"New Millinium Travelling Festival"
HH Indradyumna Swami
has asked me to inform all of you regarding
the details of the upcoming
travelling festival program on the
South Island of New
Zealand. We welcome as many devotees as would
like to come.
The travelling festival
will take place from January 10th - 30th.
The theme will be 'Spiritual
Solutions to Material Problems'.
We will be meeting various
dignitaries and VIPs along the way to
offer guidance and advice
for a new millenium.
To keep costs down and
make everything simple and easy, we will
generally be staying
in public campings. Devotees are expected to
bring their own tents
and pay for their own fees at the camping sites.
In a couple of places
(ie: Christchurch and Dunedin) we will organize
devotee's and friends'
homes for free accomodation.
Devotees must also make
their own travel arrangements. We expect many
devotees to travel by
public transportion from place to place (bus).
In order to make bookings
for campings, we need to know by December
10th (at the latest)
exactly how many adults and children will
be coming ...and for
how many days. It is very important that you
contact me on, or before
this date, if you plan to come. We cannot
guarantee that late
reservations will be accepted.
Everyone who joins us
will be asked to contribute $5 per day for
prasadam, children under
12 will be free of charge.
We will have incense,
blissballs and stickers available for
distribution, if you
need to raise funds as you go.
All devotees will be
required to do menial tasks to help with
the general running
of the festival; cleaning duties, kitchen
service, bhoga
shopping, etc.
Devotees will also be
expected to strictly follow a devotional
morning program.
The planned itinerary is as follows.

The Scientists are saying
that this week they have found something
that by in the future
they will be able to create life. Let's see
what the acaryas say!!!
"This Krishna consciousness
movement is to know everything perfectly
from the supreme authority,
Krishna. This is the process. Tad
vijnänärtham
sa gurum eva abhigacchet. In order to understand subject
matter which is beyond
our perception, you have to approach such
authority who can inform
you. Exactly in the same way: to understand
who is my father is
beyond my perception, beyond my speculation, but
if I accept the authoritative
statement of my mother, this is perfect
knowledge. So there
are three kinds of processes to understand or to
advance in knowledge.
One is direct perception, pratyaksha. And the
other is authority,
and the other is Shruti. Shruti means by hearing
from the Supreme. So
our process is Shruti. Shruti means we hear from
the highest authority.
That is our process, and that is very easy.
Highest authority, if
He is not in default... Ordinary persons, they
are in default. They
have got imperfection. The first imperfection is:
the ordinary man, they
commit mistake. Any great man of the world, you
have seen, they commit
mistake. And they are illusioned. They accept
something as reality
which is not reality. Just like we accept this
body as reality. This
is called illusion. But it is not reality.
“I am soul.” That is
reality. So this is called illusion. And then,
with this illusory knowledge,
imperfect knowledge, we become teacher.
That is another cheating.
If you have not... They say, all these
scientists and philosophers,
“Perhaps,” “It may be.” So where is
your knowledge? “It
may be” and “perhaps.” Why you are taking the
post of a teacher? “In
future we shall understand.” And what is this
future? Would you accept
a post-dated check? “In future I shall
discover, and therefore
I am scientist.” What is this scientist?
And, above all, our
imperfectness of senses. Just like we are
seeing one another because
there is light. If there is no light,
then what is the power
of my seeing? But these rascals they do
not understand that
they are always defective, and still, they
are writing books of
knowledge. What is your knowledge? We must
take knowledge from
the perfect person.
Therefore we are taking
knowledge from Krishna, the Supreme
Person, the perfect
person. And He is advising that if you want
to stop your pains and
pleasure, then you must make some arrangement
not to accept this material
body. That He is advising, Krishna, how
to avoid this material
body. That has been explained. This is
Second Chapter. In the
Fourth Chapter Krishna has said that janma
karma me divyam yo jänäti
tattvatah, tyaktvä dehaà punar janma
naiti mäm eti.
You simply try to understand the activities of
Krishna. These activities
of Krishna is there in the history, in
the Mahäbhärata.
Mahäbhärata means greater India or greater Bhärata,
Mahäbhärata,
the history. In that history this Bhagavad-gitä is also
there. So He is speaking
about Himself. You try to understand Krishna.
This is our Krishna
consciousness movement. Simply try to understand
Krishna, His activities.
He is not impersonal. Janma karma me divyam.
Karma means activities.
He has activities. Why He is taking part
in this world, activities?
Why He comes?
yadä yadä hi
dharmasya
glänir bhavati
bhärata
abhyutthänam adharmasya
tadätmänam
såjämy aham
He has got some purpose;
He has got some mission. So try to
understand Krishna and
His mission and His activities. They are
described in a historical
form. So where is the difficulty? We read
so many things, history
or the activities of some leader, some
politician. The same
thing, same energy, you apply for
understanding Krishna.

Prabhupäda: Yes.
So... Just like if you have got your child on your
lap, if some friends
come and takes your child and pats him and kisses
him, then you become
pleased, immediately. “Oh, this gentleman loves
my child so much.” Similarly,
if a Vaishnava, a devotee, is respected,
then Krishna is more
pleased. Therefore it is called, yasya prasädäd
bhagavat-prasädah.
The respectful to guru makes easier to receive
mercy from God. Yasya
prasädäd bhagavat-prasädah. What is the meaning?
Satsvarüpa: “By
the mercy of the spiritual master, one gets the
blessings of Krishna.”
Prabhupäda: Yes.
Because Krishna is immediately pleased. “Oh, he’s
obedient and respectful
to My devotee.” It is in the same way, “Oh,
he loves my child so
much. He loves my dog.” Dog is not qualified.
But because the gentleman’s
dog is loved, the gentleman is pleased.
This is counteractive.
Similarly, a pure devotee, representative of
God, if he is offered
respect, that respect goes to God.
Satsvarüpa: Prabhupäda,
you said that we should respect everyone as
a devotee, but then
also you teach that...
Prabhupäda: No, no. By qualification, a Vaishnava respects everyone.
Satsvarüpa: But
then there’s also a teaching not to respect a
nondevotee even if he’s
a big man. We may formally offer him respect,
but if...
Prabhupäda: That’s
all right. Yes. Formality, you should be respectful.
Suppose your enemy—that
is etiquette—comes in your room. But when he
has come to your room,
you should offer him respect: “Come on, come
on. Sit down.” That
is etiquette. You know that “He’s my enemy.”
That... The etiquette
according to Vedic civilization: grihe
shatrum api präptam
vishvastam akuto-bhayam. Even your enemy comes
at your home, you should
treat with him in such a nice way that he’ll
forget that you are
his enemy. Grihe shatrum... That was... Just like
Jaräsandha and
Bhima. They, they wanted that “We want to fight
with you...” (Break)
Unless one of the kings died... (Break) ...a
strong flavor, and it
is continually, continues. So long it is alive,
the flavor is there.
So where is that art, where is that science?
When you have... Where
is that scientist amongst the human society?
They are very much proud
of their scientific advancement. Everything
see, the flowers and
leaves, so artistically, beautifully manufactured
that simply by seeing
them you’ll feel pleased. How the man can
manufacture it? And
still, they are denying the existence of God and
taking all the credit.
How foolish they are. Müdha. (laughter) Yes.
Yes, they have been
described as müdha. Now, we are appreciating
immediately Krishna’s
craftsmanship, artistic sense, and we are
glorifying. So that
should be done by everyone. But the müdhas, they
will not do that. They’ll
explain away. They’ll never admit God’s hand,
intelligence, brain
is there. They’ll never admit. Neither they will
explain how it is. They
know it, how it is done. It has been done,
or it is being done
by somebody. That they do not know, who is that
somebody. And when we
say it is Krishna, Krishna says, “It is I am,”
they’ll not agree. This
is their position. They do not know who is
that somebody, and when
we say, “Here is that somebody,” they’ll
not believe it. This
is müdha. Therefore it is said... The müdha
cannot explain all...
And at the same time, will not accept the
real thing. That is
müdha. Müdha means rascal. And they will set
aside the thing, “Yes,
scientifically we are searching. In future,
we shall be able.” And
when that future will come? Past, present
and future. The future
will become past also. Just like tomorrow,
29th June, this is future.
Now, day after tomorrow, it will be
past. (laughter) So
if you are talking of future, but where is
the history... In the
history the future is past. This is common
sense. So therefore
they have discovered this nonsense ad infinitum
that future will never
come. And still, they will set aside the
business to some future
and take the credit. Yes. “In future we
shall be able to do
it.” And that future will never come. And
still, they will take
the credit. (laughter) Just see. Therefore
müdha. This is
the explanation of müdha. It is just like somebody
offered you a post-dated
check, and then he wants to clear his debt.

by hundreds of dollars to you. I give you a
post-dated check, and
still I say, “Now I am clear of your debt.”
And that post-dated
check will never be paid. This is their

Kadai Vegetables
Ingredients
green chilli - 2
Red chilli powder -
2 tsp
Dhania powder - 1 tblsp
garam masala - 1/2 tsp
Kasoori methi - 2 tsp
Butter - 2 tblspn
salt - to taste
Saffron 5 gm.
Roasted gramflour 50
gms.
Hung yoghurt 50 gms.
Green cardamom powder
5 gms.
Mace powder 5 g
Black pepper 2 ½
gms.
All spice powder 1 gm.
Method:
1.Fry together onions
,tomatoes(3)and cashews in a little
oil and then grind into
a paste.
2.Boil potatoes,carrot
and beans till cooked.
3.Heat butter in a pan,
add chillies, capsicum and the other tomato.
4.Stir and add paneer
cubes, boiled vegetables and fry again.
5.Add dhania powder,
garam masala and red chilli powder,Salt and
then the ground paste.
6.Add a little water
and cook till the gravy becomes thick.
7.Garnish with coriander/methi
leaves and serve with chappathis or rice.

Mutter Bharri Aloo Ki
Tikki
Ingredients
500g/ 1 lb 2 oz. Potatoes
(boil
cooked but not mushy
& mash)
Green Chillies (seed
& finely chop)
3.25 g Taaza Dhania
/ Coriander (finely chop)
Salt
Desi Ghee / Clarified
Butter to shallow fry
The Filling
250g/9 oz Green Peas
50g/ ¼ cup Desi
Ghee / Clarified Butter
2g/ 1 tsp Zeera / Cumin
Seeds
A very generous pinch
of Heeng/ Asafoetida
(reserve in 30ml/2 tbsp.
Of water)
10g/ 1" piece Ginger
(finely chop)
4 Green Chillies (seed
and finely chop)
4.5g/1 ½ tsp.
Amchoor/Mango Powder
3g/1 tsp Black Pepper
(freshly roasted & coarsely ground).
The Masala
65g/ 2 ¼ oz Zeera
/ Cumin Seeds,
65g/2 1/4 oz. Black
Peppercorns,
60g/2 oz. Kaala Namak/
Black Rock Salt,
30g/ 1 oz. Pudhina /
Dry Mint Leaves,
5g / 2 tsp Ajwain,
150g/ 5 ¼ oz.
Amchoor / Mango Powder,
20g/ ¾ oz. Yellow
Chilli Powder.
Serves : 4
Preparation Time:1 hour
Cooking Time: 2-3 minutes / set
Preparation
The Potatoes: Put
all the ingredients in a bowl except ghee
and mix well. Divide
into 12 equal portions and make balls.
The Filling: Heat
ghee in a kadhai/wok, add cumin and stir over
medium heat until it
begins to pop, add asafoetida and stir until
the moisture evaporates.
Then add ginger and green chillies, stir
for a few seconds, add
peas and bhunno/stir-fry until the mixture
becomes dry. Remove,
add the remaining ingredients, adjust the
seasoning, cool, mash
and divide into 12 equal portions.
The Tikki: Flatten
each potato ball between the palms to make
round patties. Place
a portion of the filling in the middle,
make balls again and
then flatten to make ¾" thick round patties.
The Masala: Put
all ingredients, except mango and yellow chilli
powder in a blender
and, in short pulses, make fine powder. Transfer
to clean, dry bowl,
add the remaining ingredients and mix well.
Sieve and store in sterilized,
dry and airtight container.
Yield: Approx. 375g/13
oz.
Cooking
Heat ghee on a
thick tawa/griddle or in a frying pan, add
patties in convenient
batches and shallow fry over medium heat
until a thick crust
is formed on both sides. Remove to absorbent
paper to drain the excess
fat. Repeat the process with the
remaining patties.
To Serve
Place a paper doiley
on a platter, arrange the tikki on top,
sprinkle a generous
quantity of the masala on top and serve
with Amchoor Saunth
and Coriander-Mint Chutney.
