collects some of the attributes of that which it associates. Sometimes air smells fragrant when it passes over a bed of roses, or some nice cooking, and other times it does not smell nice.
Similarly the soul, by association with different qualities, the things he or she chooses to do, becomes known as either a good or bad person.
In this temporal world all beings are like the flotsam and jetsam on the sea’s shore, for some time we come together, we stay, make our families, and then again depart. As we come into this world with nothing, also we take nothing but our lessons, experiences, and feelings with us. Everything that we’ve accumulated in this lifetime remains here. Further proving that we are not of that, nor is that the main thing in life.
But as I’ve tried to convey here, there is no need to lament for such an eternal being.
Rather, we need to wish them well. Pray for their salvation, that they may receive proper guidance and help, to send them on their way, to more favourable circumstances by which he/she/they may have the opportunity to understand the meaning of life, having given up this old situation in peace.
So, now as we send him on their way, let us wish them well, let there be no harboured ill feelings, or grudges, and let us remember, and treasure all the good things that we will continue to love them for, and wish them well for their future.
So doing in the name of Lord, we humbly ask for His blessings.
Srila A.C, Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada writes in Srimad-Bhagavatam 7:9:52 purport : ". ....It is not very extraordinary that the Lord offered His devotee all benedictions. The Supreme Personality of Godhead said in effect, 'I fulfill the desires of everyone. Since you are My devotee, whatever you want for yourself will naturally be given, but if you pray for anyone else, that prayer also will be fulfilled.' Thus if we approach the Supreme Lord or His devotee, naturally we will automatically achieve the benedictions of the Supreme Lord...."

2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
2 tablespoons tamari/shoyu
1 teaspoon Wright's (or other brand) liquid smoke.
1 tablespoon oil (something neutral, not olive
or sesame)
Directions:
Fry tofu strips on low or medium heat until they are crispy on the
outside. The best way to do this is to lay them in the pan in the oil and
let them sit for at least 10 minutes, simmering. They should turn easily
after that. Turn them and give them another 10 minutes on the other side.
Mix the tamari/shoyu soy sauce with the liquid smoke first, then take the pan off the heat. Pour the liquid smoke/tamari into the pan and stir the tofu so all sides are coated, then sprinkle the yeast over all, stir some more, over the heat, until the liquid is gone and the tofu is covered with sticky yeast.
Try it. It tastes EXACTLY like bacon.
Another variation is to marinate the tofu in the tamari/liquid smoke mixture for several hours and then fry, but it misses a little bit without the nutritional yeast.

Offering our food to Krishna:
....excerpt from lecture by HDG Srila A.C.
Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada - Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.3.1-3 -- San Francisco,
March 28, 1968
The Vedic literature says like this, that God has no leg, no hand. Therefore the impersonalists take advantage of it. "Oh, here it is stated God has no legs, no hands." But the next line is, javana grhita: "He can accept everything which you offer Him in devotion."
Now how He can accept? If He has no hand, how He can accept things from us? That means He hasn't got a hand like us. His hand is different. Therefore even though He is situated in the spiritual world, which is far, far away from us, still, He says in the Bhagavad-gita, it is said,
patram puspam phalam toyam
yo me bhaktya prayacchati
tad aham bhakty-upahrtam
asnami prayatatmanah
Krsna says that "A little flower or little water or a little leaf, whatever My devotee offers Me in love and devotion, I accept it." And tad aham bhakty-upahrtam. "And because he has brought it with great devotion, therefore I eat." Tad aham bhakty-upahrtam asnami. Asnami means "I eat." Now you can say, "All right, I'll offer these fruits and flower to God, but it is the same. It is remaining. How He is eating?" But His eating is not like my eating, because He hasn't got a body like this. This body is material. If you bring me a plate of fruits, this body immediately swallows it. But He has got spiritual body. He eats... Simply as soon as He knows that you have offered it in devotion, He eats immediately.
Go here to follow the simple system for offering
foodstuffs to the Lord

Four Wives parable:
http://www.hknet.org.nz/4wives.pps
- From the Nectar by HH Satsvarupa Dasa Goswami
One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway, it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey. He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They each grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement, he quieted down.
A few shovel loads later, the farmer looked down the well, and was astonished at what he saw. As every shovel of dirt hit his back, the donkey did something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed, as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and trotted off.
The Moral:
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to
getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of
our troubles a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just
by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up!
Remember the five simple rules to be happy
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.
O.K., that's enough of that B.S. ... The donkey later came back, caught the farmer out in the field and kicked the crap out of him. Then he went over to each of his neighbors farms and kicked the crap out of them too for helping.
The REAL Moral
When you try to cover your ass, it always comes back to get you.
The guests in the front pews responded with ripples of laughter. Even the priest smiled broadly.
As her father gave her away in marriage, the bride gave him back his credit card.
"Good morning," said the young man. "If I could take a couple minutes of your time, I would like to demonstrate the very latest in high-powered vacuum cleaners."
"Oh give me a break" said the old lady. "I haven't got any money" and
she proceeded to close the door.
Quick as a flash, the young man wedged is foot in the door and pushed
it wide open.
"Don't be too hasty!" he said. "Not until you have at least seen my demonstration." And with that, he emptied a bucket of Horse stool all over her hallway carpet.
"If this vacuum cleaner does not remove all traces of this Horse stool from your carpet, Madam, I will personally eat the stool myself."
"Well," she said, "I hope you've got a good appetite because the electricity was cut off this morning."
Moral to be learned:
Don't be too quick to force your ideas on others without knowing their
circumstances.
The clergyman silently sizzled, then said in anguished tones, "Will a layman please make some appropriate remarks?"
Did you ever wonder?
In my sociology class, we were instructed to write down answers to
some questions the teacher was asking.
"Next question," announced the instructor. "How would you like to be seen by the opposite sex?"
I was thinking about my answer when the young woman next to me turned and asked, "How do you spell 'intellectual'?"

The ways of this material world - strange but true
Many assistants were dispatched at different times. "You go sip here" and "You go sip there".
The two words "go sip" were eventually combined when referring to the local opinion and, thus we have the term "gossip".
The rascal wanted to continue living in their downtown luxury apartment
with his new lover so he asked his wife to move out and get another place.
His wife agreed to this, provided that he would give her 3 days alone
at the apartment to pack up her things.
She spent the first day packing her belongings into boxes, crates and suitcases. On the second day, she had the movers come and collect her things. Not being a devotee, on the third day, she sat down for the last time at their beautiful dining table by candlelight, put on some soft background music, and feasted on a pound of shrimp and a bottle of Chardonnay alone. When she had finished, she went into each room and deposited a few of the half-eaten shrimp shells into the hollow of the curtain rods. She then cleaned up the kitchen and left.
When the husband returned with his new girlfriend, all was bliss for the first few days. Then slowly the apartment began to smell. They tried everything; cleaning & mopping and airing the place out. Vents were checked for dead rodents, carpets were steam cleaned. Air fresheners were hung everywhere.
Exterminators were brought in to set off gas canisters, during which they had to move out for a few days, and in the end they even paid to replace the expensive carpet.
Finally, they could not take it any longer and decided to move. They could not find a buyer for their stinky apartment so they had to borrow a huge sum of money from the bank to purchase a new place. The moving company arrived and did a very professional packing job, taking everything to their new home ...........................................including the curtain rods.
Thanks to Pauline UK for that one
The Lamaze teacher then dropped a pen and asked the husband to pick it up.
"You want me to pick up the pen as if I were pregnant, the way my wife would do it" the husband asked.
"Exactly," replied the instructor.
To the delight of the other husbands, he turned to his wife and said, "Honey, pick up that pen for me."
"What can I do for you!?"
"I would like to speak to the master of the house."
"Well," said the man, "...you have come at a most opportune time.
My wife and I are settling that question right now!"
There's still "incurable romantics" out there.........
we need better antibiotics.
