TRANSLATION
From the mode of goodness, real knowledge
develops; from the mode of
passion, greed develops; and from
the mode of ignorance develop
foolishness, madness and illusion.
PURPORT by HDG Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta
Swami Prabhupada:
Since the present civilization is
not very congenial to the living
entities, Krsna consciousness is recommended.
Through Krsna
consciousness, society will develop
the mode of goodness. When the
mode of goodness is developed, people
will see things as they are. In
the mode of ignorance, people are
just like animals and cannot see
things clearly. In the mode of ignorance,
for example, they do not see
that by killing one animal they are
taking the chance of being killed
by the same animal in the next life.
Because people have no education
in actual knowledge, they become irresponsible.
To stop this
irresponsibility, education for developing
the mode of goodness of the
people in general must be there. When
they are actually educated in
the mode of goodness, they will become
sober, in full knowledge of
things as they are. Then people will
be happy and prosperous. Even if
the majority of the people aren't
happy and prosperous, if a certain
percentage of the population develops
Krsna consciousness and becomes
situated in the mode of goodness,
then there is the possibility for
peace and prosperity all over the
world. Otherwise, if the world is
devoted to the modes of passion and
ignorance, there can be no peace
or prosperity. In the mode of passion,
people become greedy, and their
hankering for sense enjoyment has
no limit. One can see that even if
one has enough money and adequate
arrangements for sense
gratification, there is neither happiness
nor peace of mind. That is
not possible, because one is situated
in the mode of passion. If one
wants happiness at all, his money
will not help him; he has to elevate
himself to the mode of goodness by
practicing Krsna consciousness.
When one is engaged in the mode of
passion, not only is he mentally
unhappy, but his profession and occupation
are also very troublesome.
He has to devise so many plans and
schemes to acquire enough money to
maintain his status quo. This is all
miserable. In the mode of
ignorance, people become mad. Being
distressed by their circumstances,
they take shelter of intoxication,
and thus they sink further into
ignorance. Their future in life is
very dark.

The young lion
From the life of Bhaktivinoda and Bhaktisiddhanta
Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura took diksa
initiation from Bipin Behari Goswami, a babaji, who came in the line of
Gadadhara Pandita. Once Bepin Behari Goswami was visiting Srila Bhaktivinoda,
Bhaktivinoda paid his obeisances to the Goswami and Bipin Behari placed
his foot on Bhaktivinoda's head. The young child Bimala Prasada (Srila
Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati) seeing this, felt unhappy. He thought this
was a dangerous thing for Bipin Behari Goswami to do. After Bhaktivinoda
left the room, Siddhanta Sarasvati asked him a
question:"You are my father's Guru.But
you do not know who he is? "Bipin
Behari was taken aback by this 7-year
old's question. Young Siddhanta Saraswaticontinued,"My father is a nitya
siddha - an eternal associate of the Supreme Lord. DO you have sufficient
spiritual potency to place your foot on his head?" Srila Bhaktivinoda returned
at this time, so the conversation was interrupted. Bipin Behari Goswami
said, "Your son bold to the point of being rude." Later in life Srila Bhaktivinoda
Thakur would often introduce his beloved son and associate, "This is my
son, he's bold to the point of being rude."(Sri Krsna Kathamruth)

Translation
He who is beyond that which is perishable
and imperishable is the Supreme Person. The name of the Supreme Truth,
the cause of all causes is Sri Caitanya.
Purport
The universe is perishable. The spirit
soul is imperishable. The supreme truth beyond both of these, the cause
of all causes is called Caitanya, whose nature is that of the Supreme Person.
By this, the three truths of Vedanta are confirmed.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Bhagavad Gita 4:10 Text Transcendental
Knowledge
TRANSLATION
Being freed from attachment, fear
and anger, being fully absorbed in Me and
taking refuge in Me, many, many persons
in the past became purified by
knowledge of Me -- and thus they all
attained transcendental love for Me.
PURPORT: As described above, it is
very difficult for a person who is too
materially affected to understand
the personal nature of the Supreme
Absolute Truth. Generally, people
who are attached to the bodily conception
of life are so absorbed in materialism
that it is almost impossible for
them to understand that there is a
transcendental body which is imperishable, full of knowledge and eternally
blissful. In the materialistic concept, the body is perishable, full of
ignorance and completely miserable. Therefore, people in general keep this
same bodily idea in mind when they are informed of the personal form of
the Lord. For such materialistic men, the form of the gigantic material
manifestation is supreme.
Consequently they consider the Supreme
to be impersonal. And because they
are too materially absorbed, the conception
of retaining the personality
after liberation from matter frightens
them. When they are informed that
spiritual life is also individual
and personal, they become afraid of
becoming persons again, and so they
naturally prefer a kind of merging into
the impersonal void. Generally, they
compare the living entities to
the bubbles of the ocean, which merge
into the ocean. That is the highest
perfection of spiritual existence
attainable without individual
personality. This is a kind of fearful
stage of life, devoid of perfect
knowledge of spiritual existence.
Furthermore there are many persons who
cannot understand spiritual existence
at all. Being embarrassed by so many
theories and by contradictions of
various types of philosophical speculation, they become disgusted or angry
and foolishly conclude that there is no supreme cause and that everything
is ultimately void. Such people are in a diseased condition of life.
Some people are too materially attached
and therefore do not give attention
to spiritual life, some of them want
to merge into the supreme spiritual
cause, and some of them disbelieve
in everything, being angry at all sorts
of spiritual speculation out of hopelessness.
This last class of men take
to the shelter of some kind of intoxication,
and their affective hallucinations are sometimes accepted as spiritual
vision. One has to get rid of all three stages of attachment to the material
world, negligence of spiritual life, fear of a spiritual personal identity,
and the conception of void that underlies the frustration of life. To get
free from these three stages of the material concept of life, one has to
take complete shelter of the Lord, guided by the bona fide spiritual master,
and follow the disciplines and regulative principles of devotional life.
The last stage of the devotional life is called bhava, or transcendental
love of Godhead.
According to Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu,
the science of devotional service:
adau sraddha tatah sadhu-sango 'tha
bhajana-kriya/ tato 'nartha-nivrttih
syat tato nistha rucis tatah/ athasaktis
tato bhavas tatah
premabhyudancati/ sadhakanam ayam
premnah pradurbhave bhavet kramah/ "In
the beginning one must have a preliminary
desire for self-realization. This
will bring one to the stage of trying
to associate with persons who are
spiritually elevated. In the next
stage one becomes initiated by an
elevated spiritual master, and under
his instruction the neophyte devotee begins the process of devotional service.
By execution of devotional service under the guidance of the spiritual
master, one becomes free from all material attachment, attains steadiness
in self-realization, and acquires a taste for hearing about the Absolute
Personality of Godhead, Sri Krsna.
This taste leads one further forward
to attachment for Krsna consciousness,
which is matured in bhava, or the
preliminary stage of transcendental love of God. Real love for God is called
prema, the highest perfectional stage of life."
In the prema stage there is constant
engagement in the transcendental loving service of the Lord. So, by the
slow process of devotional service, under the guidance of the bona fide
spiritual master, one can attain the highest stage, being freed from all
material attachment, from the fearfulness of one's individual spiritual
personality, and from the frustrations resulting from void philosophy.
Then one can ultimately attain to the abode of the Supreme Lord.

Krishna Temple Suffered Quake Damage
Source: http://www.indiaserver.com/thehindu/holnus/02051810.htm
JAMNAGAR, INDIA, February 7, 2001:
The 5,000-year-old temple at Dwarka in
honor of Lord Krishna suffered grave
damage as a result of the January 26
earthquake in Gujarat. The Archaeological
Survey of India is expected to
organize repairs to the temple so
that it can be rendered safe for pilgrims.
Previous to this natural disaster
Lord Krishna's home received around 7,000
pilgrims daily. Stones have fallen
and cracks have appeared throughout the
structure. Now only locals venture
to the temple.

A Lesson in Life
A philosophy professor stood before
his class and had some items in front
of him. When class began, wordlessly
he picked up a large empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with
rocks, rocks about 2" in diameter. He then asked the students if the jar
was full? They agreed that it was.
So the professor then picked up a box
of pebbles and poured them into the
jar. He shook the jar lightly. The
pebbles, of course, rolled into the open
areas between the rocks. He then asked
the students again if the jar was full.
They agreed it was.
The students laughed. The professor
picked up a box of sand and poured it
into the jar. Of course, the sand
filled up everything else. "Now," said the professor, "I want you to recognize
that this is your life.
The rocks are the important things
- your family, your partner, your
health, your children - anything that
is so important to you that if it were lost, you would be nearly destroyed.
The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house,
your car. The sand is everything else. The small stuff."
"If you put the sand into the jar first,
there is no room for the pebbles
or the rocks. The same goes for your
life. If you spend all your energy and time on the small stuff, you will
never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention
to the things that are critical to your happiness - Follow your sadhana,
chant your rounds, read the shastra daily, take prasadam, play with your
children, encourage your wife/husband. Take time for those you care about
and who care about you. Take time to get medical checkups.
There will always be time to go to
work, clean the house, give a dinner
party(s) and fix the disposal." "Take
care of the rocks first - the things that really matter. Set your priorities.
The rest is just sand."
One might still ask, "Is the jar full?"
It would appear so, but, and this
is an important BUT. Now go and get a jug of water and pour that in. See
if your life is full.
PURPORT:
Unless the entire package is saturated
with Krishna Consciousness, even it may seem that life is busy, there will
still be areas lacking in FULL-FILL-ment.

God was in the process of creating
the Universe. And he was explaining to his angels:
Look everything should be in balance.
For example, here is the country of the United States. I have blessed them
with prosperity and money. But at the same time I have given them insecurity
and tension.
And here is Africa. I have given them beautiful forests and rivers. But at the same time, I have given them climatic extremes. And here is South America. I have given them lots of forests. But at the same time, I have not given them enough land, so that they would have to cut down the forests.
So you see, my good fellows, everything should be in balance.
One of the angels asked, God, what is this extremely beautiful country here?
God said, Ahah! That is the crown piece of all. India, my most precious creation. It has a friendly people; sparkling streams, serene mountains. A culture, which speaks of their great tradition and ancient tradition. A technologically brilliant people with a heart of gold.
The angel was surprised. But, God,
you said everything should be in balance.
God replied: Ore, .......Look at the
neighbours I gave them.
