"New Millinium Travelling Festival"
HH Indradyumna Swami has asked me to
inform all of you regarding
the details of the upcoming travelling
festival program on the
South Island of New Zealand. We welcome
as many devotees as would
like to come.
The travelling festival will take place
from January 10th - 30th.
The theme will be 'Spiritual Solutions
to Material Problems'.
We will be meeting various dignitaries
and VIPs along the way to
offer guidance and advice for a new
millenium.
To keep costs down and make everything
simple and easy, we will
generally be staying in public campings.
Devotees are expected to
bring their own tents and pay for
their own fees at the camping sites.
In a couple of places (ie: Christchurch
and Dunedin) we will organize
devotee's and friends' homes for free
accomodation.
Devotees must also make their own travel
arrangements. We expect many
devotees to travel by public transportion
from place to place (bus).
In order to make bookings for campings,
we need to know by December
10th (at the latest) exactly how many
adults and children will
be coming ...and for how many days.
It is very important that you
contact me on, or before this date,
if you plan to come. We cannot
guarantee that late reservations will
be accepted.
Everyone who joins us will be asked
to contribute $5 per day for
prasadam, children under 12 will be
free of charge.
We will have incense, blissballs and
stickers available for
distribution, if you need to raise
funds as you go.
All devotees will be required to do
menial tasks to help with
the general running of the festival;
cleaning duties, kitchen
service, bhoga shopping, etc.
Devotees will also be expected to strictly
follow a devotional
morning program.
The planned itinerary is as follows.

Finding Spiritual Solutions to Material Problems
Lieutenant Mozee: Do you have any feelings
about crime here in the
United States as opposed to the crime
in your own country of India?
Srila Prabhupäda: What is your definition of crime?
Lieutenant Mozee: Any trampling on
the rights of one person by another
person.
Srila Prabhupäda: Yes. Our definition
is the same. In the Upanishads
it is said, ishäväsyam idam
sarvam: “ Everything belongs to God.” So,
everyone has the right to utilize
whatever is allotted to him by God,
but one may not encroach upon others’
property. if one does so, he
becomes a criminal. Actually the first
crime is that you Americans are
thinking this land of America is yours.
Although two hundred years ago
it was not yours, you have come from
other parts of the world and
claimed it as your land. Actually
it is God’s land, and therefore it
belongs to everyone, since everyone
is a child of God. But the vast
majority of people have no conception
of God. Practically speaking,
everyone is godless. Therefore they
should be educated to love God.
In America, your government has a
slogan: “in God we trust.” Is that
correct?
Lieutenant Mozee: Yes.
Srila Prabhupäda: But where is
the education about God? To trust is
very good, but simple trust will not
endure unless it is backed up
with scientific knowledge of God.
One may know that he has a father,
but unless he knows who his father
is, his knowledge is imperfect.
And that education in the science
of God is lacking.
Lieutenant Mozee: Do you feel that
it’s lacking only here in the
United States?
Srila Prabhupäda: No. Everywhere.
The age we live in is called
Kali-yuga, the age of forgetting God.
It is an age of
misunderstanding and quarrel, and
the people’s hearts are filled
with dirty things. But God is so powerful
that if we chant His
holy name we become purified, just
as my disciples have become
purified of their bad habits. Our
movement is based on this principle
of chanting the holy name of God.
We give everyone the opportunity,
without any distinction. They can
come to our temple, chant the Hare
Krsna mantra, take a little prasädam
as refreshment, and gradually
become purified. So if the governmental
authorities give us some
facilities, then we can hold mass
sankirtana. Then, without a doubt,
the whole society will change.
Lieutenant Mozee: If I understand you
correctly, sir, you are saying
that we should emphasize a return
to religious principles.
Srila Prabhupäda: Certainly. Without
religious principles what is
the difference between a dog and a
man? Man can understand religion,
but a dog cannot. That is the difference.
So if human society remains
on the level of dogs and cats, how
can you expect a peaceful society?
If you bring a dozen dogs and put
them together in a room, will it
be possible to keep them peaceful?
Similarly, if human society is
filled with men whose mentality is
on the level of dogs, how can you
expect peace?
Lieutenant Mozee: If some of my questions
sound disrespectful, it
is only because I do not completely
understand your religious beliefs.
I mean no disrespect whatsoever.
Srila Prabhupäda: No, it is not
a question of my religious beliefs.
I am simply pointing out the distinction
between human life and
animal life. Animals cannot possibly
learn anything about God,
but human beings can. However, if
human beings are not given the
facility to learn about God, then
they remain on the level of cats
and dogs. You cannot have peace in
a society of cats and dogs.
Therefore, it is the duty of the governmental
authorities to see that
people are taught how to become God
conscious. Otherwise, there will
be trouble, because without God consciousness
there is no difference
between a dog and a man: the dog eats,
we eat; the dog sleeps, we
sleep; a dog has sex, we have sex;
a dog tries to defend itself,
and we also try to defend ourselves.
These are the common factors.
The only difference is that a dog
cannot be instructed about his
relationship with God, but a man can.(A.C.
Bhaktivedanta Swami
Prabhupad. discussion with Lt. Mozee.
Science of Self Realisation
Book Chapter 6.)

"Hold your horses" is a very interesting
term. The senses are compared
to horses in the Upanishads.
Therefore we should "Hold our horses."
How are they held? By good
intelligence through the medium of
the mind. Whenever we see some
object of enjoyment, these horses
rush at it, wanting to enjoy.
The horses are controlled by the intelligence
gained from the association
of devotees who are well versed in,
and fixed in the life-style
Srila Prabhupada's books.

SIMPLE EKADASI STYLE SOUFFLÉ:
3 cups milk powder
3 cups white sugar
250 grms unsalted butter melted.
A pinch of allspice
A pinch of ground cloves
A pinch of cinnamon powdered
A pinch of cardamom powdered.
Mix all together and roll mixture out into a tray.
Alternately you can add walnuts, pecans,

Or you can make into balls like simply

There once was a young brahminical
priest
Who ate up some bread made with yeast,
Then he got on a jet liner
And travelled to China,
Determined to rise in the East.
------------------------------------------------------------------
In some traditions they say prayers
before eating their food. And
when you look at what they eat it's
not surprising. In Krsna
consciousness however we also say
a prayer but asking to control
the tongue so we don't over do it,
and then in love relish what we
have as Krsna prasadam, the Lord's
mercy.
------------------------------------------------------------------
We were all siting taking prasadam,
when one devotee who had just
come back from India started telling
of some of his encounters.
You know the East is so mysterious,
and did you know there
are still so many practicing mystics.
Once when we went down to Kerala
we found this old temple, must have
been at least ten thousand years
old by the smoothness of the stone.
Anyway there was this really old
baba there. He seemed to be maintaining
the temple, because there was
incense bellowing out from near the
altar, and no-one else was around.
It appeared that the old man
couldn't walk because he was
supported by two crutches. He was
very unsteady and his legs looked
all knarled. He stood there praying,
and chanting sacred mantras in
what must have been Malalaylam. After
an hour or so, he suddenly
threw away one of his crutches. Then
he stood there for another half
an hour praying, after which he got
really excited and threw away the
other one of the crutches.
"Then what, .......Then what,......",
all the devotees asked in
anticipation.
"Well what happened then?" he continued.
" ......was the poor old
baba fell flat on his face!"

Once there was a brahmin who was going
to pass stool. He went to the
field wrapped his brahmin thread around
his right ear and began to
pass. He then cleaned himself and
was about to walk away. When he
turned and did the unthinkable, he
looked at the stool. "Yuk", he
cried. To his surprise the stool spoke
to him as follows. "Don't you
say Yuk, how dare you, until I came
in contact with you I was Maha
Prasadam."
