Simple Puja Prayoga for
GO PUJA -----GOPASTAMI-------GOKRDA.

FOR ALL THESE FESTIVE OCCASIONS ONE CAN PERFORM THE FOLLOWING SIMPLE SEVA PUJA FOR OUR SACRED, MOTHER COW.
[ first thing to do is clean the goshalla ]

IN THE GOSHALLA ONE CAN HAVE A NICELY DECORATED COW AND CALF
(the cow can be tied to a small stake in the ground so as to limit her movements for the puja period).
(obviously this can also be performed in a padocked area / field / back yard or wherever required)

THE CALF CAN TAKE THE MILK, AND THE COW CAN HAVE SOME NICE FEED TO EAT.

IN STANDING OBEISANCE'S, HANDS FOLDED, RECITE THE FOLLOWING MANTRA:-

OM NAMO GOBHYAH SRIMATIBHYAH SAURABHEYIBHYA EVA CA
NAMO BRAHMA SUTABHYAS CA PAVITRABHYO NAMO NAMAH (three times)

THEN WORSHIP MOTHER COW WITH THE FOLLOWING TEN UPACARAS:-

OFFER PADYAM [sweetly fragrant water, containing: jasmine flowers, rose petals, dhurva grass tips, kusa grass tips]

IDAM PADYAM OM GAVAYE NAMAH SAMAPAYAMI   to her feet, all four.

OFFER ARGHYAM [water, uncooked rice, pearl barley, yellow mustard seeds, little yoghurt, little milk, dhurva grass tips]

(bear in mind this is the impure end according to Hari Bhakti Vilas and Dik Darshini Tika)

IDAM ARGHYAM OM GAVAYE NAMAH SAMAPAYAMI to her mouth for drinking.

OFFER ACAMANIYAM [water mixed with powdered nutmeg, and ground cloves 50-50.]

IDAM ACAMANIYAM OM GAVAYE NAMAH SAMAPAYAMI  to her mouth as a refreshing mouthwash three times.

OFFER MADHUPARKA [this is pancamrta, little of each, milk, yoghurt, ghee, honey, sugar water, mixed together in a patra]

ESA MADHUPARKA OM GAVAYE NAMAH SAMAPAYAMI again for drinking.

OFFER PUNAR ACAMANIYAM (as above)

ESA PUNAR ACAMANIYAM OM GAVAYE NAMAH SAMARPAYAMI and give for drinking

ANOINT  THE HEAD, AND ALL FOUR FEET , OF THE COW WITH SANDALWOOD PASTE (candan), AND WHOLE RICE DIPPED IN SAFFRON, OR RICE DIPPED IN  KUM KUM.

OFFER FLOWERS

ETANI PUSHPANI OM GAVAYE NAMAH SAMARPAYAMI

OFFER FLOWERS, ARATI FASHION TO HER THEN PUT THEM JUST BEFORE HER ON THE GROUND.

OFFER DHUPA [incense]

ESA DHUPA OM GAVAYE NAMAH SAMAPAYAMI
   vanaspati rasotpanno gandhatye gandha uttamah
aghreyah sarva devanam dhupo 'yam pratigrhyatam

ESA DIPA (lamps, but not too close as animals generally don't like fire)

ESA DIPA OM GAVAYE NAMAH SAMAPAYAMI
swa prakaso maha tejah sarvatas timirapahah
sa bahyabhyantar jyotir dipo 'yam pratigrhyatam

AT THIS TIME ONE SHOULD OFFER FIVE KINDS OF THE COW KNOWN FAVOURITE EATABLES
[sweet fresh grasses, oats, peanut meal, bushya--green leafy sabjis, mustard seed leaves, molasses - gur and peanut balls, etc, etc, what ever you know they especially like.]

THIS CAN BE FED TO MOTHER COW BY THE HANDS OF THE DEVOTEES WHO ARE THERE.

(check with the handlers to be sure the Cows are still in good temperament, and not disturbed by many people  being around them, and the noise of the Kirtan, or the fire from the Arati flames)

CHANT :

NAMO BRAHMANYA DEVAYA GO BRAHMANA HITAYA CA
JAGAD HITAYA KRSNAYA GOVINDAYA NAMO NAMAH

                                                                   THREE TIMES IN OBEISANCE'S.

THEN STILL BEARING IN MIND THAT HARSH NOISE (such as Karatals, Mrdanga, Gongs, etc) CAN DISTURB THE COWS, GENTLY ONE CAN CIRCUMAMBULATE IN ECSTATIC HARI-NAMA SANKIRTAN.

...and partake of a sumptuous Krishna prasadam feast made with so many kindly given by-products of the Cow.

Go puja ki jaya, Go mata ki jaya
