An intelligent person does not take part in the sources of misery,
which are due to contact with the material senses. O son of Kunti,
such pleasures have a beginning and an end, and so the wise man
does not delight in them.PURPORT by HDG Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupad:
Material sense pleasures are due to the contact of the material
senses, which are all temporary because the body itself is
temporary. A liberated soul is not interested in anything which is
temporary. Knowing well the joys of transcendental pleasures, how
can a liberated soul agree to enjoy false pleasure? In the Padma
Purana it is said:ramante yogino 'nante
satyanande cid-atmani
iti rama-padenasau
param brahmabhidhiyate"The mystics derive unlimited transcendental pleasures from the
Absolute Truth, and therefore the Supreme Absolute Truth, the
Personality of Godhead, is also known as Rama."In the Srimad-Bhagavatam also (5.5.1) it is said:
nayam deho deha-bhajam nr-loke
kastan kaman arhate vid-bhujam ye
tapo divyam putraka yena sattvam
suddhyed yasmad brahma-saukhyam tv anantam"My dear sons, there is no reason to labor very hard for sense
pleasure while in this human form of life; such pleasures are
available to the stool-eaters [hogs]. Rather, you should undergo
penances in this life by which your existence will be purified, and
as a result you will be able to enjoy unlimited transcendental
bliss."Therefore, those who are true yogis or learned transcendentalists
are not attracted by sense pleasures, which are the causes of
continuous material existence. The more one is addicted to material
pleasures, the more he is entrapped by material miseries. His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Prabhupada Uvacha:
(here's some nectar, sometimes it comes in the form of Srutakirti prabhu's
diary, other times from Govinda dasi's diary, Hari Sauri prabhu's Transcendental
Diary, or sometimes from a letter, or other related source, but still nectar...)
Krishna Consciousness dissipates darkness of life
Prabhupada continued his evening pandala lecture series from the Sixth Canto.
kecit kevalaya bhaktya
vasudeva-parayanah
agham dhunvanti kartsnyena
niharam iva bhaskarah.
"Only a rare person who has adopted complete, unalloyed devotional service to Krsna can uproot the weeds of sinful actions with no possibility that they will revive. He can do this simply by discharging devotional service, just as the sun can immediately dissipate fog by its rays."
He stressed that kecit means "somebody," not just anybody. It does not refer to the karmis, jnanis, and yogis but to those situated on the platform of anyabhilasita-sunyam, the mood of pure devotional service to Krsna. He told the packed audience that they should begin devotional service in the recommended way, by hearing from an authorized source. This in turn will enable them to perform kirtana and preach. And by hearing and speaking about the Supreme, Lord Krsna can be conquered.
He ended his long lecture with the same message of encouragement that seems to characterize his Indian preaching tours. "Our miserable condition of life is due to our material attraction or papa, impious activities. Here it is confirmed kevalaya bhaktya, agham dhunvanti kartsnyena: totally you can kill all reaction of sinful activities. And a very good example is given here -- niharam iva bhaskarah. Nihara means fog. In the fog you cannot see what is there in your front. But as soon as there is sunrise, immediately fog is dissipated. If you come to Krsna consciousness, the light is there. Therefore the darkness of life is dissipated.
"So this Movement is giving the chance to everyone. It doesn't mean for any particular nation, particular country, or particular person. For everyone. Caitanya Mahaprabhu said, 'All over the world, in every village and every town, this message will be spread,' and that is being done now. So it is a great Movement. I request you all to join wholeheartedly. Thank you very much. Hare Krsna."
Each night there is an increasing number of gentlemen coming on stage to receive books from Prabhupada. The devotees go out preaching during the day, and Prabhupada's presence has greatly enhanced the Life Membership enrollments. There is a great deal of enthusiasm on the part of the local people, so the future looks promising for preaching in Nellore.

Prabhupada: Their civilization begins from monkey, and our civilization begins from...
Dr. Patel: From Vedas.
Prabhupada: ...Brahma.
Dr. Patel: From Brahma actually when he learned the Vedas.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Dr. Patel: Those four or five, five or four slokas, original of Srimad-Bhagavatam, I want to learn from you. I read all the commentary -- you have written commentary for four pages -- but I think I am little mudha to understand it. (laughing) So I'll learn directly if you can teach me. I am now critically studying your, this thing, commentary on this.
Prabhupada: Hm. Very good.
Dr. Patel: Once I read it, but now I am doing a critical study of it. Both of Sanskrit as well as your comments. [break]
Prabhupada: ...divided by separate words.
Dr. Patel: It is written in purport too much (Sanskrit). The combination of this word is so difficult...
Prabhupada: ...recommended to study Bhagavata from bhagavata, not by grammar.
Dr. Patel: No, no. But unless, I mean, I like Sanskrit myself, so I try to learn Sanskrit; I can read other, more Sanskrit books. So it is a sort of a study with me, as well as a knowledge of Bhagavata. So I am trying to be more critical about it. But that way I have read Bhagavata in Gujarati, even in Hindi (indistinct) Gorhakpur.
Prabhupada: ...Visnu Purana.
Dr. Patel: Visnu Purana is (indistinct) from Mahabharata. It is very easy. Extremely easy.
Prabhupada: Hare Krsna! (to passerby)
Dr. Patel: Some of the, some people try to poke at us also.
Prabhupada: Huh?
Dr. Patel: They are fools.
Prabhupada: What is that?
Dr. Patel: Well, because we, we chant God's name, out of fun they also say. But we...
Prabhupada: That is also good.

SRILA PRABHUPADA'S QUOTE OF THE DAY
Certainly those who take Krishna's advent as that of an ordinary man are great fools, but if one can simply understand the transcendental nature of this event as well as His disappearance, he becomes immediately liberated.

O Keshava! O Lord of the universe! O Lord Hari, who haze assumed the form of Ramacandra! All glories to You! In the battle of Lanka You destroy the tenheaded demon Ravana and distribute his heads as a delightful offering to the presiding deities of the ten directions, headed by Indira. This action was long desired by all of them, who were much harassed by this monster.

Actual dates of the life time of Lord Rama
Date: Fri, 24 Mar 2006 11:43:18 -0000
From: "Pushkar" <pushkar39@yahoo.com>
Subject: Actual dates of the life time of Lord Ram
Namaskar
My name is Pushkar Bhatnagar, a resident of New Delhi.
I would like to share a few factual details about the life of Lord Rama through this mail. In case you are interested in knowing about the actual dates of the happening of various events during the life time of Lord Rama - please continue to read. I have found the precise dates of happening of various events during the lifetime of Lord Ram from his birth to the age of 39 years when he returned from 14 year's exile.
Maharishi Valmiki, who wrote Ramayana, was contemporary of Lord Ram. While narrating the events of lifetime of Lord Ram, Valmiki has incidentally mentioned the position of planets in the sky at different places. For instance, the position of all the planets (visible with unaided eye) has been mentioned for the date of birth of Lord Ram. Later, while mentioning that Lord Ram was sent to exile for 14 years on his 25th birthday, the position of planets in the sky has been mentioned again for that day. Moving forward, it has been stated that on the amavasya (no moon day) of the 10th month of the 13th year of his exile he fought a battle with Khar and Dushan and on that day a solar eclipse was seen from Panchwati. Not only a solar eclipse occurred but the planets were arranged in the sky in a particular manner. Going ahead, he mantions that six months later when Ram killed Bali on the Amavasya of Ashad of the 14th year of exile, another solar eclipse was visible in the morning sky and after five months when Hanuman went to meet Sita at Lanka, a lunar eclipse was witnessed in the evening. Besides these several other planetary positions have also been mentioned at different other places.
It is imporatant to know that planetary positions keep changing every day in the sky and they do not repeat for Lakhs of years!! Moreover, if we know the position of all the planets in the sky, then they refer to one and only one date in history.
The effort to provide dates to the planetary positions mentioned in Ramayana and other vedic literature began with legendary Bal Gangadhar Tilak in his well known book 'Orion'. However, the efforts made so far were based on manual computations. Since one revolution of these planets is completed in a highly complex fractional number, it is difficult to arrive at the accurate day and time in history. But in late 90s many software were developed to track the position of planets in the sky and with these software, planets' position at any given point of time in the sky can be known.
By using a powerful planetarium software, I found that the planetary positions mentioned in Ramayana for the date of birth of Lord Ram had occurred in the sky at around 12.30 p.m. of 10th January 5114 BC. It was the ninth day of the Shukla Paksh of Chaitra month too. Moving forward, after 25 years of the birth of Lord Ram, the position of planets in the sky tallies with their description in Ramayana. Again, on the amavasya of the 10th month of the 13th year of exile the solar eclipse had indeed occurred and the particular arrangement of planets in the sky was visible. ( Date comes to 7th October 5077 BC). Even the occurrence of subsequent two eclipses also tally with the respective description in Valmiki Ramayan. (Date of Hanuman's meeting Sita at Lanka was 12th September 5076 BC). In this manner the entire sequence of the planetary positions gets verified and all the dates can be precisely determined.
The entire dating has been conducted objectively because the software does not permit any manipulation and the verses of Ramayana are also free of any doubts. Leading scientists and those in this field have appreciated this work. Since the entire sequence tallies, it proves that all the observations in theRamayana were actual recordings and not conjectures.
The indologist suggested that I should have some archaeological evidence in support of these dates because for western historians these dates are too old to be accepted! By god's grace I came across an interesting archaeological evidence also and I give it's details in forthcoming paras.
About a few months back NASA had photographed an ancient bridge like structure between India and Sri Lanka and stated that it appeared to be manmade. Most of our historians and theologists jumped on the story and said it was related to Lord Ram. Later on NASA denied having made any statement as to how the bridge got built etc. The enthusiasm died soon and nothing could be conculded since we were trying to prove that it was built millions of years ago.
Just analyse the situation. Suppose you build your house with stones, which are millions of years old - Does your house also becomes millions of years old?Answer is a clear 'No'.
This was the mistake we were making while trying to claim the ancient bridge and the antiquity of Lord Ram to millions of years ago. Actually, the remains of the bridge, which Lord Ram had built are still available at a place called ' Chedu Karai' in Tamil Nadu. 'Chedu' means 'Setu' ( bridge) and 'Karai' means 'corner'. Interestingly, these remains of the bridge are available at the depth of about 10 feet below the water and these are about 1.5 kilometer inside the sea.
We are all aware that the rise of sea level, ever since the end of the last ice age (about 16000 BC), is a continuous phenomenon. There is scientific unanimity today that at the end of the last Ice age (which lasted about 1,20,000 Years) the sea level was about 120 meters below the present level. After that, earth entered the warming phase and Ice started melting. The level of sea started rising. The most interesting thing here is that the depth of sea between India and Sri Lanka is just 6-13 meters. It is not more than 13 meters deep at any place. Hence, at the end of last Ice age (16000 BC) India and Sri Lanka were connected by land.
The sea level started to rise gradually and again the scientific data
suggests that it reached the level of 14 meters as late as 8000 Years ago.
This clearly means that what we call as Palk Strait today came into existence
only around 6000 BC. Water rose to a level where it was seen above the
shallow land between India and Sri Lanka only around 6000 BC. The data
is correct to the extent of +/- 1500 years.
It is all available at the website of National Geophysical Data Centre,
USA.
Hence, if the narration in Ramayana is to be believed that Rama's army crossed the sea to reach Lanka, it has to be an event of Post 6000 BC era.
Further, the precise level at which the `remains of the bridge' built by Lord Rama can be measured and exact date of building the bridge can be ascertained because the rate of rise of sea level is known now very precisely.
All these findings have been published as a book titled "Dating the era of Lord Ram" (By Rupa & Co, Delhi). Hope you would the information interesting. I am sure you would have questions on the subject. I shall be glad to answer the same.

"IN EVERY TOWN AND VILLAGE the chanting of the Holy Name of Krishna shall be heard. This was the forecast made by Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu almost 500 years ago in India. Today, as the Hare Krishna Mantra -- Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare -- resounds in Bombay and New York, Nairobi and Sydney, and in Paris and Hong Kong, the prophecy of Lord Caitanya stands fulfilled. The universal import of this "Samkirtan Movement" (the congregational chanting of the Holy Names of the Lord) was expressed by Lord Caitanya as follows:
"Glory to the Sri Krishna Samkirtan which cleanses the heart of all the dust accumulated for years together. Thus the fire of conditional life, of repeated birth and death, is extinguished. The Samkirtan Movement is the prime benediction for humanity at large because it spreads the rays of the benediction Moon. It is the life of all transcendental knowledge, it increases the ocean of transcendental bliss, and it helps us to have a taste of the full nectar for which we are always anxious."

Agama Tantra and the Vaishnava Samskaras as a way of life:
Recently I was asked, "Don't you find it an inconvenience to always be checking to see when is the right time to do this or the best time for that?"
In simple terms my answer was and still is; if you go to the bus or railway station or airport it is probably an intelligent venture to enquire about the times and routes of vehicles than to just hope that one will be along soon, or one is going in your direction.
There are subtle influences in the Universe that, for thousands of years gone by, advanced cultures have honoured, respected and utilised. Before the corruption of the Vedik literatures by the Christian and Moslem invaders to India all these things were used; Ayurvedik Medicine; Vedik Astrology; etc. Today there's a rennaisance among many to revive these arts.
We have been trained and studied to be able to provide these services. See some of my sites:

"The religious principles taught by Mohammed and Jesus Christ are similar to the religious principles taught by Vaishnava sects. Buddhism and Jainism are similar to Saiva-dharma. This is scientific consideration of truths regarding religious principles. Those who consider their own religious principles as real dharma and others religious principles as irreligion or subreligion are unable to ascertain the truth due to being influenced by prejudice. Actually religious principles followed by people in general are different only due to the different qualifications of the practitioners, but the constitutional religious principles of all living entities are one." thanx again Shyam'
Hare Krsna!
In the download section of my website http://tinyurl.com/9er95 you will find a copy of Ganguly's complete English translation of the Mahabharata (originally in 13 hardback volumes) in HTML format. It is in a 7.5 MB zipped file.
The Mahabharata explains by example how Lord Krsna's Vedic culture and Varnashrama Dharma are meant to work. Where the Manu Smriti is a concise book of laws for Mankind the Mahabharata shows how those laws are applied. The Mahabharata along with the Ramayana have been the main foundation for the continuation of Vedic culture because they are easily accessible to the masses. The Mahabharata was actually written for the unfortunate people of the Kali Yuga to help uplift them. A close study of the Mahabharata and Ramayana in conjunction with the Manu Samhita would serve as a good guide on how to implement Varnashrama Dharma. And, in conjunction with the Srimad Bhagavatam, insight into Daivi Varnashrama Dharma. The Mahabharata is thus an essential text for anyone interested in implementing VAD.
The Mahabharata is a vast treasure house of Brahminical knowledge and as the Mahabharat itself says: "What is found in the Mahabharata may be found in other texts; whatever is not found in the Mahabharata is not found anywhere."
You will also find a PDF copy of a canto of Agnivesa's Caraka Samhita (an Ayurvedic text) entitled Sarirasthana, a fascinating account of how the body is formed starting with philosophical details, conception, karmic details, embryology etc. I once gave this text to an obstetrician to read while she was waiting to see me and she was astounded at how much knowledge was contained in such an ancient text. Indians online save NZ Krishna temple
Sachin Kalbag
Sunday, March 26, 2006 21:50 IST
MUMBAI: A Mumbai couple, now residing in Auckland, New Zealand , have gotten together with the local Indian community in Kiwiland to save a Lord Krishna temple from its NZ$1 million (Rs 2.8 crore) debt. Ketan and Lakshmi Patel, two management graduates from Mumbai, have constructed a website to auction a Lord Krishna painting through which the congregation aims to raise the NZ$1 million which it owes to ANZ Bank.
“The idea,” says Ketan, “is to ask 10,000 Lord Krishna devotees from across the world to pitch in NZ$100 (Rs2800) each.” The temple is managed by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), and was built in 2004 at a cost of $3 million (Rs8.4 crore) at a 100-acre farmland on the 1229 Riverhear-Coatesville Highway off Auckland. The website, www.iskconnz.com/1million, is online, and has begun receiving donations from Indian devotees. So far they have collected NZ$34,020.75.
The painting, by 33-year-old Ukrainian artist Dimitro Siriy, now christened Dina Bandhu Das in the ISKCON tradition, will be placed on a wall inside the temple’s main worship hall, measure 4.17 metres x 2.82 metres. Says Lakshmi, “As far as we know, this is the only $1 million Krishna painting in the world.” For the project, the Patels were joined by ISKCON members Rasparayan Das, Vasant Koli, Roneel Naidu, Nikhil Maganlal and Peter Ho. The painting shows a fruitseller being rewarded with jewellry after she offers Lord Krishna fruits despite him dropping the grains he was supposed to barter.
Says Ketan, “We pay a NZ$7000 interest each month. It eats into our donations, and as winter approaches, the cost of running the temple will only increase. For instance, we have a feast every Sunday where we serve Prasadam to at least 600 people. We had to come up with an innovative idea to raise funds. A painting to auction seemed a perfect idea.”
He adds, “The temple also has a Hare Krishna school, a Gaushala, and an ashram for devotees living the temple. The costs could be better managed if we rid ourselves of the huge debt.” The Patels expect a huge support from the one lakh strong Indian community in New Zealand. “We have also pinned our hopes on strong Indian media support in Auckland and other cities which have a strong Indian connection,” says Ketan.
Ketan says making the temple debt-free has become important since the temple is fast becoming a central point for Vedic and other Indian cultural activities in New Zealand. “Approximately 700 devotees congregate at the temple for each event,” says Ketan. “For us, the temple is now a very important community centre.”
Go to the Auckland Temple HERE - please help if you can
Hare Krsna dear devotees, please accept my humble obeisences unto you all. All glouries to His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. I hope the following tips can help you in sharing what you know about Krsna consciousness in a nice loving way with your Muslim friends in Muslim countries. The tips below can be adapted if you are in western countries & more so if you distribute books on the street: Remember; Time-Place-Circumstances- and your audiences capacity to understand & accept are always factors to consider with each presentation.
1, First please check your mood before you share Krsna con with anyone. Ask yourself, are you trying to share Krsna con out of love for the soul within the body you are seeing or is it out of false ego that you want to convert this person to your group, your label? People were always so affected by Srila Prabhupada. One devotee once said to Prabhupada “Prabhupada everyone loves you so much” and Prabhupada said “yes, because I love everyone”. We really need this consciousness when dealing with people, specially Muslims. They are very very sensetive & can pick up very quickly if you are just trying to convert them, then you have lost them as well as possibly getting a heavy bad reaction too! This is why we can not stress enough that when you are dealing with such souls, it is very very important you establish a real friendship with them first. Just like a doctor about to perform a painful operation must gain the trust & faith of the patient first otherwise the patient will always be too afraid & tense for the operation to be successful. This is part of Krsna con, it is not Maya! Yes, it takes alot more time but worth it. Establishing a relationship based on friendship will open the door to exchange & acceptence of the higher realisations of Krsna con & save you from being completely rejected, being attacked or having the police being called for you. I have had Muslim friends who later weren’t so attracted to Krsna consciousness but never gave us any troubles because they thought “anyway he is my friend, this is his personal life, let him be” if they felt I was just a preacher they would call the police immediately & have me removed oneway or another! Srila Prabhupada was & is so successful because he wins your friendship & trust first then you are ready to hear & possibly accept anything he says.
2, So now you are ready to share, what do you say to Muslims?
I have heard many speculations about our view on Islam & Muslims, alot
of bad ones coming from Indian people & even devotees from India stating
“well, the bhavishya purana says this & that. Please understand we
generally cannot understand any purana unless it is explained by our founder
Acarya Srila Prabhupada. With any field of teaching you want to take up
please check out fully what Prabhupada says about this first. This gives
us the correct angle, correct understanding, correct mood to develop, avoid
treading on dangerous grounds, fully consult Srila Prabhupada first
& senior devotees in the same field. There was a big devotee who once
went on public radio & said the Prophet Hz. Mohammed was some kind
of Hobgoblin, Muslims are followers of Shiva and more...
Terrible! Can you find one place where Prabhupada says such things?
No! What does he say? The Complete opposite, here are some quotes and more
in the veda base. Knowing the philosophy is one thing but having the wrong
mood is something else. We must hear, see & understand the mood of
Prabhupada when he deals with different matters then we can do a better
job of following him.
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada:
1. “Hazrat Muhammad, the inaugurator of the Islam religion, I accept him as an empowered servant of God because he preached God-consciousness in those parts of the world and induced them to accept the authority of God. He is accepted as the servant of God and we have all respect for him.” ( Letter, 2-4-1976)
2. So therefore, by that symptom, we accept Lord Jesus Christ as Saktyaves
avatara, or Hazrat Muhammad, he’s also. Because these two religious leaders
of the world, they preached about the glorification of the Supreme Lord.
And they sacrificed everything for preaching the glories of the Lord. Therefore...
And their influence and their followers, there are... These are the symptoms
by which we can understand that Jesus Christ and Hazrat Muhammad was, were
Saktyaves avataras. ( CC Madhya-lila 20.367-84)
3. “Vedas means the books of transcendental knowledge. Not only the Bhagavad Gita, even the Bible or the Quran, they are also.” (lecture 29-7-68)
4. Srila Prabhupada:No, no. Christianity is Vaisnavism.
Dr. Patel: Vaisnavism? Absolutely Vaisnavism.
Srila Prabhupada:Islam is also Vaisnavism.
Dr. Patel: Mohammedanism is not Vaisnavism.
Srila Prabhupada:No, no. Caitanya Mahaprabhu had talked with the Pathanas.
He proved that “Your religion is Vaisnavism.”
(February 17, 1974, Bombay)
5. “Chaitanya Mahaprabhu proved devotional service from the Quran.
So , it requires a devotee who can explain God from any Godly literature”
( Morning Walk, June 6, 1974, Geneva)
6. “Then Islam is Vaishnava dharma in a crude form like christianty.”(room conversation, Tehran 14-3-75)
7. They accept God. They are also our brothers because they accept God. They are not atheist. Atheist don’t accept God. “there is no God” say the atheist. But here they are theists. They accept God. They want to please God. They go to the church, go to mosques, offer prayers. Prayers is also bhakti, devotional service. The Christian way or the Muslim way is to offer prayer. The Muslims offer obeisences & offer prayer. So that is also Bhakti (devotion). The Christians also do that, so that is also bhakti. And they accept God; We accept God. So there is no difference. But the only point is who is that God. ( room conversation, Tehran 14-3-75)
So you can see what is our mission, simply to try and increase our attraction
and their attraction to the Supreme personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krsna
& help them to develop further attachment to Krsna and loving service
unto Krsna (Bhakti yoga). What process they choose to follow, like
Prabhupada we should leave upto each individual to decide for themselves
without any tinge of label, bodily identification (you must join my group)
rubbish!
Krsna Himself says: “Thus I have explained to you knowledge still more
confidential. Deliberate on this fully, and then do what you wish to do”
Bhagavad Gita 18-63.
”My mission is not turn any one from the affiliation of a particular religion but I want to let them know more knowledge about God and devotion.” 6-11-1965, (letters) Srila Prabhupada.
“Actually, we are not teaching a particular type of faith. We are teaching the post graduate studies of all religions:we are teaching people how to love God and who is the man that will deny this principle?” 5-12-68, Srila Prabhupada.
Now you have checked your mood a little, Prabhupada’s mood and what
we want to achieve, how do we practically do this?
Srila Prabhupada would often say, our process is very easy, we don’t
have to manufacture anything new. Simply follow the previous Acaryas, so
sharing bhakti yoga with the Muslim world is no exception. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu
Himself had talks with both educated & not so educated Muslims. He
is showing us how to present Krsna consciousness in a way that the conditioned
soul will accept. If you go upto a Muslim & say “hey, the Bhagavad
gita says this & that, why don’t you follow….
You would be lucky to just get some harsh words!! Krsna as Chaitanya
Mahaprabhu met and convinced Muslims to take up the chanting of the Hare
Krsna Maha Mantra & more devotional service by speaking through their
book (The Holy Koran) using their words & their understanding gradually
bringing them up to the realizations of the Bhagavad Gita & Srimad
Bhagavatam . This is the way set by Krsna Himself & as we know He is
very successful! We have therefore put together these books listed
below which explain these topics in much more detail to help you in your
service:
1, SRILA PRABHUPADA ON ISLAM( everything His Divine Grace A.C. Prabhupada ever said about Islam)
2, BHAKTI YOGA and ISLAM (questions and answers encountered in the field
by Srila Prabhupada &
devotees sharing Krsna Consciousness with Muslims in Muslim countries)
3, THE HIDDEN TREASURE OF AL-QURAN. (the HOLY QURAN as explained by CAITANYA MAHAPRABHU)
4, COMPARATIVE COSMOLOGY. (comparative study of SCIENCE, QURAN, BIBLE & VEDIC KNOWLEDGE)

Krsna Consciousness to the Muslim world.

CANADA, March 22, 2006: HPI note: The following opinion piece by Ron Benerjee, director of the Hindu Conference of Canada, appeared in the Canada Free Press:
To preserve freedom, it is vital for democratic societies to audit themselves to ensure that our actions encourage behavior in accordance with our core beliefs, and penalize unacceptable conduct. The West is doing the precise opposite in its treatment of Muslim fanatics, especially in comparison to well-behaved minorities like Hindus.
Islamist reactions to Danish cartoons, films about the treatment of Muslim women, or books, which contradict Islamic myths, are well known. The meek surrender of Western media and educational institutions to barbaric Islamist mobs threatens to destroy democracy. Schools and educational institutions are especially complicit: numerous institutions have denied their student newspapers the right to publish the cartoons to avoid "upsetting" Islamic students.
Curiously, as educational institutions bend over backwards and violate the principles of free speech to curry favor with Muslims (or perhaps to avoid jihadist violence), the educational system in California is taking a bigoted stance with respect to the peaceful Hindu minority. California school textbooks, while treating other religions including Islam with respect, have for years been describing Hinduism in inaccurate and demeaning terms which border on hate literature. The well-known inequality between the genders within Islam are described as "different roles for men and women," while Hinduism is projected as a faith where "women were less important than men." The "caste system," which has effectively disappeared from modern India, is dwelled on in excessive length; with the implication that it is a common feature even today. Hindu beliefs are described as "myths" while stories from other religions are presented as facts.

Acceptance fuels Influence
http://www.urbanmissionary.info/2006/03/24/acceptance-fuels-influence/
Posted Friday, March 24th, 2006 at 2:57 PM under Inspirational
Triyuga dasa also mentioned that “positive buy in … paves the way for team evolution.”
This is a fact that Andy Stanley sums up with the mantra “Acceptance fuels Influence”.
Srila Bhaktivinode Thakura explains the principle in his essay “Light of the Bhagavat”, published over a century ago.
He is the best critic who can show the further development of an old thought; but a mere denouncer is the enemy of progress and consequently of nature. Progress certainly is the law of nature, and there must be corrections and developments with the progress of time. But progress means going further or rising higher. The shallow critic and the fruitless reader are the two great enemies of progress. We must shun them.
The true critic, on the other hand, advises us to preserve what we have already obtained, and to adjust our race from that point where we have arrived in the heat of our progress. He will never advise us to go back to the point whence we started, as he fully knows that in that case there will be a fruitless loss of our valuable time and labor. He will direct the adjustment of the angle of our race at the point where we are.
This is also the characteristic of the useful student. He will read an old author and will find out his exact position in the progress of thought. He will never propose to burn a book on the ground that it contains thoughts which are useless.
No thought is useless. Thoughts are means by which we attain our objects. The reader who denounces a bad thought does not know that a bad road is even capable of improvement and conversion into a good one. One thought is a road leading to another. Thus, the reader will find that one thought, which is the object today, will be the means of a further object tomorrow. Thoughts will necessarily continue to be an endless series of means and objects in the progress of humanity.
It would be one thing to sit back with arms folded and criticize Atma Yoga, but what we have to do is engage, discuss the issues vigorously, and do the best we can to guide its development and implementation with our own conscious contributions.
“Acceptance fuels influence” is Andy Stanley’s mantra, and “Contribution fuels influence” is its corollary.

Web Site Offers Scientific Verification of Vedic Knowledge
http://www.archaeologyonline.net
USA, March 3, 2006: This website ("source") by David Osborn is informative and well illustrated. It says in the introduction, "A vast number of statements and materials presented in the ancient Vedic literatures can be shown to agree with modern scientific findings, and they also reveal a highly developed scientific content in these literatures. The great cultural wealth of this knowledge is highly relevant in the modern world." The site presents a wide range of new information, including that from marine archeology, satellite imagery, carbon dating and linguistic analysis.

Dedicated 2 All Us Crackpots.........
A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on each end of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the master's house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water in his master's house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect to the end for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do.
After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you." "Why?" asked the bearer. "What are you ashamed of?"
Comparing himself to the other pot he said, "I have been able, for these past two years, to deliver only half my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your master's house. Because of my flaws, you have to do all of this work, and you don't get full value from your efforts," the pot said. The water bearer felt sorry for the old cracked pot, and in his compassion he said, "As we return to the master's house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path." Indeed, as they went up the hill, the old cracked pot took notice of the sun warming the beautiful wild flowers on the side of the path, and this cheered him. But at the end of the trail, it still felt bad because it had leaked out half its load, and so again it apologized to the bearer for its failure.
The bearer said to the pot, "Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of your path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, and I took advantage of it. I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walked back from the stream, you've watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my spiritual master's table. Without you being just the way you are, he would not have this beauty to grace his house."

We all fit in somehow and have some value - and in the words of Plato "Never discourage anyone who continually makes progress, no matter how slow".

In case of emergency (ICE) contact
number
East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched a national "In case of
Emergency (ICE)" campaign with the support of Falklands war hero Simon
Weston.
The idea is that you store the word "ICE" in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency". In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them. It's so simple - everyone can do it. Please do. Please will you also forward this to everybody in your address book, it won't take too many forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life.

Social scientists and law enforcement officials
have identified animal abuse as a symptom of emotional illness and a precursor
to violent crimes against human beings. To allow individuals guilty of
perpetrating such cruel acts to go unpunished or not sufficiently punished
would be to sanction these horrific crimes and would permit them to go
on to possibly commit violent crimes against humans.

Making Food Sacred - Offering
our food to Krishna:
....excerpt from lecture by HDG Srila A.C.
Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada - Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.3.1-3 -- San Francisco,
March 28, 1968
The Vedic literature says like this, that God has no leg, no hand. Therefore the impersonalists take advantage of it. "Oh, here it is stated God has no legs, no hands." But the next line is, javana grhita: "He can accept everything which you offer Him in devotion."
Now how He can accept? If He has no hand, how He can accept things from us? That means He hasn't got a hand like us. His hand is different. Therefore even though He is situated in the spiritual world, which is far, far away from us, still, He says in the Bhagavad-gita, it is said,
patram puspam phalam toyam
yo me bhaktya prayacchati
tad aham bhakty-upahrtam
asnami prayatatmanah
Krsna says that "A little flower or little water or a little leaf, whatever My devotee offers Me in love and devotion, I accept it." And tad aham bhakty-upahrtam. "And because he has brought it with great devotion, therefore I eat." Tad aham bhakty-upahrtam asnami. Asnami means "I eat." Now you can say, "All right, I'll offer these fruits and flower to God, but it is the same. It is remaining. How He is eating?" But His eating is not like my eating, because He hasn't got a body like this. This body is material. If you bring me a plate of fruits, this body immediately swallows it. But He has got spiritual body. He eats... Simply as soon as He knows that you have offered it in devotion, He eats immediately.
Go here to follow the simple system for offering
foodstuffs to the Lord
... and always
with the Magic ingredient - Offer it to Krishna.....

Sevai (Idiyappam) - South Indian Vermicelli Rice noodles
Ingredients:
14 ounces rice noodles (1 lbs or 1/2 kg - 500grms)
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons sesame oil
1 teaspoon black mustard seed
1 handful of curry leaves
2 dried red chilli peppers, chopped
3 tablespoons brown lentils (toor dahl or soaked
urid dahl)
4 tablespoons roasted peanuts or cashews
3/4 cup shredded or flaked coconut
1/4 cup water
fresh cilantro (coriander - dhanya pata), for
garnish
DIRECTIONS:
Place noodles in a medium size pot and add water, just to cover. Add
salt and bring to a boil. After boiling 1 to 2 minutes, transfer noodles
to a colander and let cold water run through it for about 3 seconds. Drain
and set aside.
Heat the sesame oil in a wok; when warm add mustard seed, chilli peppers and lentils. Stir-fry until lentils start getting light brown, then add peanuts and stir-fry for 10 seconds, add the curry leaves. Stir in coconut and fry it until light brown; add cooked noodles and 1/4 cup water. Keep stirring all together over heat until well mixed, 10 to 20 seconds. Garnish with cilantro and serve.
There, your noodles are ready. Now there are different things you do with them:
Make the following sevais:
Lime sevai: Heat some
veg. oil, add some mustard seeds,
urad dal, channa dal, and crushed red chillies--a couple, asafoetida,
and turmeric powder. When these crackle, add crushed curry leaves, and
some chopped green chillies. Add some salt, and fry a bit. Remove from
stove, and cool a bit, and add a lot of lime juice. Using your clean hands,
mix it with the sevai.
Coconut sevai: Follow the same recipe as for lime, only hold the turmeric, and the lime juice. Instead, in the end, add a cup of freshly grated juicy coconut to the mixture, heat a bit on stove (30 sec), and cool. Mix with sevai.
Black pepper and cummin sevai: Heat some peanut or sesame oil, add mustard seeds, lots of curry leaves minced, and lots of crushed black pepper and jeera (cummin seeds)-- crush them coarsely. Add salt, and mix with sevai.
Sesame sevai: On a dry pan, heat roast some red chillies, asafoetida, urad dal, and lots of sesame seeds. When roasted till fragrant, (golden red), cool it a bit, and grind in the spice grinder till almost smooth. Mix with sevai. Add some ghee in the end. (In fact, add a teaspoon of ghee to all the above sevais in the end). In this sevai, you might substitute sliced garlic pieces for asafoetida. Make sure they get roasted to a light golden red, and are brittle in the end.
Ulundu sevai: This is a little more time consuming to make, but one of the tastiest in my opinion. Soak some urad dal (Indian store) say a cup or so in room temp water. After an hour and a half or two, Drain it almost completely, and grind it with red chillies, asafoetida, and curry leaves. Add salt. Grind in a blender till well blended but not too smooth. The particles can be as coarse as olden times granulated sugar.
Steam this in a cloth lined steamer till dry and done. Heat a couple of tablespoons of peanut or sesame (or vegetable which is not as flavorful) oil. Add black mustard seeds, and when they crackle, add the steamed and crumbled urad dal paste, and fry till roasted and crisp (Some don't let it roast too long and do not add as much oil). Remove from heat, and mix with sevai.
Vermicelli Pulihora (another version of the above sevai)
Ingredients:
200 gms vermicelli
40 gms tamarind, soaked in hot water
50 ml oil
1 bunch curry leaves
6 green chilies, chopped
50 gms groundnuts
1 tsp jeera (cumin seeds)
1 tsp mustard
2 tsp chana dal
2 tsp urad dal
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
2 red chilies
Salt to taste
A pinch of asafoetida
Method:
Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. When they
splutter, add red chilies, urad dal, chana dal, curry leaves and fry for
a minute.
Also add groundnuts, green chilies, turmeric and asafoetida. Fry for
a minute and add tamarind pulp and little water.
When the water is boiling, add vermicelli and salt; mix well and allow
to cook until the vermicelli is tender.
Remove and serve hot.
Serves: 2 - 4
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Kathal Curry - Curried green jackfruit.
Serves : Six
Time required : 25 minutes
Ingredients
1 kg green jackfruit (kathal)
4 tbsp (60 ml) oil
4 medium-sized (250 g) potatoes, peeled and cut
into 3 cm cubes
1/2 tsp (2.5 g) sugar
salt to taste
1 tsp (5 g) garam masala powder
Grind together with a little water:
3 dry red chillies
1 tbsp (15 g) cummin seeds
1 tbsp (6 g) coriander seeds
1/2 tsp (2 g) turmeric powder
For the tempering:
1 tbsp (15 g) ghee
2-3 bay leaves (tej patta)
1/4 tsp (1 g) cummin seeds
Method
Peel the outer skin of jackfruit. Remove seeds, if any. Discard the
fibrous portion, retaining only the ‘meaty’ portion. There is a layer of
skin between the seed and the fruit. Ensure that this is also removed and
discarded. Cut jackfruit into bite-sized pieces. Place in a pan with water
and boil for about 15 minutes. Remove from heat. Drain well.
Heat oil in a kadai (wok) or deep frying pan. Fry potatoes until lightly browned. Remove from pan, drain and set aside.
Add jackfruit and saute for a few minutes. Remove from pan, drain and set aside. Add ground paste, sugar and salt to pan. Stir well and fry for several minutes, sprinkling water when necessary. Stir in 1 1/2 cups water and add jackfruit and potatoes. Simmer gently until both are cooked and there is gravy in the pan.
Heat ghee for tempering in a separate pan or kadai. Add bay leaves and cummin. Stir-fry until they stop spluttering. Pour on to the vegetables and sprinkle in the garam masala powder. Stir well and cook for a minute longer. Serve hot with rice or chapati.
Put into an oven preheated to 200oC (400oF) and bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Serve with a salad.

Points of View
I don't know if Shel was actually a vegetarian or not, but he did do
some pro-veg works like the following:
Thanksgiving dinner's sad and thankless,
Christmas dinner's dark and blue,
When you stop and try to see it
From the turkey's point of view.
Sunday dinner isn't funny
Easter feasts are just bad luck,
When you see it from the viewpoint
Of the chicken or the duck.
Oh, how I once loved tuna salad,
Pork and lobsters, lamb chops,
too,
Till I stopped and looked at dinner
From the dinner's point of view.

About a century or two ago, the Pope decided that all the Chinese had to leave Italy. Naturally there was a big uproar from the Chinese community. So the Pope made a deal. He would have a religious debate with a member of the Chinese community. If the Chinese win, they could stay. If the Pope wins, the Chinese would leave.
The Chinese realized that they had no other choice. So they picked a middle-aged man named Ah Peh to represent them. Ah Peh asked for one condition to be added to the debate. "To make it more interesting", he said, "neither side would be allowed to talk". The Pope agreed.
The day of the great debate came. Ah Peh and the Pope sat opposite each other for a full minute. Then the Pope raised his hand and showed three fingers. Ah Peh looked back at him and raised one finger. The Pope waved his fingers in a circle around his head. Ah Peh pointed to the ground at where he sat. The Pope pulled out a loaf and a glass of wine. Ah Peh pull out an apple.
The Pope stood up and said: "I give up. This man is too good.
The Chinese can stay."
An hour later, the cardinals were all around the Pope asking him what happened. The Pope said, "First I held up three fingers to represent the holy trinity. He responded by holding up one finger to remind me that there was still one God common to both our religions."
"Then I waved my finger around me to show him that God was all around us." He responded by pointing to the ground and showing that God was also right here with us."
"I pulled out the wine and loaf to show that God absolves all sin. He showed me an apple to remind us of the original sin. He had an answer for everything. What could I do?"
Meanwhile, the Chinese community had crowded around Ah Peh.
"What happened?" they asked.
"Well," said Ah Peh, "First he indicated to me that all Chinese had 3 days to get out of here. I replied, " Get off and not one of us is leaving."
"Then he pointed that this whole city would be cleared of Chinese. I showed him that we are staying right here."
"Yes, and then???" asked the crowd.
"I don't know", said Ah Peh, "he took out his lunch and I took out mine!!!"
Here is a Prabhupada pastime that came to mind yesterday:
http://www.urbanmissionary.info/category/humor/
During a press conference attended by several reporters Srila Prabhupada was being questioned by a young female reporter who had asked a string of questions in a very challenging manner. After a number of questions she asked: “Why do you shave your heads?” Srila Prabhupada, having patiently answered her queries up to this point now responded, without batting an eyelid: “Why do you show your legs?” in reference to her short skirt.
The reporter was caught completely off guard and was speechless. The question hung in the air for a moment, and then His Divine Grace continued: “We think it is better to have warm legs and a cool head,” with a big smile. Everyone in the room, including the young lady reporter laughed at Srila Prabhupada’s incredibly quick and disarming humour, completely free from malice.
I meditate on the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada with the sincere desire that my words might also become free from malice and beneficial and pleasing to all who hear them.
A somewhat advanced society has figured how to package basic knowledge
in pill form. A student, needing some learning, goes to the pharmacy
and asks what kind of knowledge pills are available.
The pharmacist says "Here's a pill for English literature." The student takes the pill and swallows it and has new knowledge about English literature!
"What else do you have?" asks the student.
"Well, I have pills for art history, biology, and world history," replies the pharmacist.
The student asks for these, and swallows them and has new knowledge about those subjects.
Then the student asks, "Do you have a pill for modern science?"
The pharmacist says "Wait just a moment", and goes back into the storeroom and brings back a whopper of a pill and plunks it on the counter.
"I have to take that huge pill for modern science?" inquires the student.
The pharmacist replied "Well, you know ... some of those speculative scientific theories always was a little hard to swallow."
The aspiring psychiatrists were attending their first class on emotional
extremes.
"Just to establish some parameters," said the professor to the
student from California, "What is the opposite of joy?"
"Sadness," said the student.
And the opposite of depression?" he asked of the young lady from Massachusetts.
"Elation," said she.
"And you sir," he said to the young man from Texas, "how about the opposite of woe?"
The Texan replied, "Sir, I believe that would be giddy-up."
A distinguished looking young lady is on a flight returning from London. She finds herself seated next to a priest asks, "Excuse me father, may I ask a favour of you?"
"Well of course Miss, what can I do for you?" he replies.
"Here's the dilemma, I purchased for myself, a superbly sophisticated electronic hair remover. I paid a lot of money for it. I really went well over the limits set forth by Customs, and I fear they will confiscate it from me. Could you perhaps secret it through Customs for me under your robes?"
"I certainly could my dear, only I must warn you I really am not ever able to lie..."
"You have such an honest face father, surely they will never ask any questions of you," and with that she hands him the hair remover.
After landing they proceed through Customs and it becomes the father's turn in line.
"Father, do you have anything to declare?" asks the Custom's officer.
"From the top of my head to my waist I have nothing to declare my son."
Finding this answer a little strange the custom's officer proceeds to ask,
"And from the waist to the floor, what do you have to declare?" the father replies, "I have a marvelous little instrument destined to be used on a woman, but which has never yet been used..."
Roaring with laughter, the Custom's officer says, "Go right through
father. Next!"
The Gurukul teacher told the kids to draw a grassy meadow and a cow
eating the grass.
By the end of the hour, all the kids had some more or less artistic rendering of that topic, except for Janaki.
Janaki had a blank page.
So the teacher asked, "Where is your grass?"
Janaki answered: "The cow ate it all."
Then the teacher asked: "Where is the cow?"
Janaki answered: "When there was no grass left, the cow walked away
out of the picture."
That they may have a little peace,
even the best dogs are compelled to snarl occasionally.

A blonde is on board a small two seater plane when suddenly the pilot
dies.
Not knowing how to fly a plane she grabs the radio. "Mayday, Mayday!
My pilot just died!" she screams.
Ground control receives her call for help and answers back:
"Don't worry, madam. I'll talk you down, just do as I say. First I
need you to give me your height and position"
"I'm 5"2' and sitting in the front"
Did you ever wonder?
He sits down next to a guy that jerks his head to the left every few seconds, over and over. This really starts to get on Rich's nerves so he asks him, "What the heck is wrong with you?"
The reply is, "l got this in the war."
Rich finds this pretty annoying so he switches seats.
The next guy he sits by has uncontrollable spastic twitches in his right leg, causing him to kick the seat in front of him, and even kicks Rich a few times. So Rich asks him, "What the heck is wrong with you?"
Again the answer is, "l got this in the war."
Rich moves.
The next guy poor Rich sits by begins erratically flailing his left hand.
Rich says, "Let me guess, you got that in the war."
The guy replies, "No, l got it out of my nose, and I can't get it off of my hand."

Manik Kaura and her family hadn’t been seen in the village for weeks, so a Red Cross rescue team struggled to his remote croft at the head of the glen. It was completely buried - only the chimney was showing.
"Manik Kaura," they shouted down the chimney. "Are you there?"
"Wha’s that?" came the answer.
"It’s the Red Cross," they called.
"Go away," shouted Manik Kaura. "I bought a flag last year!"
The ways of this material world - strange but true
A housewife called up a pet store and said, "Send me thirty-thousand cockroaches at once."
"What in the world do you want with thirty-thousand cockroaches?" asked the astonished clerk.
"Well," replied the woman, "I am moving today and my lease says I must
leave the premises in exactly the same condition I found them."
A teacher caught a student in the hall during class time and said,
"Nina, tell me, whose class you're cutting this time?"
The young teen student said, "Like, uh, see, okay, like it's like, I really don't like, think like, that's really important, y'know, like because I'm, y'know, like I don't get anything out of it anyways."
The teacher smiled and said, "It's your English class, isn't it?"

.......more optical illusions and paradigm twists here:
A door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman goes to the first house in his new territory. He knocks, a real mean and tough looking lady opens the door, and before she has a chance to say anything, he runs inside and dumps cow patties all over the carpet. He says, "Lady, if this vacuum cleaner don't do wonders cleaning up that shit, I'll eat every chunk of it." She turns to him with a smirk and says, " You want ketchup on that ?" the Salesman says, " Why do you ask that ?" She says "We have just moved in and we haven't got the electricity turned on yet."
OLEAGINOUS, adj. Oily, smooth, sleek.
Disraeli once described the manner of Bishop Wilberforce as "unctuous,
oleaginous, saponaceous." And the good prelate was ever afterward known
as Soapy Sam. For every man there is something in the vocabulary that would
stick to him like a second skin. His enemies have only to find it.

My doctor said I was paranoid.
Well, he didn't actually say it, but I could tell he was thinking it.
A man enters a bar and orders a drink. The bar has a robot bartender. The robot serves him a perfectly prepared cocktail, and then asks him, "What's your IQ?"
The man replies "150" and the robot proceeds to make conversation about global warming factors, quantum physics and spirituality, biomimicry, environmental interconnectedness, string theory, nano-technology, and sexual proclivities.
The customer is very impressed and thinks, "This is really cool." He decides to test the robot. He walks out of the bar, turns around, and comes back in for another drink. Again, the robot serves him the perfectly prepared drink and asks him, "What's your IQ?"
The man responds, "about a 100." Immediately the robot starts talking, but this time, about football, NASCAR, baseball, supermodels, favorite fast foods, guns, and women's breasts.
Really impressed, the man leaves the bar and decides to give the robot one more test. He heads out and returns; the robot serves him and asks, "What's your IQ?" The man replies, "Er, 50, I think."
And the robot says... real slowly... "So.............. ya gonna vote for Bush again?"
