That understanding which considers

darkness, and strives always in the
wrong direction, O Partha, is
in the mode of ignorance.
PURPORT by HDG Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta
Swami Prabhupad:
Intelligence in the mode of ignorance
is always working the
opposite of the way it should. It
accepts religions which are not
actually religions and rejects actual
religion. Men in ignorance
understand a great soul to be a common
man and accept a common man
as a great soul. They think truth
to be untruth and accept untruth
as truth. In all activities they simply
take the wrong path;
therefore their intelligence is in
the mode of ignorance.

God is, in truth, the whole universe:
what was, what is and what's beyond,
and shall ever be. He is the God of
life immortal and of all life that lives
by food. His hands and feet are everywhere.
He has heads and mouths
everywhere. He sees all, He hears
all. He is in all, and He Is.

Hundreds of Thousands Witness Puri
Car festival
Source: http://www.hindustantimes.com/nonfram/240601/detNAT07.asp
PURI, INDIA, June 23, 2001: Over 800,000
devotees witnessed the famous car
festival of Lord Jagannath, His elder
brother Lord Balabhadra and sister
Goddess Subhadra in the pilgrim town
of Puri on Saturday. The downpour and
power failure on Friday night didn't
deter devotees who thronged to
celebrate the annual sojourn of the
Lord. The "Mangala Arati" of the deities
started at about 5:00 am and was followed
by other rituals. The festival
then witnessed one of its finest moments
when the three deities were brought
out of the temple to their respective
chariots in a spectacular procession
called "Pahandi." The Shankaracharya
of Gobardhan Peetha, Puri, Swami
Neeschalananda Saraswati, was the
first to have a "darshan," or sight, of
the three deities on their chariots.
There was a mad scramble to hold the
ropes of the chariots, a lifetime
wish of the devotees who had come from all
corners of the country and abroad
to witness the famous festival.

Tracing the Synapses of Spirituality
Source: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A8545-2001Jun15.html
PHILADELPHIA, USA, June 17, 2001: What
creates that transcendental feeling
of being one with the universe? Scientists
are asking whether spirituality
can be explained in terms of neural
networks, neurotransmitters and brain
chemistry. Using powerful brain imaging
technology, researchers are
exploring what mystics call nirvana,
and what Christians describe as a state
of grace. In an experiment to recreate
a spiritual experience in the brain,
a volunteer wears headgear that produces
an electromagnetic pattern on a
computer program. "The brain is set
up in such a way as to have spiritual
and religious experiences," said Andrew
Newberg, a Philadelphia scientist
who authored the book "Why God Won't
Go Away." "Unless there is a
fundamental change in the brain, religion
and spirituality will be here for
a very long time. The brain is predisposed
to having those experiences and
that is why so many people believe
in God."

Like a tortoise withdrawing five limbs
into its shell, those who
Restrain the five senses in one life,
will find safe shelter for seven.
Whatever you may fail to guard, guard
well your tongue,
For flawed speech unfailingly invokes
anguish and affliction.
By a single word of injury
Do all a man's virtues lose their
goodness.
The wound caused by fire heals in
its time;
The burn inflicted by an inflamed
tongue never heals.

LESSONS FROM TREES
It's important to have roots.
In today's complex world, it pays
to branch out.
If you really believe in something,
don't be afraid to
go out on a limb.
Be flexible so you don't break when
a harsh wind blows.
Sometimes you have to shed your old
bark in order to grow.
If you want to maintain accurate records,
keep a log.
It's okay to be a late bloomer.
Avoid people who would like to cut
you down.
As you approach the autumn of your
life, you will show your true colors.
You could be Brilliant! in other words
"bloom where you are planted."

"Astronomical calculations of stellar
influences upon a living being are
not suppositions, but are factual,
as confirmed in Srimad-Bhagavatam. Every
living being is controlled by the
laws of nature at every minute, just as a
citizen is controlled by the influence
of the state. The state laws are
grossly observed, but the laws of
material nature, being subtle to our
gross understanding, cannot be experienced
grossly. As stated in the
Bhagavad-gita (3.9), every action
of life produces another reaction, which
is binding upon us, and only those
who are acting on behalf of Yajna
(Vishnu) are not bound by reactions.
Our actions are judged by the higher
authorities, the agents of the Lord,
and thus we are awarded bodies
according to our activities. The law
of nature is so subtle that every part
of our body is influenced by the respective
stars, and a living being
obtains his working body to fulfill
his terms of imprisonment by the
manipulation of such astronomical
influence." (Srimad Bhagavatam 1:12:12)

Emotional Wellness
Forgive Their Trespasses - moving on.............
Science is beginning to verify advice
long given by spiritual
leaders and wise moms and dads: Nursing
grudges against those
who have done you wrong will hurt
you worse than it hurts them.
New work shows it can contribute to
emotional problems and even
heart disease. June 17 to 23 was National
Forgiveness Week,
an ideal time to work at finding it
in your heart to save your
heart by forgiving those who've trespassed
against you.

Some animals like to get down in the
mud and start throwing it at those who hurt them.
But all that happens is that you get
covered in their muck, and the pigs have a real good time.

A man traveling down a country road
in Queenstown after a major storm was forced to stop before a giant stream
covering the entire road. Looking to the side of the road, the man noticed
a beautiful blonde woman who had come down her lane to check the mailbox.
"Think it's safe to cross?" the man
asked.
"Sure it is" she replied.
On her "local knowledge" he drove the car into the waters. The car was immediately swallowed by the water as the man drove in. In fact, it was so deep that he had to roll his window down to swim out of his car back to the surface.
As his head broke the surface the man said to the woman, "I thought you said I could safely drive through this!"
"Well,!" said the woman, scratching her head. "It only comes up chest-high on my ducks!"
MORAL:
Never test the water with both feet.
I'm sure you'll think of others..........

A skinhead and his girlfriend were
walking down Main Street when she spotted a beautiful diamond ring in a
jewelry store window. "Wow, I'd sure love to have that!" she said.
"No problem, babe," the skinhead said,
throwing a brick through the glass and grabbing the ring.
A few blocks later, his girlfriend
was admiring a black leather jacket in another shop window. "Wow, what
I'd give to own that!" she said.
"Sure fing, darlin'," the skinhead said, throwing another brick through the window and snatching the coat.
Finally, turning for home, they pass a Mercedes car dealership. "Boy, I'd do anything for one of those!" she said to her boyfriend.
"Whoa, hang on babe!" the skinhead
cried. "Do you fink I'm made a bricks or somefing!"

A traveler was stumbling through the
desert, desperate for water, when he saw something far off in the distance.
Hoping to find water, he walked toward the image, only to find a little old peddler sitting at a card table with a bunch of ties laid out for sale.
The parched wanderer asked, "Please, I'm dying of thirst, can I have some water?"
The man replied "I don't have any water, but why don't you buy a tie? Here's one that goes nicely with your clothes."
The desperate man shouted, "I don't want a tie, you idiot, I need water!"
"OK, don't buy a tie. But to show you what a nice guy I am, I'll tell you that over that hill there, about 5 miles, is a nice restaurant. Walk that way, they'll give you all the water you want."
The man thanked the peddler and walked away toward the hill and eventually disappeared out of sight. Three hours later he returned. The man at the card table asked, "I told you, about 5 miles over that hill. Couldn't you find it?"
"I found it all right. They wouldn't
let me in without a tie."

The Cowboy
A cowboy rode into town and stopped
at a saloon for a drink of soda. Unfortunately, the locals always had a
habit of picking on strangers. When he finished his drink, he found his
horse had been stolen. He goes back into the bar, flips his gun into the
air, catches it above his head without even looking and fires a shot into
the ceiling."WHICH ONE OF YOU SIDEWINDERS STOLE MY HOSS?"
he yelled with surprising forcefulness.
No one answered.
"ALRIGHT, I'M GONNA HAVE ANOTHER DRINK,
AND IF MY HOSS AIN'T BACK OUTSIDE BY THE TIME I FINISH, I'M GONNA DO WHAT
I DONE IN TEXAS! ......AND I DON'T LIKE TO HAVE TO DO WHAT I DONE IN TEXAS!"
Some of the locals shifted restlessly.
He had another drink of soda, walked outside, and his horse is back! He
saddles-up and starts to ride out of town. The bartender wanders out of
the bar and asks, "Say pardner, before you go...
...what happened in Texas?"
The cowboy turned back and said, "I
had to walk home."
MORAL:
There's an interesting story of Narada
Muni initiating a cobra, snake. Narada had accepted the cobra as a disciple,
and at his initiation ceremony the snake had promised to follow the four
regulative principles. But Narada Muni requested one more discipline of
him, and said: "Don't bite anyone."
Having heard the snake wouldn't bite
anyone any more, all the children started throwing sticks and stones at
him, and calling him bad names and generally abusing him as he slithered
through town the next day. The snake returned to Narada Muni's ashrama
that evening and a bit upset, complained about the children taunting him.
Narada Muni chastised his unique disciple,
saying, "I instructed you not to bite, but I didn't tell you to give up
your intelligence! If the children come near you again, simply show your
hood like you are going to bite... then they'll all run away!"

parking her car in a restricted area.
The judge asked her if she had anything
to say in her defense.
"They should not put up such misleading notices", said Santa.
"It said, FINE FOR PARKING HERE."

There was an old professor who started
every class with a vulgar joke.
After one particularly nasty example,
Two of the women in the class
(Emmy and Ella) decided to walk out
the next time he started.
The professor got wind of this plot
(Baku told him), so the next morning
he walked in and said, "Good morning,
class. Did you hear the one about
the shortage of prostitutes in India?"
With that, Emmy and Ella stood up and headed for the door.
"Wait, ladies," cried the professor.
"The next plane doesn't leave until
tomorrow!"

One devotee said it was pronounced
Vrindavan which the other was adament

Just then a well known pandit of the
Vallabha sampradaya came by, and the
first devotee couldn't help but ask,
"...is it Vrindavan or Brindavan?"
The pandit responded, "Windavan !!!" To which they were both surprised.
"Panditji, how is that possible?"
"It Wearly depends on your Wesidence.
That's all ! I can go now, thank you Wery much"

CAUTION: Alligator Warning
DUE TO THE EXTREME DROUGHT IN FLORIDA,
THE FOLLOWING CAUTION HAS BEEN ISSUED
BY THE DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE
...
The Florida Department of Fish and
Wildlife is advising hikers, hunters,
fishers, and golfers to take extra
precautions and keep alert for alligators
while in Seminole, Osceola, Polk,
Orange, Brevard, Manatee, Sarasota, St.
Lucie, Martin, and Palm Beach Counties.
They advise people to wear noise-producing
devices such as little bells on
their clothing to alert but not startle
the alligators. It is also a good
idea to watch for fresh signs of alligator
activity.
People should recognize the difference
between the droppings of small young
alligators and large adult alligators.
Young alligator droppings are smaller
and contain fish bones, small turtle
shells and possibly bird feathers.
Adult alligator droppings have little bells in them.

ONE LAST COOKIE?
This elderly man was at home, dying
in bed.
He smelled the aroma of his favourite
cookies baking. He wanted one last cookie before he died. He fell out of
bed, crawled to the landing, rolled down the stairs, and crawled into the
kitchen where his wife was busily baking cookies. With waning strength
he crawled to the table and was just barely able to lift his withered arm
to the cookie sheet.
As he grasped a warm, moist, Anzac
cookie, his favourite kind, his wife suddenly whacked his hand with a spatula.
"Why did you do that?" he whispered.
"They're not offered yet, and besides
they're for the funeral" she replied.

MOSQUITOS
Have you ever been in this situation:
It's a hot humid night and you are having a hard time getting to sleep.
You are moving your pillow around trying to find the "cool spot." You finally
get comfortable, and then you hear that familiar "Bzzzzzzzzt." Yes, there
is a mosquito flying around your head. You jump up and begin to swat around
trying to knock it out of the air. . .
What is the point of this little story.
What you evidently didn't know is that the female mosquito is the quiet
one that bites and sucks your blood to feed her young, and the male mosquito
is the one that makes the buzzing sound. So next time you are having trouble
sleeping and you just get comfortable, listen closely and if you hear a
"Bzzzzzzzzt" just go to sleep. But if you hear nothing you'd better get
up and start swatting. ( ??? )

What Breed Is That?
After buying a puppy for $40 from a
stranger, Bruno Alti of Milan, Italy couldn't
help wondering why the dog never barked.
He took the pet to his local vet who
quickly spotted the problem and informed
Alti that what he had bought wasn't
a dog, but a lion cub.

Doctor to patient:
I have good news and bad news: the
good news is that you are not a hypochondriac.
----------------------------------------------------------------
There are three signs of old age.
The first is your loss of memory, the other two I forget....
---------------------------------------------------------------
"When I was a boy of fourteen, my
father was so
ignorant I could hardly stand to have
the old man around.
But when I got to be twenty-one, I
was astonished by how
much he'd learned in seven years."
- Mark Twain.
----------------------------------------------------------------
A sign of the times:
When my son was in third grade, his
teacher
asked him to spell "straight." He
did so correctly.
"Now," said the teacher, "what does
it mean?"
"Without water," he replied.
----------------------------------------------------------------
I'm lost .........
But now I've gone to look for myself.
If I should return here in the interim
before I get back home, please ask me to wait =>:-))
