Vege update:
Social scientists and law enforcement officials
have identified animal abuse as a symptom of emotional illness and a precursor
to violent crimes against human beings. To allow individuals guilty of
perpetrating such cruel acts to go unpunished or not sufficiently punished
would be to sanction these horrific crimes and would permit them to go
on to possibly commit violent crimes against humans.

Roasted Maple Dijon Brussel Sprouts Recipe
The sweetness of the maple syrup counter balances the strength of the mustard and the tartness of the vinegar.
Ingredients
2 servings of brussel sprouts
1 1/2 tsp dijon mustard
1 tbs maple syrup
1 tbs aged balsamic vinegar
1 tbs olive oil
salt / pepper
Directions
Set oven to 400.
Trim sprouts and cut the larger ones in half.
Stir together the mustard, syrup, vinegar, oil salt and pepper in a
bowl. Toss sprouts with glaze and coat well. Spray or oil baking sheet
and roast for 20 minutes, or until done, tossing once.
Homemade Dijonnaise Recipe
Ingredients
1/2 stick salted butter
3 tablespoons flour
1-1/2 cups half and half warmed
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
2 tablespoons non-grainy Dijon mustard
Directions
Melt butter in a small saucepan over low heat.
Add flour and mix with a wire whisk until foamy, approximately 3 minutes.
Add half and half and mustard then continue to stir for 5 minutes until
thickened and hot.
Gently stir in white pepper.
Vegetarian Sausage Rolls!
Here is the awesome recipe for vegetarian sausage rolls - they go great with tomato sauce! We had them at a program a few weeks ago:
Ingredients
1 small tub cottage cheese
1 cup rolled oats
1 table spoon mixed herbs
3 table spoons soy sauce
egg replacer (milk, lemon juice & baking
soda mix) (optional)
breadcrumbs
new-ways vegetarian or home-brand puff pastry
Making the filling
Preheat oven to 180 C
Combine first 4 ingredients in a bowl.
In a separate cup make egg replacer as follows: to ¼ cup of
milk add enough lemon juice (maybe ½ a lemon) to semi-curdle the
milk. Then add about ½ tsp of baking soda to make it froth slightly.
Add egg-replacer to the other ingredients
Lastly add bread crumbs. Mix enough breadcrumbs in till you can make
a small “sausage in your hands without the mixture
being too sticky on your hands.
Assembly
Using New-ways vegetarian or home-brand puff pastry, cut one sheet
in half.
Make a roll of mixture and place it in the middle of the pastry.
Wet one edge of pastry and roll the pastry around the mixture. Make
sure the edge is sealed nicely.
Continue until all mixture is used up.
Brush rolls with milk & bake on greased tray for about 15-20mins
until golden on top and bottom.
Offer to Krishna! And enjoy.
NB: The egg replacer isn't essential. I think it makes them a bit lighter though.

Menthi Laddus (Methipak)
http://www.harekrsna.com/practice/prasadam/recipes/sweets1a.htm
Ingredients:
1-1/4 cup Wheat flour
1-1/4 cup Almonds crushed
1-1/4 cup Fenugreek seeds ground
1-1/4 cup Dehydrated coconut grated
4 tablespoons Coriander seeds, crushed

crushed coarsely
3 teaspoons Ginger powder
1 teaspoon Cardamom powder
2-1/2 cups soft jaggery, grated or crushed fine
Ghee for frying
Heat ghee in a large heavy frying pan. Add flour, stir fry on low flame for several minutes, then add gond, which is an edible gum. Stir continuously, adding about a tbsp of ghee more. When all the gum has popped, take off fire. Add almonds, fenugreek powder, coconut, coriander, ginger powder, and cardamom. Mix all ingredients well into flour mixture. Add more ghee only if mixture is very dry. In a separate pan, heat another cup or so of ghee, add jaggery, melt while stirring continuously. Allow to bubble a bit, but do not overcook or the ladoos will become hard. Mix this into the rest of the mixture. With a wide strong spatula, turn mixture over and over. When completely blended, mould into walnut size ladoos. Cool to room temperature in a wide plate. Store in airtight container until ready to offer.

Making Food Sacred - Offering
our food to Krishna:
....excerpt from lecture by HDG Srila A.C.
Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada - Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.3.1-3 -- San Francisco,
March 28, 1968
The Vedic literature says like this, that God has no leg, no hand. Therefore the impersonalists take advantage of it. "Oh, here it is stated God has no legs, no hands." But the next line is, javana grhita: "He can accept everything which you offer Him in devotion."
Now how He can accept? If He has no hand, how He can accept things from us? That means He hasn't got a hand like us. His hand is different. Therefore even though He is situated in the spiritual world, which is far, far away from us, still, He says in the Bhagavad-gita, it is said,
patram puspam phalam toyam
yo me bhaktya prayacchati
tad aham bhakty-upahrtam
asnami prayatatmanah
Krsna says that "A little flower or little water or a little leaf, whatever My devotee offers Me in love and devotion, I accept it." And tad aham bhakty-upahrtam. "And because he has brought it with great devotion, therefore I eat." Tad aham bhakty-upahrtam asnami. Asnami means "I eat." Now you can say, "All right, I'll offer these fruits and flower to God, but it is the same. It is remaining. How He is eating?" But His eating is not like my eating, because He hasn't got a body like this. This body is material. If you bring me a plate of fruits, this body immediately swallows it. But He has got spiritual body. He eats... Simply as soon as He knows that you have offered it in devotion, He eats immediately.
Go here to follow the simple system for offering
foodstuffs to the Lord

Points of View
I don't know if Shel was actually a vegetarian or not, but he did do
some pro-veg works like the following:
Thanksgiving dinner's sad and thankless,
Christmas dinner's dark and blue,
When you stop and try to see it
From the turkey's point of view.
Sunday dinner isn't funny
Easter feasts are just bad luck,
When you see it from the viewpoint
Of the chicken or the duck.
Oh, how I once loved tuna salad,
Pork and lobsters, lamb chops,
too,
Till I stopped and looked at dinner
From the dinner's point of view.

Cruelty to Animals: Mechanized Madness
Watch the Video
Animals on today's factory farms have no legal protection from cruelty that would be illegal if it were inflicted on dogs or cats: neglect, mutilation, genetic manipulation, and drug regimens that cause chronic pain and crippling, transport through all weather extremes, and gruesome and violent slaughter. Yet farmed animals are no less intelligent or capable of feeling pain than are the dogs and cats we cherish as companions.

Pepsi and Coca Cola Contains PORK (PIG) extracts - PROVEN!!
Shocking / Bad News :
Pepsi and Coca Cola contains extract
from Pork (Pig)
Most of the people avoid Pepsi
and Coca-Cola for various reasons:-
because of harmful chemical contents
such as excessive carbonates, etc.
Now there is yet another reason which is more dangerous. The scientific and medical research says that drinking Pepsi & Cola leads to cancer because the key element is taken from Pigs sausage.
The pig is the only animal that eats dirt, dung and urine, which makes lethal and deadly fabric polluted germs and microbes.
According to a report published in Jordanian magazine, the Head of Delhi University Science and Technology , Dr. Mangoshada scientifically proved that the key element in Pepsi and Cola contains extract from the intestines of Pig which causes cancer and other deadly diseases.
The Indian university conducted tests on the impact of drinking Pepsi and Coca Cola which proved that drinking them lead to more rapid heart rate and low pressure.
Also drinking 6 bottles of Pepsi
or Cola at a time causes instant death. It also contains chemicals such
as carbonic and phosphoric acids, citric acid which harms teeth and causes
bone fragility. Bones kept in the Cup of Pepsi melts during the week knowing
that the bones of the dead remain in the grave for thirty years.
Research itself confirmed that
the calcium dissolved in Pepsi and it weakens the bladder, kidneys, kills
the pancreatic, leads to diabetes and infectious diseases.
Pepsi or Coca-Cola lovers nothing to worry as it is not the only drinks available on this earth, as we have other healthy alternatives such as natural fruit juices, canned coconut water, flavoured milks, buttermilk etc.., all of them are conveniently available even in the small stores.

"The beef industry has contributed to more deaths than all the wars of this century, all natural disasters, and all automobile accidents combined. If beef is your idea of 'real food for real people', you'd better live real close to a good hospital."

“If anyone wants to save the
planet, all they have to do is just stop eating meat.
That’s the single most important
thing you could do. It’s staggering when you think about it.
Vegetarianism takes care of
so many things in one shot: ecology, famine, cruelty.”
--Sir Paul McCartney
